State park 11mi from Miranda · 3 sites
To provide power for the new development in the valley, a concrete dam was constructed across the south fork of the Eel River from 1931-1937. The dam not only provided power but also created Benbow Lake. The Benbow family, interested in preserving the natural scene around the hotel and along the river, made efforts to place the land under State protection. In 1956 funds were approved for the Benbow Project and it was purchased in 1958, creating Benbow Lake State Recreation Area. Today the park consists of campsites and a large day-use picnic area. Hiking, picnicking and camping are popular summer time activities, while salmon and steelhead fishing are popular in the winter.

Redwoods nearby? Forest Bathing? Dunks in the Deepwater Pond? Wood Fired Paella? Hiking on site? Have it all and relax at our forest glen located in Southern Humboldt 5 miles up private dirt road (2 wheel drive OK- but sports car height is not good ( IE not a BMW or Tesla)--higher clearance is best.) Our land is part of an old collectively owned by "back to the landers" group from the 70's. The parcel is over 500 acres, but our portion is about 40 acres. There is a large deepwater pond with a rowboat (and frogs) orchard, stream, and many hiking trails my husband created and dirt roads winding through the property. 420 friendly! Enjoy the birds in the morning and frogs on the pond at night from your well equipped tent with queen mattress and comfy comforters, sitting space, and wood counter for food prep. ( propane ok) No fires allowed at site but enjoy the large communal fire pit and terrace steps away. Our deep water pond (15 ft) is FULL and ready for warm summer swims. Wifi and electric for charging and an electric water kettle for coffee making is available at the communal space. EV charging is possible but slow off of our solar panels. Hiking trails on our 500 acre property and Lost Coast Trail at Shelter Cove Black Sands beach is 1 hour away. Ave of the Giants is 45 minutes away. We encourage 2 night stays as it is a bit of a trek to get here. Your hosts have everything you might need ( cooking wise) and can arrange for cooking equipment and utensils. Need Paella pans? Paella is our passion and we can offer a Paella Cookout customized to your dietary needs for an additional fee. We are 5 miles up a private dirt road ( 2 wheel drive is ok but caution to lower clearance vehicles) You will be deep in the relaxing forest. The 16 foot bell tent is quite large and can accommodate 2 more travelers. However they would need to provide sleeping bags and mats. Children under 10 not recommended The Chimes tent is slightly smaller 13 foot bell tent set on a platform 6 feet off the ground-- literally in the trees! We provide one citronella candle. Don't forget your headlamps. We are 35 miles (once on the pavement) to Lost Coast Trail and Shelter Cove. 20 miles to Ave of the Giants.

Briceland Vineyards Ranch is 57 acres of oak woodlands 5.5 miles west from Redway Ca. on Briceland Thorn Road. This is the one road in and out of the lost coast and leads to Shelter Cove, about 15 miles west. This is about 15 miles to Avenue of the Giants as well. The property is the home of Briceland Vineyards, the first winery in Humboldt based on Humboldt grown grape and the most awarded winery in the county. To access our sites, find Ferren Road, about 1/4 mile east of Briceland. Head up that gravel road about 75 yards. It is ideal to text or call ahead so I can come out to meet you as you arrive. This park gets its rather self-descriptive name from the six beautiful rivers that flow through its borders, but don’t the name fool you. There is a lot more than just rivers to check out here. More than a million rambling acres of forest take you through foggy and mystical redwood landscapes. Further inland, miles of towering Douglas firs, glacial peaks, and hidden pools just wait to be discovered. Of course, the rivers are the main attraction. You can’t go two feet without tripping over a perfect swimming hole. After your dip, there are plenty of warm rocks to lay out on. Oh, and if the natural beauty doesn’t get you: this was the place where they first spotted Bigfoot. Yeah, the original footage that basically made everyone believe in the hairy bi-ped. That, on its own, is reason enough to check it out

Pitch a tent or park your RV right off the main road to the spectacular Lost Coast of California. Our property is located 5 minutes from Cape Mendocino beach and 4 minute drive to downtown Petrolia, we are surrounded by scenic pastoral views and ancient forest. We have multiple camping options and a wood chip driveway that can accommodate a couple RV's (or vehicle camping). Our land has fields and forest, a seasonal creek, and incredible star gazing. We are right on the Mattole Road, so the RV spots and campsites close to the road with easy access will see cars, but we have 26 acres including plenty of tucked away spots that can be walked to and are far from the road if you are seeking seclusion. We are working on developing campsites, but for now, you can have your choice of where to camp on the property. You can sleep out in an open meadow or in the forest under the Pepperwood trees. This is a working farm, so there are livestock and everything that comes along with them on the property! We have sheep, goats, geese, ducks, and chickens. The sheep and goats free range most of the time on the property, but are accostomed to people and usually either keep their distance or stop by to say hi. We have building and ecological restoration projects on the property as well. Our property has been farmed and ranched since the late 1860's and has a beautiful old barn. As the most recent stewards of the land, our family is starting a small organic farm on it utilizing regenerative agricultural methods. It is a beautiful place and a work in progress! For now we can offer a rustic outhouse, fresh spring water, a sink for dishes, and Wi-Fi access to our guests, as well as knowledge of the local area. Downtown Petrolia has a general store (sells gas but only accepts cash), Sunday Farmer's Market at the community center, a pioneer cemetery to explore, the gorgeous Mattole River for fishing and swimming, and access to the Mattole Beach. *Note: this is called the Lost Coast for a reason. It is gorgeous and remote, but the roads are winding, steep, and poorly maintained in some areas. We only our two wheel drive Prius out here, so the roads are definitely navigable, just a bit intense. Consider helping to support our efforts and get involved! Reconnect with nature at this unforgettable escape. Lovely and peaceful private redwood forest and off-grid sustainable farm. You'll b surrounded by lush green ferns, towering redwoods, seasonal springs and streams, in a deep ravine with the sounds of nature to connect to creation. Get away from the hustle, bustle and noise when you stay under the stars. Camping on private property often with no other campers around.
