My daughter and friend had a wonderful time at Joe's place! They had a great, level campsite and could hear the creek from their tent. There are great trails close by. The campsite is secluded and private, but the drive into Durango and up to Silverton is easily do-able for hiking other trails. They loved it! La Plata Canyon is so beautiful and peaceful. It's a very special place. Joe was helpful. The campsite is equipped as indicated on Hipcamp. They want to go back regularly. Joe was a wonderful host. Thanks for being awesome, Joe!

The kitchen access was so helpful (a real time saver!) and the views towards Mesa Verde were great, especially from the tent sites called View 1, 2, 3, though the shade trees at Ute tent sites were useful if spending time at camp. Everything was clean and well managed. A short drive from town and from the park. A lovely stay!

We had a nice stay at this family friendly campground while we visited Mesa Verde National Park. It is a good location for accessing the park and had clean facilities.

We loved Sunrise campsite. Electricity included. We loved the sunrise in the morning and the shade in the evening. Bathhouses has great HOT showers. There were Bible verses on the sidewalks. The community space with kitchen was such a nice treat!

Beautiful and very private campsite. My husband declared this the best place we’ve ever camped. As others mentioned, it is about 1 mile up a gravel driveway to reach the house and the campsite. We tow a 5000 pound two axle trailer, and didn’t have any issues going up or down.We used the water and electric hook ups, which worked great. I think there was sewer on site, but it didn’t appear to be in the same area as the others. Host was very communicative and very much left us to ourselves. It was wonderful to be so close to Durango and not in a large RV campsite.

1 night at Aimee's Social Club

Since I’m not very good at backing up I chose to park on the tree lined street. It was perfect. The area is great for a dog walk and if you don’t come on a Monday there’s a very close Mexican restaurant that looked intriguing and a brewery if you are just looking for a good drink. Sapphire was very gracious and sent me off with some ice packs and ice for my failing fridge.

Great location just about 15 minutes from town. The setting was lovely and we were able to say hello to the resident horses and donkeys. Linda was a wonderful host!

Weekend Trip to Bright Star Campground

We loved the scenery and the solitude of the location being close to Mesa Verde, and also away from any crowds. The host was super helpful, and the amenities and space met all of our needs. It’s very family friendly with games and a communal area. The kitchen was well-equipped and the bathhouses were nice. Great sunrise and sunsets!

Weekend Trip to MSB Legacy Retreat

We certainly recommend MSB Legacy Retreat. The sites are very well prepared, pleasant to be in, very clean, secure, and easy to access. When staying here, it becomes obvious that a lot of care and thought has gone into these accommodations. It's a lovely setting. Communication was A++. We enjoyed our brief stay and knew that our enjoyment of the site was important to them. We will be looking for an opening again in the future whenever we are staying in the area.

Weekend Trip to Bright Star Campground

Our family of five stayed here for one night and had a great time! Although we were disappointed we couldn’t cook at our site due to the fire ban, the shared kitchen and pavilion more than made up for it. The kitchen was well stocked with just about anything you might need, and the pavilion was a great gathering spot. It really encourage a sense of community. We also loved the family-friendly extras—there was a hammock, telescope, games, and even an arts and crafts station that kept everyone entertained. It’s a fun and thoughtful setup that made our short stay really enjoyable!

What a great find! We’ve never been so comfortable in the great outdoors and Joe’s place has every amenity one needs. This is well above primitive camping but nice to be spoiled for a few nights. Joe has thought of everything as other guests have mentioned. Great stay and a pleasure to meet Joe (and Norma, his cow).

Everything about my stay went easily, smoothly and great. Easy to find, really well located, excellent communication. Basically matched everything I wanted and needed.

A historic farmstead in the high desert with an 80-year-old heritage apple orchard, pond, dry land cliff, and large trees. Incredible sunset views, dark skies for star gazers, and only a 20 minute drive to the Mesa Verde Park entrance. This is a great stay for animal lovers: we have a flock of domestic geese, two alpacas, a very fluffy and friendly dog, a black curious cat, and a waddle of ducks who will all want to say hello at some point (don't worry, the geese are friendly). Enjoy visits from wild friends such as deer (including a rather impressive group of stags), hawks, and eagles. In the fall you can pick apples from the trees. In the summer, guests can enjoy cherries, plums, and apricots. There are a few camp spots to choose from on our property: in the orchard with views of Sleeping Ute Mtn, near the pond, or on top of our cliff (a bit of an adventure to bring your gear up, but you'll have some great views). Campers must have a self-contained system, no facilities are available at this time. Fires may not be possible depending on the area's current fire risk. Propane camp fire pits are A-ok. This is an animals-lovers location - there may be some noise from them.

We have a single, isolated, quiet, fully contained RV site on 67 acres. The 46ft by 14ft wide concrete pad has all the hookups (50amp power, water and sewer) and a picnic table. The ranch is at the dead end of a private road, hidden from all. The only noise you’ll hear at night are the frogs in the pond. We are a working cow ranch, dogs are welcome as long as they don’t chase cattle, deer or elk. The property is a haven for deer and migrating elk in the fall. The property has a large 30-acre pasture, canyon with walking trails, and 3 ponds on private land. There is also private access to another 40 acres of BLM land. The ranch contains a heritage apple orchard, (over 100 years old) that is still producing. If you’re lucky to be here in the fall you could pick your own apples. The ranch is 15 minutes to the entrance of Mesa Verde, 15 minutes to Cortez or Dolores. We are away from traffic and neighbors, so if you need peace and quiet this is the place.

While the lower elevations received almost no moisture, the higher elevations are at only 53% of the 20-year average snowpack. Given these conditions, I have made the difficult decision not to host campers this year due to the heightened fire risk. Your safety is my utmost priority, and I would never want to put any of my guests in harm's way. Please stay tuned for updates.
