Little Scraggy Camp

The ranch was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. This totally off-grid ranch is surrounded on all sides by Pike National forest. Offering several glamping sites, as well as several sites for self-contained RV’s and tents, we are an ideal basecamp for the trail enthusiast.
From the nearby Little Scraggy Trailhead, there is biking, hiking, or horseback riding on the extensive trails of the Buffalo Creek area SW of Denver, including segment #3 of the renown Colorado Trail. Our Camp rests at the base of its namesake, Little Scraggy Peak, with direct access to these trails via the 9.5-mile Little Scraggy Trail. The ranch itself has several miles of trails to explore within the ranch’s fence lines that are restricted to hiking or horseback riding.
If fishing is your thing, there are the gold-medal waters of the South Platte River canyon below Cheesman Dam, the lake at Pine Valley Open Space Park or the waters of the North Fork of the S. Platte, (also good for kayaking). You might prefer rock climbing Little Scraggy Peak (sometimes referenced as “Skinner Mtn.” by climbers). The sides can be easily free climbed, or technical climb the face. There are additional climbing opportunities on nearby Chair Rocks and Cathedral Spires.
Potable drinking water is available from an onsite 270-gallon water tank. Portable toilets are only a short walk away from sites.
Dogs are welcome at camp, but to keep camp pleasant for all guests, please clean up after your dog. Friendly dogs are welcome to enjoy camp off leash. If your pet has aggressive tendencies, we ask that you keep it leashed.
This is a working ranch where we raise and train horses and ponies. Our particular interest is in carriage driving, and we offer driving experiences upon request.
You can rent individual porta-panel corrals ($10/day/horse). Please provide your own water buckets and we ask that you clean up your horse’s manure and unused hay.
There is extremely limited cell service…for those with the right carrier, that stand in the right spot, with the correct arm in the air and a tin foil hat…do not expect to have ANY reception.

Rustic Creek Ranch

The plan was to use this property as summer grazing for his cattle. The cows were wintered at the other ranch about 10 miles away, which was homesteaded by my great grandfather.
Because my grandfather could survey, he made sure the property lines zigzaged up the valley so the small creek was in the middle to provide water for the animals. He chose well. It is a beautiful, quiet place with elk, deer and wild turkeys. There are tons of wild flowers in the summer.
Columbines, the Colorado state flower, wild roses, paintbrushes and lots of wild chokecherries. With nice views of nearby mountains, open pastures, evergreen forests and aspen groves, it looks like it did 100 years ago. Plus, there are a couple of ponds for your dogs to cool off in. Since the first cattle, the ranch has also been home to goats, chickens, horses, and now alpacas and llamas. And of course the Great Pyrenees ranch dogs.
I had a house built a few years ago and live on the property full time. The ranch is surrounded by Pike National Forest with the Colorado Trail connecting the property in a number of places. Some of the highest ranked mountain bike trails are nearby. There are lots of places on and off the property to hike, mountain bike and ride your horse. On a clear night you can see thousands of stars and hear coyotes howl. For a drone video of the ranch check out: YouTube's Midsummer 2020 Flyover.

About 8 miles away is the small town of Bailey. It has just about everything you might need: small grocery store, gas, laundry, art gallery, a dollar store, hardware store, camping and sports equipment, brew pub, winery, a few restaurants, potable water station and more.

Many of our sites have fire rings for a nice campfire - feel free to bring your own wood or pick up some from our farm store.
Our cafe and store are open 7 days a week during the growing season. We offer lunch and dinner, a beautiful courtyard with WiFi, fun tree swings, seasonal u-pick fruits and vegetables, live music, Big B's juices and hard cider, local wines, snacks, gifts, and more!
The campsites are located in different parts of our orchard and are fairly rustic. We have sites for tent camping, small campervans, popup trailers, or larger RVs. There are no utility hookups, but we do have fresh water to refill your water tanks. Our orchard roads are dirt or gravel roads, and while they are perfectly good for any type of vehicle, ADA accessibility is somewhat limited.

We are blessed to have our two adult sons and (aforementioned) grandson living on this property with us. Our philosophy is to live in the moment as the present is the gift. Whether enjoying a sunrise or a sunset or anytime in between you’ll likely find us outside most days.
In that, we love all that nature has to offer including fresh fruits and veggies, animals, beauty and fragrances.

John and Sophia Bruce, early pioneers in the North Fork Valley, were first involved in cattle raising. The family later became successful fruit growers. Located along the West Elk Loop, a Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway, the large two-story residence features a steeply pitched hipped roof with prominent attic dormers.As a guest of Riverwalk you will have full access to the river during your stay. In addition, there is the Riverwalk Trail System that skirts the North Fork of the Gunnison River from the top of the property, by the Riverwalk Yurt, (available on this site) meandering downstream past the Riverwalk TIPI (available on the site) passing the Grove Yurt (available on this site) and terminating at the bottom of the property with the sandy Riverwalk Beach. There is a trial that zigs through the Cottonwood Grove and zags back along the gentle Monitor Ditch skirting a newly planted grove of young trees.For RV Campers we provide 2- 30amp,1-50 amp and 1- 110-amp electrical services and potable water. There is a dump station available. There is also access to our heated shower house with running water and bathroom amenities (<3 min. walk, may be shared with other guests). The property is perfectly geared to groups of friends gathering in a central location between the onset of the Rockies and the termination high desert to the west. Old Moon Acres Tipi Haven

The North Fork Valley of the Gunnison River, encompassing Crawford, Hotchkiss and Paonia, was an important fruit orchard area in the late 1800's and well into the early 1900's. The valley's climate is a banana belt, perfect for fruit with the cold air coming down from the mountains at night and the heat from the mesas warming up the valley during the day. Coal mines up the road in Bowie and Somerset paid better, so many of the orchards languished over the years. Since the closing of all the mines but one, today the NFV is home to the largest concentration of organic farms in the state of Colorado as well as becoming a state Creative District serving the multitudes of artist and creatives that call the valley home.
There are many pick-your-own peaches, cherries, apples, pears, nectarines and if we are lucky, apricots, in the valley. Delicious Orchards, 1 mile down Hwy 133, is an excellent place to pick your own, drink local hard cider and listen to live music on the weekend over a wonderful brunch. It is all about the farms, cattle, art, music, outdoor adventure, fun and relaxation here in the North Fork Valley.
The tipis are custom made by the Colorado Yurt Company in Montrose, Colorado where they have been making yurts, tents and tipis since 1976. The tipis are expertly designed and made with custom paintings invoking the animal spirits that inhabit our land. These are a Sioux design tipi as the Ute's mainly lived in wiki-ups until they were introduced to the tipi in the 1800's. The Ute's appropriated the tipi design from the Sioux or Plains Natives.
We have solar showers (solar bags of water heated by the sun during the day) available for free.
Showers are also available at the local laundromat in Hotchkiss.
Our goal is to awaken your sense of wonder by sleeping out in nature and waking up to the Colorado blue sky in clean, clear air at 5500 ft. You can visit the many high altitude wineries, fruit orchards, organic farms, farm-to-table restaurants, great music, interesting movies at the community owned Paradise Theater, art at the Creamery Arts Center in Hotchkiss, stand-up paddle boarding, WSSUP, at Crawford reservoir, mountain biking in Grand Mesa, hiking in the West Elks, rafting down the Gunnison river in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, fishing up canyon in the coolness of the forest or relaxing in one of many hot springs within an hour of us.
Colorado Detours is highly recommended by us to take you and yours on a hiking, farm, wine, or geology tour of the area.

Welcome to Alpine Trails RV Park in beautiful South Fork, Colorado. We are hoping you will make us your home away from home. We have 31 full hookup RV sites available, 11 of which are pull-through. And if you don’t have and RV or need some additional space, we can also accommodate tents.
In the center of our park we have a Rec Hall with a large area that is great for potluck dinners, playing cards or simply getting together for a jam session. And on those cool mountain nights, sitting around the fire pit is the place to be. We also have laundry facilities and showers on site.
Our park is located right behind the South Fork Community Center. That means we are the closest park to the Logger Days Festival which is the third weekend of July and provides plenty of fun for the entire family!
Alpine Trails RV Park includes amenities such as WiFi, water, sewer, showers, and electricity. This RV park is located at 111 Wharton Road in South Fork, CO. Golf, hiking, off-roading/atv, and horseback riding are some of the activities you can enjoy during your stay here.
In addition to 42 full hookup RV campsites, the park has a two-bedroom cabin with a full kitchen and a stone fireplace. Nearby activities include hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, pickleball, and four-wheeling. You can visit attractions such as The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, the Malt Shoppe, and the Wolf Creek Ski Area. Whether its for a night or two, we hope to see you soon!
