Property History: At one time, the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains was a thriving center for trade between tribes of the coast and the bay, which we still find evidence of today in cultural sites and artifacts throughout the region. Native people have cared for this land since time immemorial, including the local Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone who are still active in the area today. This property specifically is host to a tributary to one of just a handful of waterways that support salmonids in this region, which are a species of tremendous importance to native people. Over 1000 acres here were eventually purchased by entrepreneur Ridgeway Rowley, who built a home on the ranch in the 1880s as part of an unsuccessful wedding proposal to Fannie Page, daughter of a local mill owner (ever heard of Page Mill Road?) After being rejected by Fannie, Rowley operated the ranch for a decade in conjunction with his work as District Attorney and publisher of the Palo Alto Weekly, before eventually returning to his hometown of Cortland, NY, where he lived as a bachelor until his death. Over the course of the 20th century, the ranch was divided, some parts of which became Pescadero Creek County Park. POST purchased the 350 acre home property, now called Alpine Ranch, in 2012 through our Heart of the Redwoods campaign, an initiative to protect 20,000 acres of Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Alpine Ranch borders Pescadero Creek County Park and Sam McDonald County Park, adding to the area’s protected open space and containing more than a mile of tributaries to Pescadero Creek, which flows year-round and is a major spawning stream for steelhead trout. The Audrey Edna Cabin at Alpine Ranch is situated at one of the property's most scenic overlooks. Weekend Trip to Amaya Creek Redwood Campground

I had originally booked site 1 to be closer to the restroom, but was told that someone that was currently staying there extended their stay. Jing was very prompt & kind to offer us other campsites within the area. We ended staying at Site 3 instead, which actually worked out much better in my honest opinion. It was literally right next to the hiking trail that my buddies went on. However site 3 was advertised as (Near Restroom) but it really isn't. It's a pretty long walk up and down a hill to get it. Luckily we paid for the extra car, which ended up being our vehicle to drive to the restroom. I don't think that would make me not recommend to stay at here. We made it work. Overall our stay was super nice, memories were made with friends & family. The redwoods provided so much shade and we felt cool all day. Not to mention sunset was really nice as well. We walked & drove past the group campsite and probably would plan another stay at that site next time. Thank you for the hospitality! We'll be back!

Beautiful trees surround the group site’s flat ground. But each individual campsite looked pristine, the most south ones especially. Plenty of picnic tables, bathrooms suitable, water food. There’s also 15 min hike straight down to a creek. Gorgeous spot!

Weekend Trip to Camp Rewilding

Skid camp was a perfect spot for off the beaten path, for a quiet night. It’s located very close to Madonna County Park that offers amazing hiking as well as other activities. There is a small fire ring and bench made out of logs. We were able to gather fire wood easily. No bells and whistles, just a freshly skidded road with a campable landing. Recommend 4x4 for much easier access—the drive out off the mountain in the morning was truly beautiful.

Loved everything about Sana and William’s - we were greeted by Meowsicle the cat upon our arrival, we enjoyed beautiful sunsets over the forest and ocean views straight from our tent, and ate farm fresh eggs every morning! We also loved being visited by the friendly goats (who loved chin scratches). Sana and William were both very friendly and helpful whenever we needed them. I would absolutely stay here again.

John was great about sharing all the important details, so there were no surprises…location was ideal for my trip, and to wake up in a beautiful, oak-studded meadow with birds singing all around? Perfection…don’t forget to visit the Felton Baba temple to meditate, stretch, or just BREATHE. Excellent hosts and a beautiful spot, highly recommended!

Weekend Trip to Bear Gulch Hide Out

The views are breathtaking. It is quiet and relaxing! Expect to bring your own toilet so you don't have to leave the ridge when you need to go and refill your water jug at the water station he has at the top (Not for drinking). Very convenient. There's a lot of shade but bring your own awning or EZ up for extra flexibility. He added a picnic table and there's a small bench. If you have a HOWL (portable propane campfire), approve it with him at the time but that's probably the only kind of fire that would be accepted. Definitely bring layers of clothing as it could get either windy and cold during different times of the day. But expect to be relaxed and ready for the week after you are done camping!!!!
