Welcome to SLEEPY HOLLOW MANOR ESTATE, A family farm Acting under the state government agricultural tourism reform allowing primary producers and livestock farms such as us on RU2 property to have visitors.
As part of this we have to follow some simple protocol! Unfortunately, we have had some issues with local council which now monitor our movements closely and we ask that you follow these simple rules extremely closely failure to do may cause us to reject your booking and may incur penalties to both of us as the landholders and also the camper.
1. STRICTLY No Caravans, RV's, Tents or Any Camping site is to be set up within 50 meters of the creek.
2. No more that 20 people camping on the property at one time.
3. Zero impact to the land and surrounds treat it like you would a national park.
4. All waste must be bagged and taken off site with you.

Enjoyed our time, beautiful scenery, close to beach in Pottsville. Creek at this particular time (Jan 2026) was not flowing well enough that I would like to sit in to cool off as the cows travel through and I just didn’t feel comfortable. Found the instructions a little overwhelming, lots there to read and understand. All common sense with respecting others property. I would recommend, to tick off your list but we won’t be returning as there’s so much out there to see. Found price quite up there, I assume due to being highly rated. Thank you for letting us enjoy your property.

We absolutely loved our stay at Sleepy Hollow Manor Estate – Platypus Creek. Such a peaceful, quiet spot that felt wonderfully secluded and relaxing from the moment we arrived.
Tom met us on arrival and was incredibly welcoming, taking the time to show us a few great camping locations so we could choose the perfect spot. The creek was beautiful, a real highlight, and added to the calm, natural feel of the property.
The location is fantastic, especially if you enjoy being active. It’s so close to the Tweed Rail Trail, which made it ideal for our bike rides and runs, but still felt tucked away and tranquil back at camp.
If you’re looking for a quiet, nature filled escape with a thoughtful host and easy access to outdoor adventures, this place is a gem. We’d happily stay again.

This was our first ever hipcamp. Had a great time with the family at Sleepy Hollow. The kids loved the cows and the rope swings and there was plenty of open space for them to play. The property is excellently maintained and Tom was friendly and a fantastic host. Will absolutely come back.

What a beautiful camp spot not to far from the Gold Coast, a perfect distance to 'get away into nature', without spending too much time on the road! It was well sheltered, lots of shade and by a trickling little creek.
Tom and his family were very welcoming and easy going. They checked on us, letting us know where there was fire wood, toilets and bins. At the time, Tom was concerned for the wellbeing of his mother (who was in hospital) but was still there for all his campers. We were very grateful and felt the care for ensuing things ran as smoothly as possible for others in the face of personal affairs. Thank you!

We loved camping at Platypus Creek at Sleepy Hollow. The spot was beautifully mowed. It is a peaceful location with a pretty outlook. We enjoyed when the cows came around our spot. Tom checked on us each day and we were able to purchase some firewood on site. Each night we enjoyed a campfire and the stars were amazing. We have our own shower and made use of the portaloos. Don't forget your toilet paper. The proximity to the beach is great. We could pop down and swim but then retreat to our lovely peaceful campsite.

The best waterside camping near Murwillumbah guide
Where to go
Springbrook National Park
Just over the state border in Queensland, north of Murwillumbah, this impressive national park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area and houses lush ancient rainforest and impressive waterfalls. There are facilities for permitted tents and camper trailers at the Settlement Campground (think toilets and barbecues but no showers), but wild bush camping is not allowed in the park.
Lamington National Park
Northeast of Murwillumbah and beside the smaller Springbrook, Lamington National Park is also a part of the Gondwana World Heritage Area and offers many of the same features as Springbrook. There are, however, many more opportunities to camp here. The well-equipped O’Reilly’s Campground has tent and caravan sites as well as safari tents and ensuite pods, and various bush camping sites throughout the park can only be reached on foot. Bush camps are closed in December and January.
Byron Bay
A popular coastal town just 50 kilometres southeast of Murwillumbah, Byron Bay draws campers road-tripping through northern NSW who might want to stop at both places. Travellers come here for the beaches and for the alternative hippie lifestyle and activities. You can surf, hike, and practice yoga by day while staying the night at unpowered beachside camps or luxurious glamping pods, and everything in between.
When to go
Murwillumbah is located in northern New South Wales, which has a subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and wet, mild winters. As most travellers are drawn to Murwillumbah to enjoy outdoor adventures in the surrounding parks, spring and autumn are the best times to visit, when temperatures are still warm but not as hot as in the summer. In some national parks, campsites are closed in the middle of summer in December and February.
