What’s not to like? Lovely summer camp vibes, gorgeous, kind and friendly hosts, 10/10 would return!

Weekend Trip to Camp Watanda at Lake Vera

Very rarely does a property exceed my expectations, but Caseywood did! This site is on a lovely, private and quiet property, it is a bit of a climb to get to the site with your car, but once there it is very private, lovely clean flush toilets and showers (with hot water) were a short walk away. We spent 2 nights with our dog, there is a small lake on the property, our dog thoroughly enjoyed the lake. He spent 2 days playing fetch in the water. The access to the water was clean, although Geese have been present, plenty of "toys" at the water (aluminum canoes, kayaks and a SUP), plenty of life jackets and other water toys were available to use in a nearby shed. All were free to use and kept in good condition. We enjoyed the communal fire pit one night and got to know our fellow campers over some Smores! The property is well tended to, the host Kathryn was there to greet us, and kept very busy making certain all was just right for arriving guests. We had planned on just sleeping on the property and going for day hikes, but ended up staying on site all weekend, enjoying the peace and the lake. We will definitely visit again!

4 nights at Camp Watanda at Lake Vera

We had the most amazing camping trip! 2nd time at Camp Watanda. It did not disappoint. We love this place! It is me and my boys favorite. Camping on a deck is the way to go! And having the chairs to sit on and table w/a shelf provided for your camp stove is awesome! Plus the dressing room w/curtain is nice for changing. The lake is beautiful! And having the kayaks, paddle board & canoes w/plenty of life jackets to choose from. As well as, badminton, tether ball, giant connect 4, horseshoes, etc. all provided...fantastic! Less stuff I had to squeeze into my car or strap to the roof of my car. And at no extra charge! How many places do that these days? I would absolutely recommend Camp Watanda for families or couples/ friends looking for a great & affordable camping experience :)

It was a great time! The site was great, cooler because of the location next to the creek. It's also pretty secluded within the campgrounds so it gives your group lots of privacy. We had a great time!

Weekend Trip to Camp Watanda at Lake Vera

Camp Watanda is GREAT for kids! So many fun things for them to do. It was fun seeing all the kids running around having a blast. And even though we don’t have children, we enjoyed ourselves as well. The lake was full and we had a wonderful time swimming and paddling around. It’s just a few miles from downtown Nevada City, and we used Watanda as a jumping off point to do a bike ride from there. It was a very hot day, so we enjoyed coming back to camp and jumping in the lake.

As a mother of young children who are yearning for more of outdoor, rural play, best players makes that technology even existed. An amazing family environment, and Greg is a wonderful host! So many amenities and things to do, highly accommodating for children. This place has touched my heart enough to make it an annual camping spot for us. Highly recommend.

Perfectly peaceful spot in farm land area. I was camping in my Hillbilly Truck Camper. Miss Susan, along with super cool stick chasing dog Sara greeted me upon arrival. Then, Mr George came by and invited to tour his underground wine cellar. We sampled wine and I learned all about his wine making process — very cool! I even bought couple bottles, I really appreciated their hospitality, it was a JOY to be there, and I hope to return again. #yeehaw Razz The Roaming Hillbilly

Weekend Trip to Garden Goddess Farm

Chef Susan was very kind. We felt really bad for arriving late on our check in day, but with communication it worked out fine. The tiny barn is perfect for a solo spot or a couple of friends. The futon and mattress are each twin sized. My partner and I were visiting their ill grandmother in Grass Valley. So the location was perfect. Chef Susan offered us flowers and herbs from the garden. That was super generous. We were also able to buy fresh eggs from the hens on the farm. Really beautiful and quiet grounds. I wish we could have stayed to learn about homesteading. We enjoyed our brief stay.

I recently stayed at this campsite and had a great experience overall. The location was excellent — peaceful, scenic, and conveniently situated. One of the highlights was definitely the river nearby, which added a relaxing and refreshing touch to the whole stay. The site itself was very well organized, from the layout of the pitches to the clean and accessible facilities. Everything felt thoughtfully maintained, which made the stay stress-free and enjoyable. That said, I did find it a bit expensive for what was offered. While the setting and organization were great, the pricing felt slightly on the higher side.

Ellie and Jack set a really high bar for our first time using Hipcamp. They were incredibly responsive to any of our questions and made the experience super smooth. We were in awe of the set up in and around the tent the whole time during our trip. The tent was super cozy and comfortable, the outdoor shower was amazing, the hot tub under the stars was memorable, and I could really keep going. Lots of stuff in the area to explore and after 3 days there is only feels like we scratched the surface. Looking forward to going back sometime soon!

2 nights at Camp Nauvoo

My friend and I camped here the days following memorial day and had a wonderful time. We got really lucky and had the entire campsite to ourselves for the two days we spent there. The hike was beautiful and our campsite was Creekside, which was perfect. There’s also a small swimming hole on the property that we spent a whole day at. The lodge was comforting and had coloring books and board games. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The bathrooms and showers were kept clean. I would definitely recommend this site.

2 nights at RockNWater Cove Camping

Kris's HipCamp is a great spot. She checked in with us on day one to ensure we had everything we needed. The site was clean. It was mostly shaded from the oak trees and has a beautiful view to rolling hills, oaks and wildlife. It was a short and peaceful walk to the river. The bathrooms were clean. The downsides for us would be that the Larry and Curley sites are very close to each other. We would only reserve it again if we were traveling with another family who could reserve the neighboring site - and in that case it would be a bonus because we could all be together. I would recommend the Moe site if possible because it's in a more private location just up the road. The other possible downside is the available beach is fairly small and just one small section of the river is accessible for swimming and water play. It was great for us because no one else was there when we were, but I can't imagine trying to share the small area with more campers.

Weekend Trip to Love Creek Sanctuary!

We loved staying at the farm. As soon as we got in the car to go home my kids were asking if we could come back. They especially loved all the farm animals. I loved that they had freedom to wander around safely. We camped under the shade of some beautiful trees and also used the RV. It was great to experience both options and we would happily come back to do either one. Tip: bring earplugs when the peacocks are in mating season :)

Weekend Trip to Sacred Valley Ranch Retreat

My wife and I stayed in the popup camper during Memorial Day weekend. Geoffrey is a very nice and helpful host. He communicated and responded all questions/concerns in a fast manner. The camper itself is a bit small, but very cozy. It has an AC fan that's helpful, but any day above 100 degree, be prepared for other cooling options. It sits nicely in the middle of the ranch and access to bathroom is very close - the bathroom itself is clean, the trash can could be bigger :) . Note that parking is in front of the house and the camper is in the back so there is some walking involved while moving camping gear... As for the camp itself, the place is beautiful and huge for hiking around. There are horses and chickens around that make it feel serene. The Hidden Falls regional park is nearby and its border is about a 15-20 mins walk. However, hiking to the fall will take 3-4 miles (follow the Grey Squirrel path, once you hit the intersection, turn left on North Legacy path). It was a moderate hike and has amazing scenery. Geoffrey showed us the path there and around his property on his offroad vehicle, which was awesome! We had a fun time here and maybe we'll come back when the swimming pond is available to swim =)

We are also located in the Armpit of Nevada county with 3 access ways 15 mins each way to Grass Valley, Nevada City or Penn Valley. The neighborhood of this area is also one of the more safer bike friendlier places, you can ride into town along the NID trails, or set up camp and head up the 20HWY less than 20 mins to enjoy Epic Mountain Biking Trails. Not only are we crafty, but also nature enthusiasts to feel free to reach out and ask about fun things to do here, if you are looking to stay busy exploring the nature. We also have a beautiful sunset hike that overlooks some beautiful views. Oracle Oak Grove has a wide variety of camping options. We have a camp grounds on the lower end of the property that currently hosts 4 different camp sites. the 3 May Pole zone, and 1 Faerie fields. There is one shared Bonfire zone that can be used for friends camping together during the spring and late fall months when we are not in fire season. We love hosting groups and birthday parties. Also individual campers as well. We have two yurts available if you are more into the Glamping experience or especially if camping in the winter. The Witches Hut and The Little Witch Hut! The Witches Hut which is larger and can fit a family of 3 or 4. This hut includes a patio, grill, and Private entrance. The Little Witch Hut is smaller and more suitable for a couple or a single person wanting some solo retreat time. This one has cooking amenities accessible in an outdoor kitchen just outside the yurt. This one also gets better access to the Starlink available on the property. This yurt has the compost toilet outside and is a less than minute walk to it. Both yurts have the ability to park fairly close to them and both are fully furnished. The Yurts are available for a higher expense than the camping of course. We are sorry to say that Hot tub season is now closed. We do have a wood-fired Cedar Hot tub, she is our Cauldron she is only available during winter and very early spring visits. I am sorry, but due to fire season and her being wood-fired she is not available outside hot tub season. If you are interested in the experience it requires advanced noticed as well as an extra charge for wood, cleaning, and tending. She is a labor of love, and such a unique experience. Enjoy the smell of cedar, chlorine free waters under the stars. Enjoy and hopefully you come and experience the Magic we have made Stewarding these acres. PLEASE come check in before DARK. We are in a very Rural Area and it can be difficult to see a night where to park and camp. Camp Nauvoo

Camp Nauvoo was originally bought by the LDS church in the 1960's for a girl's camp. The camp was owned by the Boy Scouts from 2011-2015. The Rose family bought the property in 2016 with the intent to continue the tradition of tent camping as well as creating opportunities for exclusive events i.e., group/family reunions, weddings and corporate events. We are a small privately owned small campground (20 sites only) located on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, canvas tents on platforms, teepees and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. We are tent camping only with only one site that allows a small travel trailer or van. (#14) . We are dog friendly and allow dogs in all but 5 glamping sites. We do enforce camp rules especially our quiet time between 10 PM and 7 AM (please review). We’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe. We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together with multiple families. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day. We have a lodge that is stocked with games and a ping pong table. The lodge has a microwave, Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups).We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We have electricity at the at the lodge for small appliances and charging phones. We have a compressor on site to blow up your air mattresses or float toys. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. We offer nice flushing toilets and hot showers! We have many extra amenities including a compressor to use for your air mattresses, For outdoor activities we have basketball, volleyball, pickleball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing sets, seesaw and tractor play. We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores (bring the fixings). The creek starts out in spring looking like a rushing river featuring many fishing and swimming holes. As the summer progresses the water level falls but is still great for water play and fishing. We have propane BBQs (we provide the propane for BBQs) located throughout the property. We also have a propane grill and charcoal BBQ located in the common area for all to use. There is a dutch oven pit also in the fire bowl area. We do not allow wood fires at the individual sites but each site has a propane firepit for ambiance (not cooking) that requires you to purchase a 20 lb. propane cannister on site (add in extras) or pay cash on site. No internet service. There is limited internet only available for purchases at the setore. We require a 3 night minimum for the major holidays - Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. We do not do checkins on Sunday but do allow camping over Sunday night. We do exclusive events so you may need to explore multiple weekends to find the right reservation. We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historical towns with great eating establishments. Tahoe is less than an hour away and there a many hiking trails within 20-30 minutes. If you have a dog that has been around farm animals and is well behaved, let's talk about it. We have 5 dogs so the birds have NO FEAR of them. ---- We are a working farm - PLEASE READ----- There are donkeys, roosters, dogs and peacocks that make noise, sometimes at night and always early in the morning. Please be aware that you may hear the donkeys bray (usually lasts about 30 seconds), roosters crow, guinea fowl chirp. It is startling and will wake you up. We do our best to keep the dogs hushed but we cannot stop the donkeys, roosters and peacocks from doing their thing. If you are a light sleeper, please bring earplugs or select another wonderful Hipcamp in our area, thank you! In addition to the interesting sounds you will hear, you will encounter dirt, poop and spiders. Since we are a working farm, things get dirty. We spray all high traffic surfaces twice a day but things get dirty and when it rains it is muddy. Please plan accordingly. We are centrally located between Grass Valley and Auburn, giving you access to endless recreational activities, wineries, breweries and restaurants. We have 50 or so rescued farm animals, you can interact with our pig Hank, Mojo the goat or Teddy the alpaca.
