2 nights at Monarch Spur RV Park and Campground

Monarch Spur was a delight. It was safe, clean, and well organized,. It was conveniently equipped with picnic tables bathrooms, showers, trash cans, water, outdoor games, a dog park, a playground, and lots of communal sitting areas with fire pits. April was amazing and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. The river running beside the campground was our favorite part. We are already talking about camping there again soon. I definitely recommend this campground/RV park.

We stayed at T14 site, was a great spot close enough to the river. The staff is great and inviting. The restrooms and showers were always clean, no matter the time of day or night. This has become our new summer camping spot. So much to do around the area too!

Tent site 9 was a nice site right on the river. It was a little bit close to other sites, but still enough distance to enjoy it. Somewhat close to the highway but in June the river is loud and drowns out the road noise. Peaceful atmosphere. There’s cute little chipmunks running around near the bath house. Would definitely camp here again.

Amazing staff and beautiful well maintained property. We booked "T03 Tent Site - River/Pond" which was at the edge of the property with a direct access path to the trail along the river, near the trail to the pond, with a portable toilet nearby. The office, rv park area, and main bathrooms were only a short few minutes walking up the road. On the morning that we checked out, I accidentally locked my keys in my car while packing up. We can't thank the staff enough for letting us borrow a phone, a phone charger, and use the wifi to find a locksmith that could come help us out—we came back into the office on our way out to thank them again but they were not available, so thank you!

Weekend Trip to Cumberland High Alpine Campsites!

Absolutely beautiful spot and good level ground for camping. We have a small tear drop trailer, which made a little slow going up the pass from Tincup, but very doable with capable vehicle and trailer. Only knock would be these sites are at the very top of the pass, which leaves a lot of exposure to wind.

Weekend Trip to Riverside Vintage Campers

We had a great stay and would definitely recommend! Lovely location that felt more nestled in nature but easy drive to Gunnison. The camper setup was cute and nice enough for the price, the outhouse was clean and they provided all the essentials. Bring bug spray as it’s right on a river so the mosquitos did get pretty intense in the evening.

Great campsite to base out of. Traci and Chris were wonderful hosts and great to chat with. The bathrooms and showers were clean and well kept. The sites felt well spaced. The instructions to get there were clear. They noted having solid stakes due to some rocky ground conditions. Traci and Chris clearly put effort into providing in an accurate description. I couldn't ask for more for a car camping site. If I'm ever looking for a site in the area, I'd certainly come back here.

3 nights at Frenchman's Creek Ranch

This place is super cool. The hosts are awesome, really friendly and helpful. Places to run, ride and fish. Only downside is the spots are close to the highway, but we never heard traffic at night. All the hookups worked great and the sites were nice with gas firepit and Adirondack chairs.

The hosts are nice and welcoming, even other campers are very friendly. Tent site 11 was a little small but perfect for our little family since we have direct access to the river and super close to the playground. Bathrooms and porta potties are clean and well kept! Even though we got stuck with neighbors that were not courteous of the silent hours, we still enjoyed and will definitely be back! Next time we will try to stay at one of the more secluded sites😊

We really enjoyed our stay, this campsite is dialed in! The camp hosts were super attentive and helpful, and everything was clean and well maintained. We had a great time and definitely plan to come back. We stayed at tent site 17, which ended up being perfect for us. It’s right next to the playground and close to a bathroom, which made things really convenient. One tip: bring a canopy or shade cover it gets hot during the day and there’s not any natural shade. Also, if you have young kids (under 4) and are considering a site near the river, I’d recommend avoiding it. The river flows fast and didn’t feel safe for little ones who are curious and like to explore. Five stars! Very nice campsite. Excellent hosts. The property is very clean and tidy and the hosts were friendly and attentive. Many amenities, from free unlimited firewood, spotless bathrooms, filtered well water, and knowledgeable help and assistance with any questions about area activities. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Campfire!

We absolutely loved this campsite! The grounds were spacious, beautifully maintained, and perfect for both relaxation and adventure. Whether we were playing in the river, casting a line to fish, or diving into the many outdoor sports available, there was never a dull moment. One of the best parts, hot showers in the great outdoors—such a welcome luxury while camping! We’re already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended!

Great campsite! Large site with access to bathroom and shower. We really enjoyed our stay having such close access to the north side of black canyon as well as the reservoir. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

2 nights at Riverfront Mountain Ranch

Highly recommend this spot. The cabin was amazing and the bed was great. It was a very hot weekend but the cabin provided enough shade for us and our dog at pretty much all times of the day. Leslie and Tyler were amazing. The biscuits and gravy in the morning is some of the best I’ve ever had. We will definitely be going back and bringing more people along with us!

2 nights at Zenzen Gardens

Cindie is a kind and gracious host. She has an absolutely gorgeous property in the Northfork Valley with wide open space and Mountain views. Afternoons were in the high 90s during our stay and Cindie kindly offered to let us move our van under a big cottonwood tree on the private part of her property during the heat of the day. Instead, we opted to spend the afternoons in the shade of the veranda admiring her beautiful gardens or in the covered stage area that she uses for live music performances. Fortunately, evenings and mornings are gloriously cool in this area. It was fun to watch a resident deer family grazing right outside our van at dusk. We also enjoyed the wine and charcuterie plate she serves as part of her tasting room business. The wine from a local winery, Alfred Eames, was excellent! We bought a bottle of our favorite, Sangre Del Sol, to take home with us. The only thing that could be a concern would be the condition of the field if it were to rain. The Majestic View field has been plowed in the last year or two, so the soil is pretty loose. There are some morning glories growing in, but if it were to rain, it would become very muddy. Since the property is located in high desert, rain is not typical, but certainly can happen during monsoon season. My guess is, that if it did rain, Cindie would have guests park their rig in the compacted parking lot area.

This was a delightful experience for a multi-generational camping trip. The grandparents were comfortable and not setting up a tent made it so much easier for us to support everyone. We had a great time, and will definitely be back. My husband and I would love to snowshoe in during the winter without the kids and parents.

Muskitty Acres Farm is on the site of the oldest certified organic orchard in Colorado. Only three miles from the nearest town, Paonia, our farm borders on the north fork of the Gunnison river to the north, the ditch line to the south, and farms to the west, which means there are no main roads and no traffic at all, save from the railroad line that runs near the ditch. (Trains tend to go by about once every 24 hours). Expect the land to be bumpy and somewhat overgrown.

Weston Pass Hut

Weston Pass Hut is located on the first road that was built to bring people into Lake County and originally the road was a toll road. The property was a mining claim and there are still some remnants of mining activity that occurred over a century ago. A group of about six people and many volunteers spent six years building the hut. It is completely off of the grid. The beams used to construct the hut are from locally harvested trees and we milled them ourselves. Many other materials are recycled or obtained with a priority placed on sustainability.

The House where we live is the corner stone of the Bruce Property and is on the Colorado Register of Historic Houses.The residence was constructed between 1905 and 1912, using red bricks made on the site. The managers of this property have worked in yurt, ADU, and cabin construction and hospitality for many years and have brought together some of the best Scandinavian and modern design with a mining town aesthetic. The trip up can be challenging (only off-road, winch / locker equipped vehicles dare try the 759 Holy Cross City jeep road, others will need to hike in at least 2.5 miles), but the views and cabins are well worth the trek. Snow free season tends to be June 15 an October 30 annually, and outside of this guests should be prepared for up to 11 miles of over-snow travel with no cars allowed (a bit less depending on snow coverage in the shoulder seasons from May 21 - early June and late October - November 20)
