We had such a wonderful stay at The Octagon! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Simone, our gracious feline host, who gave us a charming tour of the property and made us feel right at home. The location is absolutely perfect—peaceful, scenic, and ideal for disconnecting. The sleeping area was cozy and comfortable, and stargazing at night was a highlight—so many stars visible without the interference of city lights. It felt magical. The kitchen and bathroom setup was super convenient and thoughtfully designed. We loved being surrounded by nature and even spotted deer and a skunk during our visit. As a bonus, we visited the owner's restaurant, The Record, and had an amazing time. I enjoyed some delicious local wine, and my husband loved the beer selection. Add in live music, and it was the perfect way to end the evening. All in all, it was a truly special stay. We definitely hope to return.

This is a lovely, level spot overlooking the coastal trees (but not quite the ocean). There is a large, level parking area and some wooden lounge chairs in a clearing, with a picnic bench and several tent spots. The approach is on a gravel road and then a gravel track, well-described in the listing. The location itself is wonderfully quiet. I heardbirdsong in the fog each morning. One should be aware that there are no amenities (water/toilet etc.), and no fire pit, all of which was fine with me as a self-contained van camper. Just down the road, the center of Pt Arena is a small town with store, movie theater, etc. Visiting the coastal towns was easy from Pt. Arena. All in all, a lovely experience that I would happily come back to!

I enjoyed the bell tent. It was very clean and cute in the interior. I loved the land and playing at the lake. It was incredibly peaceful. I’ll definitely be back! It was hot so enjoyable to spend time at the lake mostly. The staff was friendly, hospitable and welcoming.

We loved our stay on Steffny's property! We received a warm greeting upon arrival. Our campsite was very cute, cozy, and private. The bathroom facilities are in the main house and kept very clean! The lavender garden was beautiful! The only draw back was that there were several small caterpillars in the tent at any given time and we squished one that fell on our bed while sleeping. Overall, would certainly stay there again!

One of the best glamping experiences we've ever had! We stayed at a luxe tent with a real bed, so clean and cozy. The campground is huge, with trails to hike or bike, and a reservoir for kayaking, swimming or fishing. And it was also very convenient that they have a community kitchen with bbq grills. There were also hot showers, and water and soap by every bathroom. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, we really enjoyed chatting with folks while making s'mores in the evenings! We were also super lucky to be there around the time when their friend, an astrophotographer Mich, had a telescope setup up the hill, telling campers about stars, astrophotography and showing us galaxies at night. That was so cool! We saw a huge meteor that day! Highly recommend this place for stargazing, they even plan a special event in August for Perseid meteor shower!

The coastal bike and hike trails are many. From South of Ft Bragg to the Sand Dunes near Ward Ave. you can travel over 7 miles one way and go down to quiet little beach coves along the way. Meadow Farm is a nonprofit 501c3 with goals of coastal food security, disaster preparation and sheltering, carbon sequestering and forest restoration. We offer native plant tours on or off site with advance notice. We like our dog companions! Two McNab collies, Moxie and Shama live here and may bark at first...still very friendly and social with people and other dogs.. There are several dog friendly off-leash areas such as, Noyo North Harbor Beach, Seaside Beach and dog parks in both Ft Bragg and Mendocino. Our farm is dog friendly tho we wish pets to be kept close, must be neutered and friendly to other dogs and people. Please be sure to bury or bag the waste. Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps. Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online. Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time. If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away.. When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay. We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away. From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them. Electricity is provided by a solar photovoltaic system and battery back up. All water is pumped with solar power and gravity fed throughout the property. If you drive a half hour west from my land you will be in the coastal Mendocino village. It was a last minute book that morning, if I remember right - my campsite had fallen through. His directions were spot on, and very kindly he stayed up to take me to my site and help me get set up, even going so far as to light me a fire. His property was easily navigable in the dark, and my two wheel drive made it fine. We talked for a while - what a cool guy. He was able to give me recommendations from a friend of what to do during the next legs of my trip, which was great and really did make a difference for the rest of my week. I cooked my dinner and sat stunned looking at some of the best stargazing I’ve had in a long time.When I woke up I realized that I had been sleeping next to a mountainside view - this was site 3. Talk about the best surprise I’ve gotten in a while unzipping a tent. The clouds were gathered in the valley and as I ate breakfast I got to watch the sun slowly clear then out. It was unbelievable.Before I left, Cosmo let me use his indoor solar-heated shower and told me all about his projects to build his own home and roads and move towards a more sustainable future. Overall this is really the best of what I imagine hipcamp has to offer - kind property owners & unique individuals who care about their guests while also allowing them to have their own experience. Nestled on the edge of the Redwoods and Pygmy Forest, adjacent to Russian Gulch State Park. The property has private access into park which consists of many miles of beautiful Redwood trails,the trail to the waterfall, biking trails along with a trail that leads straight to the ocean. Come and relax around your private campfire and cook over the open flames or treat yourself to fine dining in Mendocino or Fort Bragg, the experience is at your fingertips. From camping under the stars to hiking and biking through the redwoods or kayaking up Big River, come let the Mendocino coast show you what it’s all about. Our goal is to make you feel right at home. Each of our three sites has a redwood deck with a sink and food prep space, potable water, remote solar lighting, picnic table, smokeless fire pit and grill, firewood, level parking area and tent pad. One of the three sites can accommodate a 25’ trailer. There is a beautiful redwood bathhouse with two outdoor showers and two flushing toilets. All water onsite is potable so make sure to top off before your day of adventuring. There is a horseshoe pit, cornhole, and badminton set for fun under the sun. All sites are a two min walk to the State Park trails and 5 min ride to Jackson state forest bike trails. It's about a half hour walk to the beautiful waterfall from our property. Large Groups are welcome to book all three sites with two additional RV locations. Also we have a fully stocked westfalia camper van to glamp in if your wanting to pack light for the weekend.
