Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Camper

We loved our stay at Fern Ridge Camper! It had everything we needed and was so cozy. We especially enjoyed our access to the firepit and private outdoor space. Matt was friendly and kind and made sure we were comfortable. Thank you so much!

2 nights at Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

Magical! It felt so private, like we were in the middle of nowhere among the redwoods— except we were also 15-30 min from the cutest coastal towns, the ocean, and many state parks! There’s some pretty impressive redwoods on property. We saw banana slugs, dear, and many more critters exploring the trails behind the site. Water for washing and an electric outlet available too! As some of the other reviews mention, the site is small. One 4 person tent could fit comfortably. I enjoyed having the convenience of the composting toilet, and would like it better if it was further away from the fire pit. It’s literally 3 feet away lol! Not too far away there’s another clearing with a bench and a small table, perhaps that could be a still convenient and more private location for the bathroom.

This site was so serene and beautiful! Being woken up by the birds and soft light coming through the trees was unreal. Having the string lights, fire pit, picnic table, and little toilet made it comfortable and just like a typical campsite at an established campground but better. We loved our stay!

Matt’s camper was great, cute and cozy. Just be aware that there is only one table outside if you want to rent the griddle. We wished the table was bigger!

Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

We camped with our toddler and had a great stay! The site is really private and surrounded by redwood trees, and it’s a ~15 minute drive to the beach and the Forest of Nisene Marks. The only downside is that there were a lot of mosquitos while we were there, although with bug spray and long sleeves we don’t seem to have gotten bit much.

Such a peaceful and serene retreat. Spent a great weekend here with my boys and will definitely be back. Serves as a great base camp to explore nearby towns and travel to the beach. Also has enough amenities to just kick back on property and enjoy a relaxing day. Marshall and Tanya were amazing hosts!

Weekend Trip to Redwood Paradise Camping

I loved camping on Ruth's land. I was at site 3 poolside and I was right next to the pool and the parking. First time ever camping right next to a pool!! Their place is in the Santa Cruz Mountains, yet was only 15 minutes from Felton and not much more to town. The location was very convenient as I forgot bug spray and had to go grab some at the store which was a quick drive. The property is surprisingly quiet, with the exception of their well pumping water every so often (barely noticeable). Marshall, Ruth's son, was telling me about the cleaning they've done in preparation for the season and it shows. His piano playing is very relaxing too! The rules they had were very reasonable, especially since its just a single mother with her son running this whole thing. Make sure to bring a small table because the sites don't have their own tables—which is something I would recommend to Ruth and Marshall! I can't wait to come again and bring my girlfriend:)

Ruth's place is great! Her son Marshall and the dog Snoopy are fantastic hosts (the coffee on the deck in the morning is a wonderful touch). We had a great time with our two young kids, they loved the trampolines and the swimming pool and we enjoyed relaxing in our very private campsite. We definitely recommend it and we hope to be back soon

Great communication with the host, ample space, location well situated for visiting wineries, cycling or strolling thru Livermore with its restaurants, shops and farmers markets. Bathroom and shower area were very clean. Quiet and peaceful surroundings with nice views of the distant hills.

Was looking for a cheaper option than hotels to bring my 4yr old to Santa Cruz and this was perfect. We ended up not leaving the site because it was so perfect. Chickens, garden, beans, toys. Full shared kitchen at the camp sites. Grounds are well maintained and the residents are great. Patricia was so friendly and accommodating and our little ones ended up playing all day. Very cute and excited to come back to see our friends

Weekend Trip to The Ranch at Cross Road

This site is in a perfect location. It's surrounded by dozens of wineries, lots of natural beauty. But it's also only about a 10 minute drive to get to downtown Livermore where there are tons of great restaurants to pick from. If you're into shopping, there are quaint shops downtown as well. The campground itself is organized well. This was actually my very first Hipcamp experience and I never felt lost or confused. There were signs on the property indicating where to set up. The bathroom/shower area felt like rustic elegance. The shower has privacy, but with an open roof which was a great experience. Matt provided very helpful guidance to prepare, including suggestions about what to bring weather-wise and things to do in the area. Actually, his communications were excellent and well timed i.e. I knew the gate code far enough in advance to not be wondering how I'd get in. Felt completely secure and safe. If you are tent camping, I suggest bringing a tool to pound stakes with as ground was dry. Also recommend a base tarp due to dry vegetation. I slept in a 2-person tent and was completely comfortable, slept like a rock. Highly recommend Matt's land and hospitality.

Weekend Trip to BANKS RANCH IN THE REDWOODS

Really great hospitality - kids loved meeting and feeding the animals. The trek to the creek was steep, but the kids loved it (ages 4-8). Lovely, quiet site with sounds of the running creek and nothing else around. FYI no wood fires in summer, but they did provide a propane fire pit as an alternative. Would stay again!

Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

Great spot on private land with gorgeous views! Very secluded even though you are just behind the host's house. Are kids were just old enough (3.5 and 5.5) but any younger would have a hard time staying out of the poison oak and away from the steep hills. Matt was very thoughtful with the amenities that make this spot so easy and comfortable - toilet, spigot, gas fire pit. It's a very peaceful spot bursting with nature that is soothing on both the eyes and ears. So easy to get into town and have a beach day, then come back to camp in the redwoods.

I loved camping on John’s land. It was a perfect spot for us for the wedding we were attending at Roaring Camp Railroads, which was less than a mile. Fall creek trail and the town was within walking distance from the site. John was so kind and helpful. Would recommend to anyone that wants a great spot to stay in Felton.

Weekend Trip to Windsor Family Farm

Our family loves staying here. This was our second visit, and we went with our three kids who are 5, 7 and 9. The whole property is a kid paradise, especially if your kids love animals. They can feed sheep, pet rabbits, and watch little chicks poke around. Our kids also had a great time riding bikes in the open field area and jumping on the trampoline. The sleeping setup in the little house was perfect for a family our size. Even with roosters waking up early in the morning, the little house was quiet and we slept in. Kim, the host, is so kind and she makes an amazing breakfast.

We are here in Gilroy Ca, on a rural 2 acres just outside of town, further up our road is Coyote Lake to go boating and fishing and Harvey Bear park to go hiking and horse riding. Santa Cruz is a 45 min drive West over hwy 152 and San Jose is 30 min North on 101 and keep going a bit more and you will be in San Francisco. Here at home we raise several different kinds of lives stock. Goats for meat and milk, Sheep for meat and wool and eventually milk, Pigs for meat, Rabbits for meat and hide, Chickens, Ducks and Quail for meat and eggs. We have a garden and small orchard with nearly a dozen fruit trees of different kinds : loquat, a few apples, plums, apricot, peach, fig, persimmons and my favorite the pomegranate! We process everything ourselves using ancestral techniques and love to share and learn with others. Id say the main draw back here is the traffic noise but beyond that, We are quite lucky to have very a green and Id say an oasis of a property, with multiple large palms trees surrounding the pool area and a large weeping willow tree in the main yard/sheep pasture. At the NE corner of the property is a very large oak tree, it is majestic and with the tipi door open to the East the big oak is the first thing you'll see every morning besides the suns rays! The entire Northern property line is rowed with 60ft tall redwood trees and there are a smattering of citrus trees around to boot! The freezer is stocked with in house meat, the BBQ is hot, the pool is cool, come relax after a day on the trails!

We are a 5 acre property and home surrounded by tall redwood and oak trees. Very green and lots of shade. These are the amenities/facilities you will have free access to: Pool, Pool chairs and umbrellas, Deck area with sunset view, Trampolines, and hammocks. There is not cooking allowed by or at any of the common areas, due to flies and critters. Cooking and eating is only allowed by your sites and not in any common areas: Hammocks, Trampolines, Pool Area, tables, sink, and deck please follow this rule because we want to prevent our shared areas to be fly and bug infested. We are still working on ridding the flies and cleaning. (please try to bring prepackaged food or something easy. If anything you can drive 10 minutes to nearby food and grocery). In the past we let people cook and eat around the pool but now our whole property is fly infested and I find scattered leftovers on the ground. Thanks for understanding. THERE IS A 1-2 MINUTE HIKE TO THE CAMPSITES 1-5! Poolside campsites are closer to the parking and are bigger. CHECK OUT OUR NEW LODGING: This property is my home that I live in with my 2 kids. It is a rustic and homey vibe, definitely not a hotel. We want you to come knowing what to expect. Our property offers a pool, and trampolines for the kids. We have a deck patio area that overlooks an amazing view of the redwood forest. Most of our guests are those that come from foreign countries and they all LOVE the property. Horseback riding rentals are located near the park as well as an archery range. Demonstration forest is 15 minutes down the road, with miles of mountain biking. Spend a day at one of the beaches in Santa Cruz, Capitola, Aptos, Rio Del Mar, Davenport, Half Moon Bay, Monterey, or Carmel and return to your private oasis. Or Explore Silicon Valley from this centrally located parcel. Kim Son Meditation Center and Mount Madonna Center are approximately 15 minutes away. There are also wonderful wineries throughout the mountains here. The trip to the site will begin with a three mile drive on a private dirt road. Being on the very top of a mountain brings more seasonality than the surrounding cities. Please be prepared for any kind of extreme weather. Summer: Shade is highly recommended it can get into triple digits. *Spring/fall: Temperatures are generally mild but high winds are possible. *Winter: Typically cold and windy. *During rainy/muddy conditions 4x4/AWD is highly recommended. It is possible for it to get windy, foggy, rainy, hot and sunny, and even sometimes snowy. Please note: the nearest grocer is 30 minutes from this site. Emergency supplies are available for delivery to your campsite. Cell phone reception is good on most carriers. Pets are allowed.
