There was a dream......come visit to learn more!! Current update: The site is quiet and private and you likely won't see another human unless you go wandering.  The hiking on our 7 acres is brilliant fun, with trails all over - riverside and beyond with excellent trails 5 minutes to 40 or more away -Wander all morning and shoot longbow all afternoon on the target range.  A day well spent!!  There are so many options for outdoor fun here.  Canoeing, hiking, swimming, fishing, and archery totally do-able if these are up your alley.  My chef skills are at the disposal of guests as usual, upon request.  With 12 years of industry experience as a 'back house line cook and chef de partie' I can provide an exceptional meal anytime you need to refuel.  It's peaceful and 'laid back' beyond measure here in Summer - and there's always a cool dip in the river if guests feel like cooling off.  Grayson (your host) has traveled the world many times over, in many countries, and is also a 4rth generation local in the Kaslo/Kootenay area - an Aussie Canadian and something of a paradox!!  So conversation is never boring around here - especially when the mead comes out (made in house and seasonally available).  SKOL!!! It's a 'laid back farm' because despite working the land every day, we try not to push too hard and take it easy enough to enjoy the place. There's prime wildlife viewing by the river and in 'Deerhaven' the forested area down there. The focus is on nature here, so please no quads or dirtbikes ripping around - the "Duncan Lake highway" is just up the road for that sort of thing!! Mosquitoes can be bad at certain peak dates (which change yearly according to conditions) The 'farm' aspect and focus is all on gardens, orchards, and landscaping, no livestock/animals except Mr.Finnegan the Aussie red heeler^^   Things keep changing, and bees are a long-term goal once the orchard is more developed. There is wildcrafting available with a variety of native flora and a free tour to describe what's in season if you'd like to pick your own.  The river level is controlled by the Duncan Dam, and at a high level, there's a private diving board and deck space riverside which is also an amazing place to tan, do yoga, or just relax. At low water the fishing is good and there are good size bull trout in there!! There are trails through forested areas on the property and a new outhouse between the mill shed and river. The riverside area is a wildlife corridor so be prepared to see deer, bears, eagles, osprey, wild turkeys, kingfishers, cedar waxwings, mountain bluebirds, the odd rare coyote/cougar, and possibly elk among others!! Generally, it's pretty quiet, but there are days...... If bears are a concern and you'd rather not have the possibility, camp closer to the mill shed, no worries. All the animals stick close to the river. There's never been any drama with the wildlife and we live in harmony here. The odd grizzly bear shows up, and we keep a close eye on them and take logical precautions. Please be bear aware..... August and September are high alert for grizzly bears as the Kokanee (inland salmon) spawn in the river right here!! So schools of redfish will be swimming around down there - they don't eat while spawning and they're protected, but it's quite a sight to see. The grizzlies tend to head straight to the spawning channel upriver to gorge and we rarely see any here, but it is wise to be aware of the possibility. The river is perfect for swimming and diving in high water, but very cold (glacial runoff) which is amazingly refreshing, but don't count on being in it for hours. There's a ladder for a convenient exit from the water and the diving board is perfect!! There's loads of space for tents down by the river, and a glorious 'sacred grove' full of elderberry trees that's quite a breathtaking tent site. The mill shed has standpipes with clean running water from the well, and it's about the cleanest, freshest water on Earth. Glorious. If you need electricity for charging devices it's available at the cabin, as well as wifi. No wifi by the river, sorry, totally off-grid down there and will remain so. There's also a '9 hole' archery course if this is of interest, max.50# draw and longbows only, please. You're welcome to use the targets free of charge if you're staying the night. As a semi-retired chef, writer, musician, farmer, English teacher, entrepreneur and revolutionary, your host can offer impressive gourmet meals to feed body and soul - made with local organic ingredients and great conscious awareness at an agreed-upon price according to your needs. The garden is full of organic veggies, and there may be fresh venison or wild turkey if you're here in the fall. Please no hunting and no guns if you are a guest.  There are amazing day and multi-day hikes within minutes or hours drive, and as a local of many years, your host can provide excellent advice and directions. The property is 1.5 acres in total set amidst rural surroundings. It is a very quiet and peaceful community set on the shores of the lake and surrounded by magnificent trees and greenery. There is limited bus service about a 20 minute walk away so a car is recommended. We are about a 25 minute drive away from Sidney, where most people will arrive by plane or ferry from the mainland, and also about 25 minutes away from downtown Victoria. The driveway from the street up to the front of our house is a paved sloped driveway and from there the access to the camping site is a sloped and curving dirt road. You don’t need a four-wheel-drive to get up it. We just want to be sure you are aware. The area itself is a level piece of ground to the side of our house. It is approximately 30 ' X 30 ', big enough for a small camper van and a tent. Please note it’s not a camping space like you would find in a provincial park. There’s no picnic bench or fire pit. In any case open flames are not allowed. Portable propane powered camping stoves are fine. We can supply a couple of plastic chairs and a small cocktail sized table. The facilities are comprised of a toilet in a small room in our basement and a utility sink just outside, accessed through the sunroom and down the back stairs. Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash or otherwise kept under control and not allowed to run loose. We have three cats ourselves, and they have access to the sunroom. We are just letting you know in case you are allergic. Also, we might occasionally sit in the sunroom ourselves and we don't mind you passing through on your way to and from the facilities, if you don't mind us being in there on occasion. There is no bath or shower available. You are advised to bring your own face and/or hand towels if needed. You also need to be prepared to take away your own recycling, garbage and organics.

Nature trails for hiking and walking right off the property. There is a well renowned natural rock wall for climbers 3km down the road, there are also a lot of websites that feature these rock walls. Within a half an hour drive you have two easy hikes in waterfalls (the Lower Bugaboo Falls and the Brisco Falls). Spillimacheen has a cafe and also a local market store that is full of delicious treats, beer and wine. The wetlands offer endless bird watching and beautiful mountain views. If you require firewood you must order ahead of your stay. On site purchases are not available. We deliver the bundles the day of your arrival. We currently have 7 dispersed sites. These sites are set up in a ring, each with their own fire pit when there is no fire ban. There are washrooms and showers at our shop just a little hike from the sites. The water is well water and quite soft, but it is potable. The skinny taps in the washrooms do have filtered water There is potable water for washing dishes ( warm and cold) at the taps on the outside of the shop - near the entrance door for the washrooms. We live on the property as well, up on the hill. We want everyone to have a wonderful experience but do also want you to have your privacy. Current update: The site is quiet and private and you likely won't see another human unless you go wandering.  The hiking on our 7 acres is brilliant fun, with trails all over - riverside and beyond with excellent trails 5 minutes to 40 or more away -Wander all morning and shoot longbow all afternoon on the target range.  A day well spent!!  There are so many options for outdoor fun here.  Canoeing, hiking, swimming, fishing, and archery totally do-able if these are up your alley.  My chef skills are at the disposal of guests as usual, upon request.  With 12 years of industry experience as a 'back house line cook and chef de partie' I can provide an exceptional meal anytime you need to refuel.  It's peaceful and 'laid back' beyond measure here in Summer - and there's always a cool dip in the river if guests feel like cooling off.  Grayson (your host) has traveled the world many times over, in many countries, and is also a 4rth generation local in the Kaslo/Kootenay area - an Aussie Canadian and something of a paradox!!  So conversation is never boring around here - especially when the mead comes out (made in house and seasonally available).  SKOL!!! It's a 'laid back farm' because despite working the land every day, we try not to push too hard and take it easy enough to enjoy the place. There's prime wildlife viewing by the river and in 'Deerhaven' the forested area down there. The focus is on nature here, so please no quads or dirtbikes ripping around - the "Duncan Lake highway" is just up the road for that sort of thing!! Mosquitoes can be bad at certain peak dates (which change yearly according to conditions) The 'farm' aspect and focus is all on gardens, orchards, and landscaping, no livestock/animals except Mr.Finnegan the Aussie red heeler^^   Things keep changing, and bees are a long-term goal once the orchard is more developed. There is wildcrafting available with a variety of native flora and a free tour to describe what's in season if you'd like to pick your own.  The river level is controlled by the Duncan Dam, and at a high level, there's a private diving board and deck space riverside which is also an amazing place to tan, do yoga, or just relax. At low water the fishing is good and there are good size bull trout in there!! There are trails through forested areas on the property and a new outhouse between the mill shed and river. The riverside area is a wildlife corridor so be prepared to see deer, bears, eagles, osprey, wild turkeys, kingfishers, cedar waxwings, mountain bluebirds, the odd rare coyote/cougar, and possibly elk among others!! Generally, it's pretty quiet, but there are days...... If bears are a concern and you'd rather not have the possibility, camp closer to the mill shed, no worries. All the animals stick close to the river. There's never been any drama with the wildlife and we live in harmony here. The odd grizzly bear shows up, and we keep a close eye on them and take logical precautions. Please be bear aware..... August and September are high alert for grizzly bears as the Kokanee (inland salmon) spawn in the river right here!! So schools of redfish will be swimming around down there - they don't eat while spawning and they're protected, but it's quite a sight to see. The grizzlies tend to head straight to the spawning channel upriver to gorge and we rarely see any here, but it is wise to be aware of the possibility. The river is perfect for swimming and diving in high water, but very cold (glacial runoff) which is amazingly refreshing, but don't count on being in it for hours. There's a ladder for a convenient exit from the water and the diving board is perfect!! There's loads of space for tents down by the river, and a glorious 'sacred grove' full of elderberry trees that's quite a breathtaking tent site. The mill shed has standpipes with clean running water from the well, and it's about the cleanest, freshest water on Earth. Glorious. If you need electricity for charging devices it's available at the cabin, as well as wifi. No wifi by the river, sorry, totally off-grid down there and will remain so. There's also a '9 hole' archery course if this is of interest, max.50# draw and longbows only, please. You're welcome to use the targets free of charge if you're staying the night. As a semi-retired chef, writer, musician, farmer, English teacher, entrepreneur and revolutionary, your host can offer impressive gourmet meals to feed body and soul - made with local organic ingredients and great conscious awareness at an agreed-upon price according to your needs. The garden is full of organic veggies, and there may be fresh venison or wild turkey if you're here in the fall. Please no hunting and no guns if you are a guest.  There are amazing day and multi-day hikes within minutes or hours drive, and as a local of many years, your host can provide excellent advice and directions. The property is 1.5 acres in total set amidst rural surroundings. It is a very quiet and peaceful community set on the shores of the lake and surrounded by magnificent trees and greenery. There is limited bus service about a 20 minute walk away so a car is recommended. We are about a 25 minute drive away from Sidney, where most people will arrive by plane or ferry from the mainland, and also about 25 minutes away from downtown Victoria. The driveway from the street up to the front of our house is a paved sloped driveway and from there the access to the camping site is a sloped and curving dirt road. You don’t need a four-wheel-drive to get up it. We just want to be sure you are aware. The area itself is a level piece of ground to the side of our house. It is approximately 30 ' X 30 ', big enough for a small camper van and a tent. Please note it’s not a camping space like you would find in a provincial park. There’s no picnic bench or fire pit. In any case open flames are not allowed. Portable propane powered camping stoves are fine. We can supply a couple of plastic chairs and a small cocktail sized table. The facilities are comprised of a toilet in a small room in our basement and a utility sink just outside, accessed through the sunroom and down the back stairs. Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash or otherwise kept under control and not allowed to run loose. We have three cats ourselves, and they have access to the sunroom. We are just letting you know in case you are allergic. Also, we might occasionally sit in the sunroom ourselves and we don't mind you passing through on your way to and from the facilities, if you don't mind us being in there on occasion. There is no bath or shower available. You are advised to bring your own face and/or hand towels if needed. You also need to be prepared to take away your own recycling, garbage and organics.

Learn more about this land: Our campsite is located along the beautiful Spillimacheen River, in Spillimacheen BC which is 20mins south of Golden BC and 30mins north of Radium Hot Springs BC. This property is very secluded and surrounded by crown land. It’s the perfect property to disconnect and reconnect, with limited cell service this allows you to turn off and just enjoy being outside in nature. Campers can choose where to park along a large cleared area. There are designated campfire locations and an outhouse. From the property, you can Kayak down the river, please Google and research before launching as there are a lot of writes ups and kayaking websites that feature the Spillimacheen River. Nature trails for hiking and walking right off the property. There is a well renowned natural rock wall for climbers 3km down the road, there are also a lot of websites that feature these rock walls. Within a half an hour drive you have two easy hikes in waterfalls (the Lower Bugaboo Falls and the Brisco Falls). Spillimacheen has a cafe and also a local market store that is full of delicious treats, beer and wine. The wetlands offer endless bird watching and beautiful mountain views. If you require firewood you must order ahead of your stay. On site purchases are not available. We deliver the bundles the day of your arrival. We were the first people to live on this land and have built everything you see since 2017. When we arrived there were no trees on the property and we have planted some in the campsites which are quite small but will one day be large and mighty. Enjoy 20 beautiful acres just 5 minutes out of Vernon. Close proximity to Kal Lake, Swan Lake and Lake Okanagan. Fantastic hiking trails, biking trails, and watersports close by. We currently have 7 dispersed sites. These sites are set up in a ring, each with their own fire pit when there is no fire ban. There are washrooms and showers at our shop just a little hike from the sites. The water is well water and quite soft, but it is potable. The skinny taps in the washrooms do have filtered water There is potable water for washing dishes ( warm and cold) at the taps on the outside of the shop - near the entrance door for the washrooms. We live on the property as well, up on the hill. We want everyone to have a wonderful experience but do also want you to have your privacy. There was a dream......come visit to learn more!! Current update: The site is quiet and private and you likely won't see another human unless you go wandering.  The hiking on our 7 acres is brilliant fun, with trails all over - riverside and beyond with excellent trails 5 minutes to 40 or more away -Wander all morning and shoot longbow all afternoon on the target range.  A day well spent!!  There are so many options for outdoor fun here.  Canoeing, hiking, swimming, fishing, and archery totally do-able if these are up your alley.  My chef skills are at the disposal of guests as usual, upon request.  With 12 years of industry experience as a 'back house line cook and chef de partie' I can provide an exceptional meal anytime you need to refuel.  It's peaceful and 'laid back' beyond measure here in Summer - and there's always a cool dip in the river if guests feel like cooling off.  Grayson (your host) has traveled the world many times over, in many countries, and is also a 4rth generation local in the Kaslo/Kootenay area - an Aussie Canadian and something of a paradox!!  So conversation is never boring around here - especially when the mead comes out (made in house and seasonally available).  SKOL!!! It's a 'laid back farm' because despite working the land every day, we try not to push too hard and take it easy enough to enjoy the place. There's prime wildlife viewing by the river and in 'Deerhaven' the forested area down there. The focus is on nature here, so please no quads or dirtbikes ripping around - the "Duncan Lake highway" is just up the road for that sort of thing!! Mosquitoes can be bad at certain peak dates (which change yearly according to conditions) The 'farm' aspect and focus is all on gardens, orchards, and landscaping, no livestock/animals except Mr.Finnegan the Aussie red heeler^^   Things keep changing, and bees are a long-term goal once the orchard is more developed. There is wildcrafting available with a variety of native flora and a free tour to describe what's in season if you'd like to pick your own.  The river level is controlled by the Duncan Dam, and at a high level, there's a private diving board and deck space riverside which is also an amazing place to tan, do yoga, or just relax. At low water the fishing is good and there are good size bull trout in there!! There are trails through forested areas on the property and a new outhouse between the mill shed and river. The riverside area is a wildlife corridor so be prepared to see deer, bears, eagles, osprey, wild turkeys, kingfishers, cedar waxwings, mountain bluebirds, the odd rare coyote/cougar, and possibly elk among others!! Generally, it's pretty quiet, but there are days...... If bears are a concern and you'd rather not have the possibility, camp closer to the mill shed, no worries. All the animals stick close to the river. There's never been any drama with the wildlife and we live in harmony here. The odd grizzly bear shows up, and we keep a close eye on them and take logical precautions. Please be bear aware..... August and September are high alert for grizzly bears as the Kokanee (inland salmon) spawn in the river right here!! So schools of redfish will be swimming around down there - they don't eat while spawning and they're protected, but it's quite a sight to see. The grizzlies tend to head straight to the spawning channel upriver to gorge and we rarely see any here, but it is wise to be aware of the possibility. The river is perfect for swimming and diving in high water, but very cold (glacial runoff) which is amazingly refreshing, but don't count on being in it for hours. There's a ladder for a convenient exit from the water and the diving board is perfect!! There's loads of space for tents down by the river, and a glorious 'sacred grove' full of elderberry trees that's quite a breathtaking tent site. The mill shed has standpipes with clean running water from the well, and it's about the cleanest, freshest water on Earth. Glorious. If you need electricity for charging devices it's available at the cabin, as well as wifi. No wifi by the river, sorry, totally off-grid down there and will remain so. There's also a '9 hole' archery course if this is of interest, max.50# draw and longbows only, please. You're welcome to use the targets free of charge if you're staying the night. As a semi-retired chef, writer, musician, farmer, English teacher, entrepreneur and revolutionary, your host can offer impressive gourmet meals to feed body and soul - made with local organic ingredients and great conscious awareness at an agreed-upon price according to your needs. The garden is full of organic veggies, and there may be fresh venison or wild turkey if you're here in the fall. Please no hunting and no guns if you are a guest.  There are amazing day and multi-day hikes within minutes or hours drive, and as a local of many years, your host can provide excellent advice and directions. Absolutely phenomenal experience. Claire provided clear, thoughtful, and detailed instructions and information every step of the way, from our questions prior to booking, to the instruction booklets on site that ensured a stress free stay. The property itself was very easy to find and navigate, and the treehouse was absolutely magical. You can feel the love and care that the hosts have put into the property in every detail, and we felt as though they covered every aspect of comfort we could possibly ask for, providing plenty of wood, blankets, and simple, but much appriciated amentities. The treehouse is also within comfortable walking distance from the parking area but is still private, which allows for the most breathtaking and scerene viewing of the mountains and birds in the area. I can't say that I have ever stayed somewhere that has compared to this, and would easily choose this experience over any luxury hotel, even considering our snowy morning. Our only regret is that we only stayed one night, and would definitely recommend booking two or more nights so you can take advantage of the hiking trails and appreciate it too it's full extent!!

We loved tent camping on Paul's property, we drove around and looked at every site and ended up picking site 8 for it's privacy and cute little pond area, though we would have been ecstatic with any of the sites as they were all private and tidy. Boyd and Ace (resident campers we ran into) were also very kind and Ace was fun to pet! (He's a dog haha) the ocean was walking distance away which was also very nice. Paul even offered to deliver firewood to us and build us a cozy campfire! Would definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for a secluded, private, clean place to camp. We'll definitely be back next year!

Oh my god, what a lovely experience! As a LOTR nerd, I was delighted at the theme. :) The site was peaceful and quiet, the doggies were so friendly and welcoming, and every detail was thoughtfully designed. For me, this was capital G glamping. There was a very clean flushing toilet outhouse with all amenities you’d need, the shower was so amazing - think, steamy cedar, cool island air, fresh fluffy towels. The outdoor kitchen with organic coffee, spearmint tea, and yummy cookies in the morning was truly next level fancy shmancy. The tent was amazing: clean, cozy, and warm, beautifully designed in art nouveau fashion. We slept like logs! 100% worth it, and a great value! I sure hope to be back one day for longer!

We came in after hours and the instructions said "head straight to campsite". We had been assigned a different spot -- the note was just on the front door of the main lodge. Nowhere on my instructions did it say to check with the main lodge if it was after hours. We figured it out quick enough though. And the rest of the site was nice.
