There are signs at both entrances to the pull-through site; one is a blue sign with white lettering in a tree on the left side of the road (going north) and one is a brown sign with "Hartwoods" with reflectors on a tree (also on left side of the road going north). There is also a sign at the actual site. If you encounter a GATE, you have gone too far and must turn around.

There is a cement block fire pit with grill available for outdoor cooking and enjoyment. Please be responsible and use proper fire extinguishing techniques, utilizing the provided water hose. The meadow we occupy was once the farmers property that I grew up next to at my parents farm house.
When he wanted to sell his property he offered it to us for purchase at a fair price if we would not develop more than we needed to live here.
We maintained the meadow adjacent to our property and have kept it as an agricultural site.
We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same.
It is expensive to live in Newtown but we love our property.
We want to teach others to grow food from their land while helping to support us keeping our adjacent property agricultural and undeveloped.

Various seasons will offer you an opportunity to pick your own breakfast in our maturing establishment. You can enjoy exploring, and examining our 7 year permacultuire food forest with chestnut seedlings already tall enough to climb , 10-foot hazels bearing buckets of nuts and a different selection of raspberries, blackberries, gooseberry, currents, golden berries, service berries and Mulberries. This site is much more private than Mickelberry Forest Garden Site and the beautiful mountain view is only a small step away. Devil’s Hopyard got its name from a couple of different stories, although it does sounds like a great name for a delicious india pale ale. The Hopyard part is in fact believed to have origins tracing back to a farmer who grew hops for brewing near Chapman Falls, the main attraction of this area. The Devil part likely comes from early settlers who tried to explain away the unique potholes in the stone around the waterfall with the supernatural.These potholes are actually perfectly explainable by science, go figure. As stones moved down stream, some would occasionally get trapped in an eddy, causing them to swirl around and erode the rock. The devil story is much more interesting though, which claims that the devil accidentally got his tail wet one day and was so angry, he burned holes in the stones with his hooves. Guess you'll have to go see it for yourself and make up your own mind on what truly happened. While you're there, make sure to check out the awesome hiking, fishing and mountain biking in the area. Devil's Hopyard State Park is just as full of outdoor activities as it is with history.

We live in a rural area and cannot guarantee that you won’t hear similar or other noise like ATVs, machinery from properties nearby, roosters, peacocks, and wildlife - this is country life!

We’ve stayed here twice so far this year. Chris and Tiffany’s property is super close to Mystic restaurant and shops, and the Cross Sound Ferry. The camping spot is private, quiet and peaceful. It is next to the barn with the animals so you occasionally hear 🐑 🐐 🐓 but that’s to be expected on a farm. We are able to plug in and refill our water tank if needed. We will definitely be back!

We camped at Blackburn Farm for three nights. Water and electric hookup. It was excellent. A secluded spot but very close to Mystic Seaport, USS Nautilus Museum, and other sites. Chris was an excellent host and offered places to eat and things to see. He even provided a extra length of hose after I realized I didn't have a long enough to reach the water spicket. Can't recommend this spot enough. We will certainly recommend this to other friends and family. The only thing I would remind RVers about is the water hookup is approximately 40 feet away and the electric hookup is 15 amp, so not a enough to run your AC. However, we ran our fan and the site is nice and shady throughout most of the day, keeping the camper nice and cool.

Loved this site! A little tricky to navigate to, but quite fun that’s it’s hidden away in the woods with not a traffic sound to be heard.
The animals are so cute (fainting goats Marshmallow & Graham Cracker were a huge hit with the toddler), electric hookup is easy and potable water very nearby, and the hosts were so lovely, welcoming us and communicating promptly to make sure we were settled in alright. We got their recs for activities and food in the area, as well- would love to return to Mystic, and when we do, we’ll be staying here again!

The spot was perfect. Electric and water set up was spot on. Super close to Mystic, few town roads being you right there, which was what we were looking for. Chris was super responsive and the whole experience was lovely.

Probably better for smaller campers because of the path up to the campsite. But once there, a secluded spot. The owner is very friendly and helpful and communicates well.

17 ft pop-up camper
Beautiful area. Loved the miles of excellent trails right from the campsite. The farm animals were fun to share space with. Truly on the farm experience.
