I was told that as I journeyed around Australia I would find a place to settle and Maryvale on the Darling Downs was love at first sight. I am happy to share my love for this property and welcome travellers to enjoy the tranquillity of the riverside and enjoy some of the walks and other features of the area. Welcome to She-oak Hideaway, located in Maryvale by the riverside. The riverside is a peaceful place with two large camping areas and firepits. There are 2 large waterholes suitable for swimming, fishing and kayaking. Down by the riverside you will see Water dragons, turtles, ducks, swamp hens, many birds, occasional Wallabies and Koala. Most afternoons the local Rikali (Australias Otter) can be seen diving for Yabbies. We are an 11 minute drive to the very popular Main range national Park which has some beautiful hiking trails and is the perfect place for a picnic. We have a great country pub close by as well which is a short walk down a country lane. Pets are welcome but please ensure they are under your control and that you clean up after them. Campers must be self sufficient with their own toilet. Rubbish bins are provided for campers and a treated rain water tap is available. Kayaks and life jackets are available on request. 1 - 10 Amp power connection is also available on request. Firewood can be purchased for $15 a bag or $20 for a wheelbarrow full. The campsite is situated on the beach, sheltered by the sheoaks in the back dunes. At the rear of the campsite lies a freshwater lagoon, locally known as the keyholes. Currently, there are four sites available to be booked. There is a camp kitchen with a two gas burner, all pots and pans, plates and cutlery with table and chairs to sit at. There is also a big esky there to use for either your food or drinks. Fresh water is provided in twenty litre drums. The bush shower works on the keg being heated up just like a kettle. Once it is hot then a nice warm shower is to be had to wash off all the salt from the ocean. There is also two compost toilets for your convenience. A unique feature includes the opportunity for surfing, fishing, and swimming in your private lagoon. A short drive will take you to Point Lookout. 10 minutes and you are at the pub mixing with the locals. Access is via the beach only and tides are a consideration. Please check "Point Lookout tides" on Willy Weather. I don't normally travel on the beach if the tide is over 1.5 metres. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is required. Camper trailers can be brought in as they are light. Caravans are not permitted due to the tight turning circles.

We loved camping at Lakeview! We were camped in Area 5 right on the beautiful sandy lake. The grandkids and our Labrador loved being able to wander in for a dip to cool down. The slip and slide was a big hit with both the big and little kids 😁. Beautiful flat grassy campsite. Lots of activities with canoes and kayaks available for use and playground.

We stayed in 1A. The outlook was fabulous. It seemed as if the facilities had been let go a bit - pool table felt torn, picnic and outbuildings were a bit dirty and unkept and the kayaks had their own issues 😂. But, overall, for a family camp close to Brisbane, it was 5 stars!!!

21 nights at The Magic Pond

Absolutely lovely spot right next to the dam. Light breeze most days. Space between campers. Maintained by wonderful hosts who weren't intrusive but did come down to check on us on occasion (we were here in the big supercell storm!) Couple of things to point out to future campers. Is there some machinery and stuff on the property like said in another review, yes. Does it effect your view and experience, NO. This is a working property, not a holiday resort. All equipment is with the owners main house and nowhere near the campsites. And also, bring mozzie spray. Like anywhere near water after dark the mozzies do come out as they always do. It also shares a fence with another hipcamp property next door so there are other ppl around but I don't think it effects your stay as everyone on both sides are respectful of their surroundings. All in all I think this was a gem to discover and we will definitely be booking again. Thanks Mitch n Hollie for their lovely hospitality n opening their home to us all.
