great location, about 10-15 minutes outside of mendocino
campsite is very private, secluded, and quiet, it feels very much like you are in nature
the owners property is spit into two, so their house is across a small dirt road
the campsite itself is simple and peaceful. water, toilet, table, chairs, and open space to walk around and set up camp

Cool space for a couple or solo
The site was as described, however it wasn't quite as private as i expected. There are homes/ buildings within 50m and i could hear people talking and playing music everyday/ night. There were also multiple cars that drove into the camp space the first morning I was there so I didn't feel comfortable leaving any of my stuff there while I was out. There was <5 gal of water, I lifted the barrel by myself when I got there, which was fine for me solo. Watch out for toilet spiders lol. I had to clear out the webs before I could use the toilet the first day. Hope I don't sound too negative, I would stay here again. But don't expect a private space where you can be loud with a group.

What a great place to stay! It was super private, minutes from towns and the coast, small roads to walk the dog, clean, bathroom and water provided, what else do you need? Would totally stay here again! Thanks for hosting us Kim!

The spot was exactly as described. The table and chairs were super handy.
The composting toilet was fine. The step is a little steep but it was tidy and there was plenty of organic material to scoop on top. I'm glad I read everything and brought my own TP because there was none available.
I did hear a few cars driving by but I felt very secure and "unseen".
As others have mentioned, a neighbor has dogs that bark but I only heard them a couple of times during my 4 days and they settled down pretty quickly - I heard the faint barking but it wasn't incessant.
My Kia soul has no problem maneuvering in and out of the property. There is an unavoidable dip as you turn onto the main road when leaving the driveway and my car scraped - perhaps a car with higher clearance would do better?
Overall this was a great spot for a home base close while I was exploring. It is 15 min to downtown Mendocino where there are shops and restaurants and markets and there are lots of state parks before and after.

Overall, we had a really nice experience: the spot is lovely, private and sunny as described. However the outhouse was very wobbly and needed improved structural underpinnings. The step to the composting toilet was more than 12” above ground level and the step was perched at either end on free-standing stumps that were not very wide and not sturdy. I used the toilet only once, deciding it best and safer to use the facilities at the local parks. If it were not for the wobbly outhouse, I’d give this hipcamp a really high rating.

A safe, private, and beautiful little area in the coastal hills of Mendocino. The campsite itself was decently clean and kept
Unfortunately I arrived to Mendocino area late in the afternoon to find it was filled with smoke from a local prescribed burn. An unhealthy amount of smoke. The campsite was directly downwind and only a few miles away from the burn. Sleeping/tenting there wasn’t an option for me.
I messaged the host and asked if they’d cancel the reservation because of the circumstances and never heard back. I recognize they didn’t owe me that, but was really disappointed they didn’t even respond

Really lovely camp spot a few miles off the coast. The site was very quiet and the basic amenities such as a compost toilet and water barrel were appreciated. Mendocino is a fifteen minute drive and has everything that you need. There were a number of critters roaming about the campsite after dark, but they didn’t bother us and moved on pretty quickly once they realized there were no snacks to be had. Directions were great and it was easy to find.

The site itself is very nice, however the tent locations are narrow and the ground is full of stumps and rocks.
If you don’t use an inflatable mattress, you’re in for an uncomfortable night.

WOW! What an awesome little spot. I was suprized by all the Mansanita trees, it reminded me of my home in So Cal. I took long walks on the roads with my dogs and met a few neighbors, but very private. Super Cool! Top 10! Love Love.

Thanks Kim for this lovely weekend. It was wonderful to have a campsite all to ourselves, with sun and shade among the manzanitas. Stargazing was a highlight! The site is just minutes to the coast, ideal for exploring northward from Albion to Fort Bragg, but tucked away and completely private. Appreciated the rustic but key amenities…drinking water, compost toilet, small table, and storage box on site. Will be back again!

This was our first time using Hip Camp and we loved it! The campsite was easy to find, very beautiful, and specious. We loved the table and chairs as well as the water jug. My only critique would be that the outhouse seat seems to be a bit broken making the outhouse experience not ideal. Looking forward to when the owner can install a fire pit! Would definitely recommend this site to anyone staying on the Mendocino coast.

I am so happy with this spot and if I come back to the area (which I'd loved to do), I'd definitely stay here again! There was such a comfort of being close to people (single mom with a 13 year old son with special needs) and feeling like I'm in the middle of nowhere all alone! We barely heard any traffic at all and everyone but the barking dog was respectful and quiet, I hope we were as well! We were gone most of the day, so I'm not sure what the daytime was life there. Everything was very clean and the toilet was as well- it was very easy to use with clear directions written on it!!
A few things to know:
There is a pretty high step up to the toilet, so although it is a handicapped accessible spot, I'm not sure I'd count it for that reason. Also would be hard for someone with mobility issues, specifically with the knees. Something VERY important to know before booking a spot that says handicapped accessible.
Definitely bring bug spray; there were mosquitoes, but they weren't out of control.
There is a pretty deep dip as you go onto the road to the campsite, so be sure your car can clear that (my CrV did fine).
I didn't see a park here sign, so I just parked where it looked like a car would park. The sign that marks the driveway isn't super bright, but be sure to look at the photo before getting there, because I didn't. Could just be dusty from the dirt road.

Great spot, there is no house on the property so it is very private. The downside is that we felt a bit nervous leaving our tent unattended whenever we left the property because it is not gated and anyone could wander in from the road. Having said that, it is a very quiet gravel road and tent is hidden and risk is low and we had no problems. The neighbors dog was barking constantly at times in the evenings but stopped before bedtime so not really a problem. Overall highly recommend for location and price and privacy

Not really a forest, been logged over and is scrub and brush. Is quiet though even if pretty close to nearest home/building only real noise was dog barking in distance and not for long periods

Very peaceful place. Delivers what it promises. My dog was happy and able to be off-leash here. It feels private even though there is a seldom-frequented road behind it with morning dog walkers. The only thing that might disturb you is Raven telling you stories in the morning after a full moon. But if you live for things like that as I do, you'll feel right at home. No bear issues. Yay!

I really enjoyed this spot. It was secluded and there were no other camping areas. There was a small table and chairs, a bench, a bear box, and water provided. All things which made the experience better and more convenient. There was also shade. I spent one afternoon hanging out reading at the table, not something I would enjoy at some of the other spots I have camped at.

Nice little tucked away spot. It feels a little odd camping in a neighbourhood but this spot is surrounded by trees making it feel pretty secluded.

This was a great spot for my husband and I to camp for the weekend when we came up to Mendocino. It's nice and close to town but also close to the parks if you're going hiking. It was easy to find with the directions given to us. We only spent time there at night as we were out and about during the days. It was fairly quiet except there are some dogs in the neighborhood that were barking late into the night one night. The compost toilet was fine and we didn't have any problems with it.
The one thing that was different than the description, was that there was not a tent there when we arrived. We brought our own, so it wasn't a big deal, but if we were relying on that, it would have been a problem. I tried texting the host, but didn't get a response. There is not great cell service in the area, so prepare for that as well. Also there were mosquitos there that we weren't expecting with the cool weather, so bring bug spray.
Overall we had a great time, and the space was nice.

Easy to find with the GPS coordinates and description provided. Great set-up and beautiful location surrounded by manzanitas. Owner was responsive and overall I was very happy with my stay. 15 minute drive from Mendocino and easy access to the coastline is a plus.

We loved camping at Kim's campsite! The spot was well equipped with chairs, table, bear box, and potable water. We also met Ted, the neighbor, who was great to chat with! I wish we stayed more nights. The stars were so amazing at night and the neighborhood was very quiet and safe.

Wonderful private and quiet campsite close to beaches. The pictures say it all - good sun, good shade, clever outhouse, ample space to pull in and turn around, plenty of room for additional tents. We really enjoyed our stay.

Loved the single tent site in a relatively quiet neighborhood. Unlike several other sites I've visited, there was just one dog barking at night, and it was brief (at around 3:00 AM). The outhouse bathroom was free of smells. I didn't use the tent/queen bed, as the wood greeting indicated dogs aren't allowed in the tent. Nice touch that a small table and three chairs are provided, as is a metal box in which to place and lock stuff. Had difficulty noticing the 'Hipcamp sign' (somewhat faded) at the entrance to the site, and I've recommended Kim modify the instructions. I recommend this site and will plan to visit again.
