Inspired by our love of the desert fauna and the night sky, the Kosmic Tortoise dome tent is located in Wonder Valley, 20 mins from the east entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. We are one of only two inspected and permitted glamping sites in the Joshua Tree area. The tent is situated at the rear of our property with a private road and unobstructed mountain views. Can’t decide between sunrises and sunsets, well here you don’t have to. On any given day they range from spectacular to mind-blowing. If stargazing is your thing, you won’t be disappointed, on a good night you can see the Milky Way. This is the perfect desert escape to unwind, explore or just relax while having access to a safe, air conditioned, solar powered bedroom, private bathroom, mini fridge, gas grill, gas fire pit, outside dining area, outlets for charging and much more. This listing includes the queen bed for up to 2 people. We live on the property and consider The Kosmic Tortoise an extension of our home so please reach out if you need any assistance. The camp is less than two hours from Los Angeles and Orange County and only 2.5 miles from the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, as well as Covington Flats and Black Rock hiking and day-use areas. It is also conveniently located between the towns of Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, with access to off-road recreation areas such as Johnson Valley OHV.
The land is home to native Joshua trees, cactus, and seasonal wildflowers, with views of rocky foothills to the south and open desert valleys to the north and east. Wildlife sightings may include jackrabbits, quail, hawks, kangaroo rats, snakes, and coyotes.
This is primitive, dry camping with no water, power, or hookups. Guests should bring their own tent and or RV, camping supplies, plenty of water, and a sense of adventure.

This was a great place to camp. We had plenty of space and privacy while surrounded by beautiful Joshua Trees. The sunsets were amazing. I highly recommend it!! Max was awesome and easy to communicate with! Perfect!

Absolutely beautiful, peaceful, serene, and just what I needed for this past weekend. My father’s 10th year deathversay and late mother’s birthday was this past weekend. I needed solitude and to just be with my emotions. Staying at Buddha Cave gave me just that. The space I needed to just be. Shayna & the other folks I saw drive by were extremely friendly, and kind. They gave me my space but reassured me that they were close if I needed anything. I slept one night in the cave and the second night I camped outside the cave just to see more of the stars. Both places were magical. Thank you Shayna again, for allowing me to stay here. I will be back to show off your space with my family. 🩷

The campsite was great! It was beautiful with the giant boulders surrounding it. There were a few other people hiking around but it was still peaceful and quiet. Would definitely return!

We had a great stay here and would definitely come back.
We booked the container site, which leans more toward glamping than traditional camping - having a real structure and a bed made it super comfortable while still feeling like a getaway. The property itself is really nice, with an outhouse within easy walking distance and a sink with running water, which was a big plus.
The 4WD access is short but definitely steep, so just be prepared for that. Once you’re up there, it’s worth it. We enjoyed exploring some small hikes around the property and also spent a good amount of time in town, which is just a quick drive away.
The only downside is that the site sits fairly close to the road, so you do get some street noise. It wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, but something to be aware of if you’re looking for total silence.
The owner was great - very friendly, responsive, and even met us on arrival to give a quick tour, which we appreciated.
Overall, a really solid spot for a comfortable, easy Idyllwild getaway.

This was a fantastic experience, the hosts were very kind and accommodating, we ended up in a beautiful private area surrounded by date. Palms and inside was everything you could want a large giant tent with everything set up inside beds, towels, and everything to make us comfortable. Outside was too natural Hot Springs for our private use. This farm is on an aqueduct in the water is piped up into the spa and you could use it at your leisure 103° natural mineral Springs water. There was a fire ring. We had a beautiful crackling fire every night barbecues set up really all you need to bring. Is your clothes some food and a cooler because everything else is there for your comfort. We had an amazing time. Beautiful bright stars filling the night and just the most serene, gorgeous hidden gem. I would definitely recommend going here.

Whenever we visit Joshua Tree, this is our go-to site. We’ve stayed in different seasons, and it’s always perfect. It’s honestly one of our (and our dog’s) fave places on the planet. The peace and serenity it brings can’t be beat. For anyone worried about it being too remote, the road is extremely manageable and town is just a short drive away for groceries and restaurants. This trip, we brought friends who are more accustomed to crowded campgrounds, and they loved the site and will be coming back. The host is also a five-star host.

Nice campsite in a rock enclosure - if you pitch a tent it needs to be small and self standing. The Sanctuary is great - super friendly chill people and a pretty interesting history. The location is also really cool - lots of giant boulder mounds to explore and some nice walks on the property which is over 600 acres and similar in landscape to the north end of the Joshua Tree reserve. Campsites are private and spaced out - you won’t have to worry about loud neighbours. All in all I’d recommend it - it’s quirky and unique and beautiful.

Peaceful, serene, and tranquil are the first words that come to mind, but these words are still nowhere close to doing it justice. This is my second trip back here and both of them have been meaningful ones. This is a place you come to escape from people, your everyday routine lives, the hustle and bustle, and more importantly, a place where you come to find yourself among the endless sea of boulders. Can't wait for my next trip back here.

What a cool and unique camping experience! Ron was an outstanding host. He demonstrated great communication as we were arriving at the farm, and directed us to our special site secreted away amongst the date palms. The date farm was apparently quite full, but we felt like we had our own little hideaway. If you stay here, it’s really interesting to learn what Ron is doing on the farm. We ordered the ramen and purchased a pound of dates. Highly recommend anyone staying does the same. Ramen was SO GOOD! We loved the date farm and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a magical one of a kind experience.

We have a 25 foot Airstream trailer and there was plenty of room to circle around to a level spot at the top of the clearing. The dirt road was graded nicely; no potholes or rocks in the road. Lots of privacy and quiet. Feels remote, but it is only 10 minutes away from groceries, gas, etc in nearby town. Perfect location if you are visiting Joshua Tree NP. It's only 15 minutes from West Entrance.

Our rv spot at Overlook had the most spectacular view across the hills and distant mountains. It was very private and so peaceful.
We arrived late in the evening and missed the sunset but the full moon, night stars and sunrise were amazing.
We were greeted by a lovely young woman who drove ahead of us to take us to the site. The dirt road was pretty bumpy so beware if your vehicle is low slung!
All in all we loved it. Thank you hosts. We highly recommend a visit!

What a remarkable experience. Truly one of a kind. Sitting around a fire in the warm desert evening with the sound of the wind through the date palms was something I will never forget. Dates are excellent as well- be certain to opt in and buy some.
