We are a 160 acre off-grid, homestead located in the coastal mountains of Mendocino County, California's Emerald Triangle. We have been homesteading here since 1998 and have developed a lifestyle where we nourish the abundance that thrives here. Bill has built the entire homestead, including our solar system, water system, roads, our orchard, our barn, our home, and each camp site. We grow our own food in our CCOF organically certified gardens, make all our food from scratch and make our own medicine. We are heritage, personal Cannabis cultivators and we have a "do it yourself" attitude towards life. We are ready to share our lifestyle with others, as we host campers on Hipcamp. We offer an off-grid homestead tour of our solar system, a garden tour, seasonal vegetables from our gardens, an encounter with our horses & goats, and my own personally hand-crafted organic ice cream delivered to your site. Our land is abundant with wildlife and guests are able to view the wildlife in their natural habitat. Our internal, dirt roads are private and provide for enjoyable walks and bike rides. Land History: Back in the day, our land was part of a large sheep ranch. The Skunk Train was used by homes along the tracks for transportation and supply deliveries. Today, we can be heard daily on its journey along the tracks which run through neighboring properties. Learn more about this land: Greetings from Cathy and Bill!! Over the last 24 years, we have developed our 160 acre, off-grid homestead in the forested, coastal mountains of Mendocino California. The Pond Site: We are delighted to share our lifestyle and to offer everybody a sweet, private spot in the woods next to our pond, where you can be free to explore the outdoors and observe the abundant wildlife in their undisturbed home. We walk lightly on the land, and we expect our guests to do the same. We are family friendly and have excursions for you to meet our horses and goats, or tour our off-grid solar system. The pond site is located on a private, internal dirt road, which provides for long, secluded walking or biking activities. The pond is big enough for small kayaks, paddle boards, and rafts if swimming is not your thing. “The Best Rest Along the Way” We have created a “self-contained” dry campsite along our main road that is van and truck camping friendly, and can take travel trailers max 16’ length. Did I mention that town is less than 10 minutes from your campsite? NEW 2022 Pond Site Addition: We have installed a new fire pit this year!! Upon your arrival, you will find complimentary, match-light firewood set up in the pit for a warm welcome to your site. More firewood is available for purchase throughout your stay. It is illegal in California to travel across county borders with firewood. Firewood often has insect eggs or larvae that can devastate a forest. Please refrain from bringing firewood purchased or harvested from outside Mendocino County. Come check it out! The homestead has much to offer: Eat from our organic garden, check out Cathy's handcrafted, Organic Insect Repellant. We are cannabis friendly 🌱, we like a chill vibe, and if you get the munchies ... Cathy handcrafts some delicious organic ice cream that we'll deliver to your campsite. Off-Site Excursion Options: - The Skunk Train 🚂 from Willits &/or Fort Bragg - Ft Bragg & Mendocino Coast - Botanical Gardens, Kayaking Van Damm, Coastal Trail - Jackson State Forest - Montgomery Woods - Tallest Tree - Blue Lakes - Eel River - Wine tasting - Casinos

self-contained site
Worked for my needs. The lake site is definitely the winner out of the two sites here, but this site is great in a pinch like I was when the storms cancelled my state park reservations. There’s no amenities (no bathroom, or table or fire ring) but that shouldn’t be a problem for those familiar with Leave No Trace. Thanks!

This was a great spot for stargazing and seeing some wildlife. Cathy and Bill were super welcoming, and we could tell that they had put a lot of time and thought into preparing the campsite. We loved how private the space was, with a perfect spot to set up our tent and make food. Would definitely return!

Lovely campsite and experience!
We loved camping at Cathy and Bill’s homestead. Private spot all to ourselves with a beautiful view, complete with firepit, camp table, outhouse and running water! It was a perfect balance between site camping with amenities, but with the remote and private feeling of dispersed camping. Cathy was so nice and helpful, and we even purchased some delicious homemade ice cream and organic garden fresh kale. Definitely will be coming back here again, maybe next time with some more friends!

Love this place, and will be back!
Cathy and Bill are amazing hosts. Directions were very clear and easy to follow. What an awesome campsite, absolutely gorgeous. I was amazed at the wildlife in this area. I had deer and wild turkeys come through the site. I sat and enjoy watching the deer eating their breakfast on the hillside. The turkeys were a flock of about twenty and they moseyed on through and hung out for a bit before going up the hills. The pond is beautiful and full of big frogs that will sing you to sleep when you bed down for the night along with the crickets. It’s a beautiful area that I can’t wait to go back to. Cathy and Bill also offer extra things you can do, like visiting with their horses and goat, check out Bills solar system, and even order some of Cathy’s home made ice cream. What more could you ask for. If you are looking to get away from the city, this is the place to go. I will be back! :)

My group and I had an awesome time at Cathy and Bill’s site. Although it was a hot weekend, we were able to keep cool because our campsite was completely shaded. The pond was only a short walk away from the campsite and was teeming with life. The outhouse was also clean and well stocked. Unfortunately we couldn’t use the fire pit this time around but the night sky and shooting stars were a treat. I would definitely stay again and have Cathy’s homemade ice cream!

Looking forward to next time!
I loved staying at Cathy and Bill’s Pond site. It was an amazing experience. The peacefulness is worth it all. My first morning in the tent I got to watch momma and baby deer come through camp. I watched them for an hour or so climbing on the hillside eating. A couple of days later it was flock of wild turkeys came through about 20 of them. The pond was so pretty and full of frog’s that sang me to sleep every night. The stars at night are incredible and you can see them so clearly, unlike trying to view them from the city. If you are looking for someplace to get away from it all and enjoy nature, this is the place!

It was a wonderful experience… so much solitude in being the only campers on site. Beautiful star gazing at night, and it was a delight checking out all the frogs in the pond. Very grateful for the hosts in all their flexibility and kindness.

All that and a bag of chips
So much awesomeness at this spot. Stayed here last minute and was able to check in about an hour after the request. Greeted with a friendly smile and shown to a picture perfect campsite that we had all to ourselves. Took advantage of the homemade ice cream and devoured the chocolate walnut in no time. Slept better than I did my entire trip out under the valley live oaks that stayed about 10 degrees cooler than the open picnic area. Absolutely loved the property, the hosts, and everything that they offered. I will be back. That’s a promise. Until next time

You have the whole place to yourself! Well, other than sharing w a family of deers. The layout is really well done. There are definitely enough space for two families with total privacy. One site is totally exposed (great for night sky), the other is shaded. Borge have its own picnic table. The pond is an eco paradise. I suggest you put away your devices and just sit on the dock listening to various species mingling w each other. That’s the best meditation you can have. We spent the 4th there to visit Willits Frontier Days. So the location cannot be more ideal. 10 minutes to the cutest town that’s undiscovered by the winery snobs. Only 2.5h away from SF, we will definitely return for a long weekend. Next time we plan to explore the western forest

Come to this site simply because Cathy and Bill are some of the nicest and coolest people you will meet. Be prepared for some fabulous views and homemade organic ice cream made by Cathy. You might even see a family of deer including a young fawn like we were able to do.

Total wildlife immersion!
Cathy & Bill have done a magnificent job creating a campsite immersed in mother nature. They are at your beck and call but leave you alone to enjoy their land. They even deliver Cathy’s excellent homemade ice cream and their organic herbs & produce to the campsite on your schedule. The pond ecosystem is incredible. The reeds and pussy willows attract so much wildlife. If you are into bird watching this is your nirvana. About 250’ from the pond is the tent site in the shade of the trees which offers another whole ecosystem to watch. Then there are the deer. I stayed May 19-22, 2022 and was privileged enough to observe a fawn feeding from mom about 30’ from me, like I said, immersed in mother nature. You do have to be quite but that is easy since this is the only campsite. The fire pit is next to the pond and is the best place to stargaze, especially after the fire goes out. The gravity chairs lean all the way back for a show better then most planetariums. The outhouse is very clean, well-appointed and maintained. Nothing scary here. It even has a beautiful solar night light. The spring water spigot again is well maintained and appointed. The water taste awesome so I used it for cooking as well as cleaning, no need to bring potable water. There are predators but I was very careful with keeping everything locked up. The only predators I observed were the raptors flying overhead which was OK with me since I was by myself. I cannot recommend Farm to Family’s Tent Camping enough.

Overall it was a really beautiful campsite and the owners were super friendly and great at communicating. I would not recommend going when it’s super rainy or if your car doesn’t have four wheel drive because we could not get our car up to the campsite a few times because of how muddy it was.

Away from it all!
I was greeted at the gate and then led to an outdoor oasis. The property was well maintained. I’d like to keep most of it a surprise for you as it was for me. My favorite part was the sounds and sights around the pond. Would like to venture back there again and try the ice cream next time.

Cathy and Bill made our weekend in Mendocino one of the best car camping experiences we've ever had! Not only is their property beautiful, the campsite they've constructed is well-maintained and thoughtfully appointed. On top of that, Cathy delivered homemade ice cream for my partner's birthday (delicious!) and we were able to take home with us a huge bounty of greens and tomatoes from Cathy's garden at a super reasonable cost. Words don't do justice to just how wonderful our visit was. I hope to come back soon and share this slice of heaven with friends.

I’m not much of a camper but my son has been asking to go on a regular basis. Cathy and Bill’s place was so nice that I might be a camping convert! They were amazing hosts, greeting us and super responsive (not to mention phenomenal ice cream). We all slept really well, set up on their laser leveled site, with zero slope or bumps. Even the toilet was nice! Cathy and Bill have put so much thought and care into every aspect of their place and it shows. Highly recommend.

Wonderful hosts; delicious icecream
Kathy and Bill are wonderful hosts! I opted for the horse and pygmy goat encounter, solar tour, and the ice cream. I loved every moment and truly enjoy the little campsite they've developed. This is a great option for anyone wanting to learn more about off the grid lifestyles or just wanting to get away. You'll be close to Willits and I encourage you to check out their wonderful downtown.

We also took a wonderful tour of their off-grid homestead and met their lovely horses and pygmy goats. They've definitely inspired me to learn more about homesteading. I highly recommend staying here!

Nice campsite - definitely isolated. it should be made clear that the road to the spot is dirt with minimal gravel at the entrance. So if it's raining, which it was for me(heavy rain), this road is difficult to access without reassurance of 4wd. My experience is probably different than most since it was pouring rain the whole time, but i did see a family of deer, and really nice sunrise through the clouds in the morning. The outhouse is nice, and the site itself was well built and did not flood at all.

Awesome camp!
The place was great with a lot of thoughtful touches. The outhouse view with the lavender inside, the spring fed water, the lantern on the table, and the pond! The peacefulness was soothing. Bill and Cathy were attentive hosts even jump starting my truck! The ice cream was tasty too. We will definitely stay again.
