North Stradbroke Island adventures start here for fun-loving campers.
Car ferries and water taxis cruising out from Brisbane to North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) arrive at the lively port town of Dunwich on the northwest shore. As the island’s largest town, it’s the perfect place to dive into island life—admire the views along the old jetty, visit the North Stradbroke Island Museum, then join locals for a swim at nearby Brown Lake. Dunwich makes a strategic basecamp for campers visiting Straddie, too. The two waterfront camping grounds both have powered sites, there are glamping sites for rent, and the town provides plenty of amenities and restaurant options. If you prefer to escape the crowds, take your pick of beachfront campgrounds along Minjerribah’s northern beaches, where you’ll find powered caravan sites, tent sites, cabins, and glamping tents. Wherever you stay, you won’t be far from the island’s beaches, where you can surf, snorkel with manta rays, and spot whales from the shore.
