Beaverdam Falls is a rare place for the lack of stone and the centuries of beavers who have left their trace in & on our creek—and swamp, the Stick Marsh, which has an active beaver dam. Be careful! A hidden gem along the Appalachian Trail, Moncove Lake State Park is a small, private park along the border with Virginia’s Jefferson National Forest. Its size means you can walk everywhere within the grounds, and it’s way less crowded than some of the larger, well-known parks in the region. The calm, pristine waters of Moncove Lake reflect gorgeous sunsets on their surface, and both fall and spring visitors will find a Bob Ross painting of colors on display in the surrounding hillsides. The lake is full of trout and walleye for anglers, but the bikini-clad masses take to the park’s public pool for swimming. Want to cool off without getting in the water? Head to historic Lewisburg, where you can descend 120 feet underground at the Lost World Caverns into an expansive wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites.
