We bought this property in 2008 as raw land with an old off-grid 1950's cabin on it. While the log structure was sound, the cabin needed some major renovations to be liveable. We undertook renovations, lived in it for 6 months and then moved into a yurt on a more accessible section of our property. We now run the cabin as a short term rental, have another small rental next to our house and we are using the yurt for gatherings, retreats and yoga classes!

So Cozy!
What an amazing stay we had at the For-rest Retreat cabin! The short .7KM walk from the parking area makes it feel like you’re really out in the woods. The cabin was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking and cozying up by the wood stove fireplace at night. There were plenty of board games to keep us entertained but there’s cell signal as well if you don’t want to disconnect completely. There are also quite a few hiking trails on the property which were fun to explore. Our favorites were Sneaky Slabs and Ridge Line (lower). Can’t wait to come back!

Johanna's Keystone campsite is an easy accessible spot to spend the night. It is close to the hwy so expect some road noise during the day. The property is wooded and has walking trails on the hillside.

Beautiful large site with privacy
This was a great spot that was secluded from the other camp sites so there was plenty of privacy! Our lot was large and we had everything we needed. I especially like their policy on packing the food out, keeping the property free of garbage and less animal attraction to your site. Salmo is minutes away to discard garbage and can easily pick up more ice. The ground is close to rivers and the US border. We enjoyed our nature home away from home. Our hosts are super lovely and accommodating and quick with response if you had any inquiries or needed anything.

Kootenay Hidden Gem!
Such a great place to camp! The trails were exceptionally well mapped, and just gorgeous.
We happened to be there during a concert event, and we were welcomed to join - that was such an unexpected bonus! Local craft beer and wood fired pizza too! Just a wonderful few days.
The outhouse was fabulous, a great design, with no/minimal odours. The floor seems to be sagging a little bit, so beware!
We would love to come and camp here again, we absolutely loved Salmo.

Solitude and Peace
A very private site that offers peace and solitude. We needed a place just like this to unwind from crossing Canada. Salmo is just down the road for groceries or a good coffee. Water is on site, great walking trails, and a beautiful sunrise every morning over the mountains. The Zen Garden set the vibe, this place is awesome.

Lived up to expectations, beautiful place with berries around. Nice privacy and a nice fire pit, toilet was especially awesome. A bit of mosquitos so remember mosquito spray and there was some noise from the road but didn't bother us

Perfect getaway in Salmo
We loved the campsite on Johanna's beautiful property. Although we have camped most of our lives (in a tent) this was our first experience using Hipcamp and our first 3 night experience in our new (but old :P) rv. It had been raining a bit and the ground was pretty wet and not being experienced we were a little nervous about driving over the small bit of field to the site but it was absolutely fine, even after three days and some good rain the night before we left. The site itself is large, private and level with lovely views of the mountains. There is water very close by (although we didn't use it) and one of the nicest and cleanest outhouses ever (which we did use!) also just several paces away. We brought our high energy 8 month old puppy with us and what a bonus having a field next to the site to play in with him. We also made much use of the hiking trail loops that Johanna has created on their property. Our minds were blown as to how well done they are and perfect for going out for a couple of hours up the mountain. We used them a lot and always noticed something new and beautiful. Also lots of very fresh bear poop so take precautions both hiking and around your site. The campsite has a nice big fire pit and a sturdy picnic table. The secondary highway is not too far off and at times you can hear traffic sounds but very quiet at night. Not a problem at all but something to be aware of. We will certainly return!

Keystone Cabin in The Kootenays
First experience with HipCamp and definitely a good one!
The cabin was very well stocked with kitchen stuff, lights, blankets, lots to make our stay comfortable. We had added fire wood and had plenty to keep us warm the whole time. Explored the surrounding trails and could even walk to Salmo via the rail trail.
Johanna’s instructions were super clear and communication easy.
Great spot if you’re looking for an accessible getaway :)

Spectacular
We had a great time at Keystone, the hosts were so kind and communicative, it's a beautiful property and very conveniently located close to Salmo and not far off from Ymir and Nelson. Pretty easy to spot from the highway. You can hear cars on the highway from the campsites, but it gets pretty quiet at night and it didn't bother us at all. There were a few very sweet dogs on the property while we were there as well and we very much appreciated such a welcoming atmosphere. Oh, and the pit toilet is the best I've ever seen!
