Weekend Trip to Turtleback Ridge

This was my second stay at Turtleback Ridge, and Keegan suggested a different spot—a little more private, scenic, and quiet as the first, and still an easy walk to the brewery. One might not think camping would lead to restful sleep the night before a bike race, but this site delivers. The hosts are incredibly helpful, gracious, and considerate. Oh, and they make some amazing beers that are worth the trip on their own. Even with the rainy weather, it was a peaceful, no-fuss place to settle in. I’ll definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

This property is a magical sanctuary — like stepping out of time into another dimension. We stayed in the cottage, nestled right by the creek, and it was peaceful and truly restorative. David was incredibly attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The cottage itself was a work of art, thoughtfully equipped with everything for a comfortable stay. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer! We’re already looking forward to our next visit. If you’re looking to unplug and reconnect with what truly matters, this is your place!

3 nights at Backwoods Hideaway

Absolutely loved my stay at the Backwoods Hideaway! The perfect little spot to getaway! I loved listening to all the sounds of nature, rocking away on the porch encapsulated in a good book, reading by candlelight and listening to the whipporwills and sounds of the creek flowing falling to sleep! Couldn't asked for a better escape to relax and recharge! Thank you Aaron and family for opening up your lovely cabin for all to enjoy!

Weekend Trip to Turtleback Ridge

What’s not to love about camping just a short walk from an incredible brewery? Turtleback Ridge Farm is a fantastic host for the Kentucky Open Road Race Series, and I had the privilege of camping there the night before a race. Although the weather was dreary and the rain relentless, the property still offered a peaceful, spacious spot to pitch a tent and rest up undisturbed. I didn’t get to fully appreciate the farm’s beauty this time, but I’m already looking forward to a return visit. Highly recommend to anyone in search of a laid-back, convenient campsite in the area!

It's absolutely gorgeous out there - perfectly peaceful and enough to do at camp to keep busy. David was an amazing host - always had fresh coffee for us and a morning chat. Gave lots of great local suggestions! The yurt is very comfortable - it rained every single night and we stayed nice and dry. Despite the wet weather, it's been one of the best trips I've been on in quite awhile. The vibe can't be beat ♡

2 nights at Treehouses, Off the Grid!

Staying in a tree house has always been a dream of mine, and this one was fabulous. The house was great as was the area surrounding: fire pit, hammock and swing. We spent many hours on the trails and especially enjoyed Jacob's Ladder trail. There was peace of mind knowing the whole property was fenced in. We felt very safe and our dog loved walking the trails off leash with us. Bad weather rolled in our last night, and Shelly was very communicative, making sure we were aware of the watches and warnings, and giving options for where to head if we felt we were in danger.

Such a cool place. So nice to be off-grid to just be in nature. I enjoyed putting my phone down and just hanging out by the creek. Felt like a good brain reset, and cabin was so cozy.

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall

We loved camping at the Longhall. David was an excellent host. Our guild had a total of about 14 ppl visiting. Everything was super comfy. Stayed warm with the heaters in under 32 degree weather, had electric with the generator. Kitchen area was well stocked. It was all the little things that made the place amazing. Like finding easter eggs until the moment we left. We played DnD, shot archery and practiced fencing. It was a great time. We definitely intend on coming back.

This camp location is situated roughly 200 yards from the parking area, down in the holler where you will enjoy the peaceful sounds of night, including the many bull frogs which live in our pond, and other sounds of wildlife.

***Closed for the Season*** Come visit southern Ohio and camp out under that stars. Pitch your tent on one of five camping platforms and enjoy the wooded surroundings. There are 15 acres of woods, trails and maintained areas, including a shared pavilion and outdoor shower. General Information The accommodations are primitive, but adequate and spaced apart to provide individual privacy. Each platform is 9'x11' and will allow for most 2 to 4 person, self supporting tents to be pitched with adequate space. Larger tents or tents that need to be staked out will probably not fit or work on the platforms. The land supports insets of all sorts; fireflies, dragonflies and butterflies. It also has horseflies and ticks. The land also supports some endangered and threatened species of plants - so if you see something you haven't seen before, take a picture and leave the plant in the soil. If it rains hard, it will get muddy. Be prepared for that with extra changes of clothes. There is an outdoor rinse shower (in the final phases of construction) to wash off if you get TOO muddy. There is a shared space pavilion that can be used for discussions and getting out of the rain. It is not to be used for a cooking kitchen or to have chimineas under. Be respectful of others who may be using this space. All locations are WALK IN. You will need to carry your tent and provisions to the location. There are no roads that go directly to the camping platforms. Do not try to drive on the land. Trust our experience with it... you will get stuck. Pulling you out will be costly and will damage the land (and most likely your vehicle as well). Camping Locations Platform 1 and Platform 2 are close together and work well for a slightly larger group. Platform 3 is closest to the top of the campground and Platform 4 is furthest inside the campground. Platform 5 is closest to a small pond that is currently under restoration. It is also situated for the best firefly viewing in June and early July. Hammocks are permitted to be hung from trees, provided they have non-scarring strapping systems. Hammocks cannot be hung from pavilion or from camping platforms. Surrounding Areas The land is located in rural Ross County. It is mostly quiet. I have neighbors, they have animals, so you are likely to hear dogs barking, roosters crowing, donkeys braying and the occasional gunshot. These usually happen in the morning and in the evening. These are normal for this area. Bainbridge is right down the hill and has multiple gas stations, a hardware store and a small grocery store for most of your needs. Bainbridge is the home of the "Soldiers of the Downhill" International Downhill Skateboarding event and the "Fall Festival of Leaves". It also has the first Dental School in the United States and the Paxton Theater. Ideally located for several state parks, including: Pike Lake Rocky Fork Paint Creek Located within close proximity to several points of interest: 10 minutes to the Seip Earthworks 15 minutes of the Arc of Appalachia / Highland Nature Sanctuary 20 minutes to Fort Hill Earthworks and Nature Preserve 25 minutes to Hopewell Culture National Heritage Location 40 minutes to Serpent Mound State Memorial Working on finalizing an outdoor shower, but may not be up and running for the 2024 camping season.

Our remote 375 acres part farm and part natural woodland nestled up to Daniel Boone Forest is ideal for hikers and nature lovers. There are several hiking trails onsite and plenty of woods to explore. ATVs or side by sides are welcome to be used on the main gravel roads and some designated areas of our property. There is plenty of wildlife around but no hunting is allowed. Our designated tent sites do have firepits and picnic tables. Our trek in sites do not have those options. Pets are welcome for $10 per pet/per booking and they do need to be leashed/under control at all times. This is an extra so please be sure to add that if you plan to bring your pet. Please pick up after them. We are a short driving distance from West Liberty, Cave Run Lake, Grayson Lake, Carter Caves, Morehead, Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge. We are approximately 20 minutes from the nearest store so you'll want to come prepared. We are located in West Liberty (Morgan County). There is a centrally located bathhouse with toilet, shower and sink and a hose for potable water. We have firewood for sale for $15 per bundle and is an extra option when booking(use what you need during your stay and it is located at the tent sites), you can bring your own and you are welcome to gather from the surrounding area but please do not cut down any living trees/limbs.

Trails through the woods are being worked on, and facilities expanded as the seasons pass. Hiking, kayaking, biking, birding, fishing, hunting, swimming, and more are available at several state parks and historical sites like within 10-30 minutes of the farm. Amish country is likewise near at hand with several bakeries, markets, furniture shops, and greenhouses. Our primitive sites are spaced for privacy, with a gravel parking area near the cottage and additional field parking is available near the road on the opposite site of the main house. While most sites are walk-in only, the upper field sites may be able to be parked near and the Lower Meadow, Boneyard, and Oak Grove may be able to be driven to, as weather and site conditions permit.

The Viking Longhall

The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Close to downtown restaurants and shopping, but feels like you are out in the wilderness. You must bring your own camp toilet, this is very primitive. It is not uncommon to see natural wildlife such as deer, squirrel, and raccoon. Fishing is permitted (largest one caught was 6”). Responsible fire welcome, firewood can be purchased on site. Several hiking trails on site.

My place is secluded and peaceful. Its a wooded country setting and is a primitive site. There are no facilities or utilities, there is an outhouse/self composting (follow up your business with dropping leaves in after). It may not be suitable for children as there are active brush/wood burn piles on the land. See all photos and ask questions, please. I want it to be enjoyable for all who book. It’s also noteworthy that there are dogs in the area that roam free, it’s way out in the country, there are no leash laws. I’ve never had any issues with unfriendly dogs, but always be aware. It’s at a dead end road, no thru traffic. You can stay and enjoy some amazing stargazing, (there is minimal lighting and a very dark, clear view of the night sky) and lots of peace and quiet or explore the Daniel Boone National Forest surrounding the property or travel a short distance and see so many nearby amazing areas…Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge State Park, NADA Tunnel, Sky Bridge, Cave Run Lake, Twin Knobs and Zilpo Recreation Areas, Carter Caves State Park, Grayson Lake, Rudy’s Ranch.
