The L3 Ranch was founded in 1974 when my grandfather bought the property for his show cows. In 1978, someone gave him a racehorse to pay off a debt. From then on, the property was known for its Quarter horse race horses, with some of the best in the state being born right here. In 2013 he found our he had cancer and handed the ranch down to me, Travis. While he survived the cancer, he's happy in retirement playing cards with his buddies every week and hanging out with his dog.Now the ranch is known for its horse boarding, cattle, and goats. We even hold weddings and events at the lake sometime. My main goal is to bring the ranch in a more in line with sustainable ranching. This is great option for those who like to bring all their own gear to camp, and don’t need or want all the extras. Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds.
There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing.
We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you. We do not have dumpsters/trash service on site so please be mindful of this when packing and booking.
You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. Most of our weekends are fully booked at our Rustic Campsites already, so here is another chance to have yourself a weekend camping trip at our new Primitive Adventures campsites. The trip to the site will begin with a three mile drive on a private dirt road. Being on the very top of a mountain brings more seasonality than the surrounding cities. Please be prepared for any kind of extreme weather. Summer: Shade is highly recommended it can get into triple digits. *Spring/fall: Temperatures are generally mild but high winds are possible. *Winter: Typically cold and windy. *During rainy/muddy conditions 4x4/AWD is highly recommended. It is possible for it to get windy, foggy, rainy, hot and sunny, and even sometimes snowy.
Please note: the nearest grocer is 30 minutes from this site. Emergency supplies are available for delivery to your campsite. Cell phone reception is good on most carriers. Pets are allowed. Enjoy your time howling at the moon, star gazing, bird watching/wildlife viewing, or relaxing with your favorite libation.
Don't forget your camera!
Since this is our first year renting our land we have found that August is a high wasp season time in the mountains. We are doing everything humanly possible to hunt down each and every Wasp for your enjoyment. With this in mind we ask you use the provided bug repellent, keep the lid to the trash closed, and do not pour grease anywhere you do not want wasps.

It really is a beautiful and wonderful property. There is wildlife, and it is private and peaceful. It is very dark at night and the view of the stars, moon, and planets is amazing.
There is poison oak on the property so please be aware. We will show you what it looks like, so you can easily avoid it.

The site was really clean and well kept, easy to back into, and the power and water were in good working order. It was a quiet area with nice big trees and some shade, which was exactly what I needed. Brian, the host, brought us some cow treats to feed to the adorable cows, which we thought was a nice touch. Would 100% recommend.

The cows on the property were absolutely adorable and so friendly! It’s also in a great location—only about 35 minutes from Sunset Beach. Big open space in the Livermore Hills. Great for just hanging out and relaxing. There’s a nice patio area by the tasting room that they offered for us to use with fire pits. Be aware of no fire bans, since the hills can be quite dry.
Bathrooms are clean and easy to walk to. Tasting room was closed but Kelly was nice enough to allow us to buy some of her favorite wines. We ended up finishing both bottles!
Ground is a bit rocky so be prepared with cots or air mattresses if you are tent camping.

When we arrived, we weren't quite sure what to expect as there was a party going on and lots of cars but we met with friends of the owners who were very nice and said the party was over at 5. In all fairness we reserved a site that morning. At 5:00 all was quite and lovely. The winery and outdoor area is very charming. We notice that it looks like in the near future there will be 5 RV sites with power and sewer. We are self contained so didn't need any amenities for the night. I would definitely come back and stay either as a destination or stopover on our way through. I took some lovely pictures I'd love to forward to you.

We stayed there in our fifth wheel RV and Brian was an excellent host, always very friendly and made sure that we felt welcome.

What a great little spot. The spot is as advertised. Plenty of room to back in my 24' trailer. I needed about 2" for leveling that that's no big deal. Water pressure and electric were great. Lots of opportunity to place your rig for decent shade. Duley the little cow was such a fun addition and made the spot.

We showed up and Kelly greeted us. She didn't see us on her list of guests that were supposed to be there that day. She didn't see us because we came a whole week late! Totally my mistake. I'll call it a stupid attack. She checked her records and found us to be there a week earlier. She quickly said everything was good to go and have a good time. A very sweet overnight camping experience. Very quiet despite being in a neighborhood. The little cow was adorable and his mooing was quiet and infrequent. This IS in a neighborhood, within sight of homes so if you're looking for something totally secluded this isn't it, but I found the stay very relaxing/easy.
