As the most recent stewards of the land, our family is starting a small organic farm on it utilizing regenerative agricultural methods. It is a beautiful place and a work in progress! My aunt and uncle bought the property in 1947 from its first European settler, Paolo Gabrielli, who immigrated in early 1914 from northern Italy with slips of his grapevine in the lining of his coat. (The grapevine still grows over the back deck.) What can you expect? Quiet, beauty, birdsong, ocean roar, widely spaced campsites (only 5 on the 5 acres set aside for camping). Walk to the beach of our wild ocean along a no-shoulder country road. We have no visible neighbors, no ambient light or sound. We offer homemade soup, cobbler, fresh bread, morning coffee as extras; you can order with the booking. The Victorian village of Ferndale is three miles east, as is a beautifully maintained 110-acre town wilderness with hiking trails called Russ Park. A 150-year-old cemetery slopes down a hillside & is filled with 19th century charm and history. Shops and restaurants welcome visitors. There are several bars/a wine bar/and a historic saloon that's as old boy as it was in 1890. A music venue in a restored 19th century church has amazing acoustics and attracts international talent as a top-notch venue (sessions are filmed for PBS) midway between Portland and San Francisco. So, it's a mix of town and country, village and farm, wilderness and bewilderedness. Safe, safe, safe, meaning: you can leave your belongings in your site and when you come back... they're still there :) One caveat: please arrive before dark. There is no electricity in the campgrounds, and no generators are allowed. You will not be able to reach (or maybe even locate) your site without disturbing others. This is a place of beauty, love, and laughter; we welcome the world.

Located in Dos Rios California! Where the Eel flows North 70 miles creating a river vortex that returns back to the river confluence. A rarity in the Northern hemisphere. An awesome location for a mountain retreat with excellent views from camp as well as views of the lovely Eel River from the top of the property. Easily accessible from Hwy 101 only 13 miles along the Covelo Road Hwy 162 to Dos Rios. Where the Eel and Russian rivers converge. From Dos Rios and the River it is a 2 mile scenic drive along the Dos Rios Laytonville Road to the property., The entry is right off the main Road. The road continues on and makes a northbound loop and meets the Hwy 101 at Laytonville. The road is well maintained and any vehicle can travel the 9 mile trip which takes about 30 minutes driving moderately. This area offers great mountain biking, days on the river, hikes along the new designated state hiking trail along the Dos Rios railroad tracks. Trips to the Mendocino National Forest, bird watching and wildlife in general to see, there are many indigenous species in this microclimate of two rivers. Many backroads and adventures to travel and have. Currently able to host two large sites and up to 10 visitors. The Eel River is only five minutes down the road with dozens of glorious swimming holes.

Nipisum or 'health water' was later bottled by the California Medicinal Springs Co. at the turn of the 20th century. -Historic gold-mining, museums, shops, and classic small-town charm in the greater area. 🐝Other things to note: -Trinity Outpost is committed to the land-sharing ethos of Hipcamp preserving ecology and defending habitat for wildlife and pollinators. The mineral springs and trails are open to the public during the daytime. We also host with WWOOF cultural exchange volunteers helping us bring life back to this historic land building an organic farm and sustainable community. Campground is yours to book but is also surrounded by National Forest Land which belongs to everyone. !!! The tent is permanent, as are the casual chairs and the old feed trough (c. 1914) fire pit. Fire wood is free. This site is located at the edge of a forest, with a trail going to the interior. Southern end of meadow, site faces north.

Great quiet campground. Highly recommend get there before dark especially if bad weather. Also Google Maps will try to send you all the way to willow creek if you’re coming from the coast and then have you drive back. But overall 10/10 would recommend this site.

From the friendly welcome to the quiet, peaceful overnight stay - I enjoyed Wendy and John's farm from the moment to I got there until I woke up and left in the morning! It was a perfect spot for my car camping night on my drive down the coast. The would definitely stay here again and hopefully for more than one night to enjoy the Ferndale area!

Such a great spot! Was super secluded and all the bathrooms were clean and there was lots of water. I'm definitely planning on coming back here again. Only thing I wish I knew ahead of time was how dewey it gets at night. Definitely cover your fire pit with a tarp so it's easier to start in the morning!

Wendy and John’s property was just what we need to charge up our depleted internal batteries. It’s close to the beach. Close to Ferndale town. Camp residents are spaced far out. They had been very generous with the camp fire wood. There’s a big pile and it’s free. And the best part of it would be the couple who owns the property. Will definitely come back. Thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bigfoot Flat on Willow Creek. Shannon was super friendly and helpful in her messages. They provided potable water and a number of very clean porta potties for campers. There are a few sites but they are not close together. We mostly had the place to ourselves, one other person arrived while we were camping but they went to the other end of the area and we could not see or hear them from our site. There is some road noise but the lovely creek does a good job of drowning out most of it. There is a good amount of mowed area to walk around and the creek to wade in as well as pretty views of the surrounding mountains. I would highly recommend this hip camp!
