Beautiful days and regional travel options abound near the middle of the California coastline.
Sitting in temperate central California, Sunnyvale's a great visit if you dislike extreme weather. The average summer weather here is gorgeous, with dry highs usually in the upper 70s. Even in the winter months, Sunnyvale's highs average around 60. The beautiful Bay Area weather makes this region a very popular destination for those who love the outdoors. It helps that Sunnyvale's within convenient driving distance of other major central California locations. The big city of San Francisco is about an hour's drive north on US-101. San Jose borders the east side of Sunnyvale. The beach town of Santa Cruz is about an hour south. There aren't many options for RV parks in the city itself. Aloha Mobile Home Park is your best bet for overnighting. Outside the city, try Half Moon Bay RV Park or Coyote Valley RV Resort. Looking for a spectacular spot to do some hiking? Head about 20 miles southwest of Sunnyvale to reach Big Basin Redwood State Park. Nine trails travel through the old-growth redwoods here. The most popular is the easy 0.6-mile Redwood Nature Trail. Want a real backpacking challenge? Schedule three days to tackle the 25-mile Skyline-to-the-Sea trail. Almaden Quicksilver County Park sits a similar distance from Sunnyvale to the southeast. If you're here in the spring, schedule a trip to see its lovely wildflower bloom. It's an excellent spot for a warm-weather picnic with friends or partners.
