Our place offers a fully operational commercial style communal outdoor kitchen, a small stage, huge redwood, slab dining table, and 14 acres of camping area.

The Stranges are professional fish and wildlife biologists and have decided to share this special place for others to enjoy. The property hosts a diversity of plant and wildlife species that might be observed during your stay. Prehistoric and historic resources can be observed along the river corridor. Please be aware that some wildlife species including rattlesnakes, bears, and mountain lions have been observed on the 117-acre property and could potentially be observed near the campsites.
The Ranch's northern portion of the property supports a leased farming operation. Farming operations should not interfere with camping activities.
Day trips are possible to Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, local caverns and wine tasting, and historic gold towns.

There is NOTHING like being in the wilderness of this area for a good re-centering of the soul! We have found it to be a true blessing for our family, and we hope you can experience this blessing as we share this space with you.
We feel certain you will not be disappointed with our beautiful river canyon. Our property is situated right on the middle fork Cosumnes river. The swimming is awesome and the stars at night will put you into a state of awe!
In the area there are many family owned wineries in the area, most of them offering free tasting! It’s a short drive to Tahoe and the Marshall gold discovery site as well as the historic hangtown Placerville. We are happy to make suggestions for local hiking areas, like the Devil's Slide "Gorge" only a 15 minute drive but like a trip to mini Yosemite. The Caldor Fire was VERY close to our property and a back burn was initiated nearby the our house (literally 200' away!). Our property became a pivotal point of fighting the fire in our community known as the “Ant Hill Army”. Ask us about the story!

We're just a 5-minute walk to the Arnold Rim Trail (with 30+ miles of hiking), 10-minute drive to Big Trees State Park, 15 minutes to the town of Murphys (great wineries, pubs and dining), 40 minutes to Bear Valley Ski Resort, 10 minutes to White Pines Lake, 45 minutes to Lake Alpine. We’re happy to recommend our favorite spots for hiking and swimming. If your trip is taking you farther afield, we’re 2 hours from Yosemite, and 2.5 hours from Lake Tahoe via the less-traveled Highway 4 in warmer months. Or you can can always just relax with a view in the cabin.

Our classic 1970s A-frame cabin offers a simple space of retreat with lovely light, view of the trees and uncluttered decor. Great for couples and also solo travelers! Please note there is a 2 night minimum on weekends (if overlaps with a Fri or Sat) and a 3 night minimum for holiday weekends.

We do our best here to strike a balance between simple amenities and comfort. A reminder that we are in the country, so the cabin is best suited to those who like a more rustic getaway.
There is no AC, television, or microwave. We've gone without a TV and landline, but WiFi means you can stream to your own devices and make WiFi calls on your cell. We have loads of board games and puzzles.
The kitchen has pots/pans/kettle, toaster, mini waffle iron, Brita pitcher, and rice cooker. For coffee drinkers, we have a coffee grinder, french press and pour over dripper. Help yourself to organic coffee and tea!
The cabin is mainly heated by a gas fireplace (looks like a wood stove, but does not need wood). We recommend bringing layers and slippers in the winter while the cabin warms up. Like most cabins in the area, there is no AC, but we provide room fans. Cell reception is unreliable throughout the Sierras except for Verizon, however at the cabin, WiFi calls are available through all carriers --to make calls, enable the setting on your cell phone.
The cabin comfortably fits 4 people, with 1 bedroom, a sleeping loft (no door) and 1.5 bathrooms. The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, and the loft has a full-size mattress and its own half bathroom.
We have a flat parking pad instead of a driveway, which makes things easier in the winter months.
The rental rate covers a professional cleaning fee and linens and towels! Guests will need to take their garbage and recycling with them to the local refuse center which is on the way out.

The cabin has a huge redwood deck surrounded by blooming Dogwoods during the springtime. Our year-round Moran Creek runs on the edge of the property. IAll wood inside: tongue-in-groove pine ceilings and walnut paneling, large wood-burning stove which has three flat places to cook. We offer a fully stocked kitchen with vintage pink and white formica counters and breakfast bar which seats four. Gas barbecue on the back deck. Dining on black resin-topped circular table made by designer of first chair-lift in Squaw Valley. Gigantic redwood wrap-around deck set up with comfy furniture, table and chairs to enjoy the bliss of Big Trees-Calaveras State Park. On the main floor there are two bedrooms: both with queen beds, a full bath with large bathtub/shower; in loft: one queen and one twin, and a 1/2 bath. Extra airbeds are located in the closet. Sofa is down filled. Retro decor with orange glass lamps, kilim rugs and down comforters on all beds. Vintage electric keyboard and full stereo system. Can sleep 7-8. You can enjoy weekend dinners at Snowflake lodge or make use of the
full kitchen or gas barbecue at the cabin. 35" to Bear Valley Ski Area, downhill or cross country, Lake Alpine in Summer. 20" to wine tasting in 1850's historic Murphys. So much to do or not!
Overlook Trail is 1/2 mile from the cabin.
Cabin has access to Snowflake Lodge (weekend dinners), Recreation area (swimming, tennis, basketball, ping-pong, beach volleyball) and Fly-In Lake for lake-swimming.

I loved camping at spot 16! Good view of the river, great spot on top of the hill with port o potty close by! Would definitely come back here again! 5 stars!

3 nights at 4,000 Ft Closer to Heaven
The view from the cabin was striking. You can still see the fireline marking the western edge of the Caldor fire in 2021. Now going on five seasons afterward it is heartening to see the forest begin recovery. Sunset reveals the coastal range in the distance, then darkness brings out both the distant city lights and the stars overhead. It's quite a view. The cabin has a huge comfy bed and a breakfast nook, but we used the picnic table outside for meals. The weather was perfect. You don't expect a flush toilet at a hipcamp site, so that was a nice surprise! Had a very restful couple days that we needed so much.

My daughter, my dog, and I camped at site 4 for the weekend and we absolutely loved it! Tom, the owner, was friendly and informative. The flora and fauna were abundant — so many butterflies and wildflowers! The views were amazing, and unlike most camps I’ve been to, uncluttered with people and human noise. We really felt connected with nature. We both highly recommend it!

Cosumnes Ranch is hands down the coolest place I’ve ever camped. It’s pristine, quiet, and the campsites are spaced a good distance from each other. Hard to find places like this to camp with dogs and we are very grateful the owner’s allow it. You are completely disconnected from the modern world as there are only a few places where you can get cellphone service which is a major bonus for those trying to disconnect from it all. The porta potties are a 1 to 2 minute walk away and they are completely spotless and clean. Can’t wait to return in the summer when the water is calmer and warmer. Thank you so much!

Weekend Trip to Unplug for nature, dogs, and kids
Steven and Michelle thank you for giving us the opportunity to enjoy your beautiful cabin. We read all your previous comments and agree with everyone. The attention to every detail did not go unnoticed. The property is very beautiful and the cabin was outstanding. Our dog loved roaming off leash all weekend. We cooked all our meals outdoors with all the amenities provided. Nights by the fire were amazing with all the stars. We are already planning a larger group with your additional opportunities.

This was the most beautiful, fun, and relaxing experience we’ve had camping so far. The views were amazingly beautiful of the river and mountains, my boyfriend and I were in awe the whole time. Terry was such an amazing host he was very knowledgeable and kind and he made sure we were good and tended to us very well. We will be back over the summer and we can’t wait!

We loved our stay at the Shaded Walnut! We were coming from a long roadtrip and it proved to be just what we needed. We found in Ben a friendly, welcoming host and the site is a shaded spot with a good fire pit, a nearby outhouse, and well water pump. Yet the very best was the abundance of birds. We went to bed and woke up to bird song. Quite magical!

Wonderful experience. Everything including the drive to the property itself was gorgeous. The site was well-maintained and comfortable, right next to the rushing river. Folks who enjoy sleeping with white noise are in for a real treat. We were completely unbothered by other campers, exactly what I was hoping for in a more private camping experience. The only other people my group saw were the one other group of campers leaving and the very kind property manager who had a friendly, brief check-in with us to introduce himself, answer any questions we had, and tell us a bit of interesting facts about the property. The trek to the site follows several connecting dirt roads, not a picnic to drive on but not difficult by any means either. Managed it in a small SUV and sedan with absolutely no issues. No cell service, however there are designated areas marked on the property with signs that you can get service at if needed. Bathrooms were within line of sight of the campsite, close enough to be convenient but far enough to be unobtrusive, and very clean. Be mindful of ticks and check your socks if you go exploring through the grass! Overall a lovely time and exactly the retreat away from overpopulated campgrounds I was hoping for.

Beautiful view of the vineyard and surrounding hills. Aaron was so gracious and gave us a free tasting and told about his wine philosophy and practices. (We bought two bottles). We loved the wine and laid back atmosphere. We were the only ones there and felt completely safe because there is a gate to the property. Aaron gave us the code so we could come and go as we wanted.

We stayed at this campsite recently and overall had a good experience.
The spot itself is beautiful, with a really nice view and a peaceful setting. It’s definitely the kind of place you go to unwind and enjoy nature. That said, getting there was a bit of a challenge. The road is rough and, in our opinion, best suited for a 4WD vehicle, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re planning a visit.
We were able to enjoy the site for about three hours before a thunderstorm rolled in. The weather turned pretty intense, so we ended up staying in our car for the entire night until morning. Not exactly what we had planned, but sometimes that’s part of the adventure.
One of the highlights, though, was the host. They were very communicative and responsive via text (iPhone satellite messaging). When we reached out asking whether we should stay put in the car, they reassured us to do whatever we felt most comfortable with. They even offered to drive up to our site and guide us safely back down, which we really appreciated. That level of care made a big difference.
All in all, it’s a lovely spot with a wonderful host. We just wish the weather had been more favorable so we could have enjoyed it more.
