The entrance is right off of highway 135, 8 miles north of Gunnison. Come down the driveway and take a right into the field. The tent is nestled against the cottonwoods far enough away from the main house for complete privacy.
Relax on the property or use it as your adventure base camp. Less than a mile from Gunnison river access, National Forest access in hunting units 54 and 55. Not far from units 66 and 67. Almont is a 2 minute drive, Gunnison is about 10 minutes away and Crested Butte is about 20 minutes from the property.
The queen size bed will be made (additional cots can be added with advance notice) and the kitchen has a two burner propane camp stove, tea pot, pots, pans, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and utensils. It is stocked with drinking water, oil, S&P, coffee, tea, marshmallows and fresh eggs from our chickens will be provided daily.
The tent is equipped with a wood burning stove and stocked with firewood. Additional firewood can be purchased. Kindling and fire starters are also available at no charge- let us do the hard work - you RELAX! Electricity is provided, so you can charge your phone or whatever else you need.
Enjoy your private fire pit, chill in the rocking camping chairs, or walk across the field to the main house and enjoy the hot tub on the deck. You may spot our horse "Sassy" or some of our chickens roaming around.
A porta potty is situated near (but not too near) the tent for your convenience. Towels and wash cloths are also provided.

The House where we live is the corner stone of the Bruce Property and is on the Colorado Register of Historic Houses.The residence was constructed between 1905 and 1912, using red bricks made on the site. John and Sophia Bruce, early pioneers in the North Fork Valley, were first involved in cattle raising. The family later became successful fruit growers. We absolutely loved our time in Cabin 1 at Sapinero Village. The view was stunning – waking up to the Colorado landscape was a highlight of our trip. The cabin itself was spotless and well-maintained, and we really appreciated the extra touch of having an external bathhouse that was cleaned daily and always kept in great condition. It made our stay feel comfortable and worry-free.
Perfect for a small group (we were 4) and great value for the experience. Would definitely come back!

Weekend Trip to Creekside Chalets
The Chalets are great! Nice and quiet, picturesque, but still very close to amenities. The land itself is beautiful and you can hear the creek from just about anywhere on the property. Our cabin was nicely appointed, clean, and comfortable. Would absolutely go back. Thanks for a great weekend!

We stayed in the 2-bedroom suite and had a wonderful "glamping" experience. The rooms were clean, with plenty of silverware/cookware/kitchen utensils available. Check-in and out was a breeze with the detailed communications we received, and the location is ideal for exploring the Salida and San Isabel National Forest areas. The only negative was that it was quite hot at night despite running the fans and opening the windows (which were a bit tricky to get open). The property owners are planning to install a swamp cooler for the unit soon, and that should help mitigate the heat. As a family of 5, we found this suite perfect (the sofa in the living room pulls out into a futon-style bed). Highly recommend this spot for any families looking for a nice glamping vacation.

Weekend Trip to Gondola Village at Holy Cross
As everyone else said, this was SO worth the hard hike! What an incredible experience, we can’t wait to go back
A few things to know:
DRIVING/PARKING:
as of Aug 2026, the GPS coordinates for the parking lot for Tacomas and 4Runners leads you up the 4x4 HCR on Google Maps, which is NOT doable, so make sure you follow the written directions provided and NOT Google Maps!!!!
HUT LOCATION:
We had a hard time locating the hut from the city - it is up the hill to the LEFT when you are facing the HC city. we could not see the huts at all because of the trees and were very unclear where to go and it took us a little while to find
Other things:
- Highly recommend Cleveland Lake day hike
- Easy access to water source when we went (slow trickle moreso than a stream but easy to get to)
- Don’t recommend relying on the solar generator/panels
- We hiked up the 4x4 road (by accident) and it was ~4.5 miles, ~2400 elevation gain. Constant uphill with tough rocky terrain
Don’t want to give all the fun away, but it was even better than we expected and highly recommend this experience! We can’t wait to go back

3 nights at Basalt Mountain Homestead
The tiny house was lovely! Very cute decor and a stunning view! I agree with previous recommendations of bringing fans and eye masks as it gets direct sun light all day. It cools off nicely at night but is quite warm during the day time. The drive up is definitely winding and some dirt road up closer to the homestead so keep this in mind depending on your vehicle and comfort driving in those conditions. It’s totally worth the drive up!

Grace was great - well stocked with cooking utensils and dishes, super nice beds, good AC, and a great view of the mountains. Composting toilet was a bit confusing at first, but easy to get the hang of…I highly recommend reading through the whole of the booklet before trying to work anything in the camper. Would highly recommend.

3 nights at Gondola Village at Holy Cross
A good high-alpine base camp. The construction is tight, the windows and screens are new, we didn’t have a single mosquito or fly during the stay despite keeping the windows open.
The small steel table works well as a camp kitchen, and there’s pots and a frying pan available. There was a tiny rivulet 30 yards from the cabin with just enough flow to refill bottles.
Off-roaders will love the jeep trails. We hiked, and carried water shoes for the crossings on French Creek but didn’t need them (it’s a drought year). There are nicer hiking trails up above the cabin and toward Fancy Lake/Pass. We found Gaia far more useful than Alltrails in this area since most of the old trails are unnamed/unmarked and without pre-recorded routes.
The bed is comfortable. We brought sleeping bags and pillowcases. At 1:00am, the first night, some animal was scratching at the siding and then on the beams underneath. Very loud. I used a long piece of wood (there’s still plenty of construction detritus around, handy for the purpose) to roust it out, then it left us alone for the rest of the trip.
Things to bring: water filtration, maybe sporks, charged headlamps and battery backup since the current solar/battery system in the cabin is not functioning. Ben intends to work on it…but near term I’d bring a backup, so your phones/nav don’t die like ours did before getting out of the wilderness.
All-in-all a great trip. Thanks, Ben, for managing this place and letting us stay. What a cool adventure!

This was a great setup. The tent was cozy and the bed was comfortable. All the supplies for cooking were provided which was lovely and the fresh eggs were a lovely touch!
Overall this is a great option if you are looking for a home base while exploring Gunnison or Crested Butte.

Weekend Trip to Frenchman's Creek Ranch
We had a great time at Frenchman's Creek Ranch. The medium canvas tent site was a convenient and comfortable place to relax after a full day of riding motorcycles. There is lighting and a table inside the tent, wood Adirondack chairs on the tent platform, and some camp chairs that can be used inside or around the gas fire pit, which is a particularly nice touch during the ongoing county fire bans. The tent sites are located within a stand of mature Aspens and there is enough distance between the few sites to feel comfortable in your own space. The hosts were easy to work with and were super responsive to messages, yet unobtrusive during our stay. This is a working ranch and it was fun in the morning to hear the cows having some strong opinions about something. Overall, a great experience and just way better amenities than state or federal campgrounds, but without the crowding and institutional feel of true commercial campgrounds. Buena Vista is a short 10 minute drive away if you want to go do some shopping, dining or partake in activities. We spent a couple hours at Strange Craft Beer Company where we enjoyed great beer and live music in their beer garden. Would definitely stay here again.

1 night at Frenchman's Creek Ranch
We loved the tent we rented here! Everything was simple and comfortable. The tent had plenty of room and the bed we added on was so comfortable! The space felt very secluded and quiet. The bathroom was always clean and the shower was nice. The animals were so adorable! It was very calming to be around them . We walked to the river a few times and it was absolutely beautiful! The hosts communicated well and made sure we were comfortable and had answers to all our questions. Can’t wait to come back!

2 nights at Basalt Mountain Homestead
We were charmed with Lily's Tiny House. It is clever and incredibly well built. All amenities are present in a compact and efficient space AND you do not feel cramped. The expansive mountain views from the deck are amazing and Ginger was prompt, friendly, and accurate. We ordered fresh organic eggs from her (yum!) and were pleased to be able to meet her.
One thought is that we wish that there were not so many fees and taxes, which made it a bit of a budget stretch for us....
We had a terrific time and highly recommend Lily's!

2 nights at Agora Adventure Salida
A very cleanly campground with beautiful views and great amenities. I was on a month long camping trip so staying at a cabin to rest and have some AC for a few days, while being able to recharger devices, was a great reset that I needed. Working on the porch, sitting in the swing was a bonus! Beautifully renovated restrooms/showers too, it felt quite luxurious compared to other places I’d showered during the month lol. Linens/towels provided in cabin as well.
Quiet place at night which is much appreciated, respectful people, and each of the different camping styles are offered to suit all needs.
Amazing place to be to take a break from tent/dispersed camping!

We have stayed here two times now and host Stacy is amazing! She is quick to respond, accomodating, and friendly. The property is well maintained, and clean. Great place for families, doggies, to stay. Close to Paonia and Big B's, and also Hotchkiss. Would reccommend 100% over and over.
