The Hallow sits on seven acres in the hill towns of western Massachusetts, tucked away off Route 23 in Russell. The old post road runs through here — originally a Pocumtuc footpath, then the first mail route in the country. The land has been welcoming people for a long time, and we love to continue that tradition. Potash Brook flows through the property and connects to the Westfield River. Follow it to discover swimming holes, peaceful dip spots, and The Cauldron — a waterfall with a cliff jump and a natural rock slide. Wander through old-growth forest, mossy stone, wildflowers, ghost pipe, and other natural treasures. We currently offer one thoughtfully designed campsite, with just a few more to come, each with its own unique character and secluded nook along the brook. Always intimate and quietly communal — never a campground. Gather around the shared fire pit after dark. This is a place to slow down, move at the pace of the water, sleep beneath truly dark skies, and wake to sun-drenched moss and the gentle sound of the flowing brook. ~ Please note that The Hallow is a private residence. We are a family of four in the main house and a couple resides in the smaller house on the property. Guests are welcome to enjoy the full land, brook, and trail to the waterfall — we simply ask that you be mindful of our home, keep noise down after 10pm, and treat the land with care. This booking is for personal camping use only. Commercial photography, professional shoots, and content creation sessions are not permitted under a camping reservation. Soft Fern sits beside the flowing brook, on a stretch of earth that gives gently under your feet. Bright moss covers the stone, ferns unfurl along the bank, and little pools collect in the rock. A tiny path leads down to a creek-side beach, just enough room to sit at the water's edge. You'll wake up to the sound of babbling water and bird song. The shared fire pit is a moment's walk from the site. Solar lights provide a soft glow. The Cauldron waterfall — cliff jump + natural rock slide — is accessible by following the trail. A sculptural looking piece of a tree left in the center - to place your things. Soft Fern is an intimate site best suited for a solo traveler or couple with a small 1-2 person tent. An adjacent spot can accommodate one additional small tent for friends or family traveling together. This is currently the only campsite on the land, so you'll enjoy the brook to yourselves.

The Field

The property was very well maintained and the site was delightful. There was a nice spot for a tent by the stream but I was in and Roof top tent and had unlimited options for set up. The fire pit was nicely tucked away and a hammock hust past that was a great place to relax with a coffee and the sound of the small falls. The host was very kind and welcoming and attentive to detail. Highly recommend
