Platypus Waterhole is rented out as one site exclusive to the booking. This exclusivity allows our guests complete privacy. We are located on a cattle property less that two hours out of the rush and business of cities. Our camping site is suitable for groups up to 20 people.
The camp site is close to two creeks, Blackheath Creek and Little Stoney Creek where the protected Platypus are frequently seen, along with our wombats and kangaroos.
Cox’s River is a ten minute drive suitable for swimming and fishing.
We have a compost toilet, outdoor shower (restricted water) covered camp kitchen with tap water from tank, BBQ, fire pit indoors/outdoors, table, chairs, sleeping area, tent area,
shade trees, picturesque site.
. We charge all guests a one-off exclusivity site fee. This applies to all guests whether you book one night or seven nights. You need to add this to your booking.
This is an exclusive private camping area on the beautiful Blackheath Creek.
The camping area has a fantastic shelter/camp kitchen with internal fireplace, wood fired stove, sink, running water & a preparation area together with a gas BBQ & large dining table with bench seats.
There is hot water and an open air shower. A long drop toilet is located nearby. At night the shelter is lit by solar powered lights & the glow of the campfire. The shelter is accessible by 4WD. Dogs are not permitted. Limited firewood is provided.
Firewood can be purchased at $50 for a generous bundle. It is not possible to know how much firewood is required for your stay so during winter please take this into consideration.

PHONES: Phone reception is good, there is a Telstra exchange on the property.
ROADS: Roads around the sites are unsealed, but most normal cars and the average SUV handle it okay. The road down into the Megalong Valley is tar sealed, very scenic but winding.
ICE: Bring your own ice
WOOD: Timber for fires can be purchased at reception. We are an environmental biodiversity precinct so don’t permit damage to vegetation.

SHOPS: The township of Blackheath is 15klm away up on the Gt Western Hwy, none in the Valley
SHADE: Plenty of shady areas
WATER: We are on town water
TOILETS there are 3 men's and 3 women's, plus 8 at reception, plus 3 in pioneer and 3 in corner paddock
SHOWERS: 3 gas hot water showers in men's, 3 in women's, plus 2 in Lodge
NOISE: Shutdown time for music is 10pm - no exceptions! but you can still enjoy the fires - quietly.

We are requiring ALL vehicles to get registered PRIOR to going up to the site, resulting from so many vehicles trespassing at the venue and causing nuisances for other campers

We must also remind campers that this is not a venue for noisy partying as we are a quiet wilderness environmental zone. We do not tolerate it and will remove offenders. Other campers treasure the peace and quiet.

There are a few great campsites to choose from- all 2WD accessible. 1 at the top of the property (good for families/large groups up to approx 20) with good flat ground and surrounded by a lush forest. It's close to the quiet country road so it is easy access in and out, another 2 at the back with water views and 1 in the forest (Only if you have 4wd and portable loo we can give you an exclusive spot in the bottom of the golden gorge). Sit back and relax around the campfire whilst toasting a marshmallow or some damper.
This campsite offers a unique heptagonal toilet (no shower yet but its on the way). Please ensure you're fully self sufficient with all other supplies (including water).
From here you can explore the amazing Blue Mountain views, marvel at a magical glow worm dell, check out the 2 apple cider breweries or gin distillery and taste some of the region's delicious produce.
Colo River is 30 mins away, a clear waterhole is 10 min drive (4wd only- hosts can transport if available), the mouth of a hiking trail to the National Park is on the property, the main township of Bilpin is close by with the baker, fruit and veggie picking, Mountain Bells Cafe (host recommendation), apple pies galore and Melange restaurant , the markets are on Saturday morning 10-12 noon at the local hall and there is a free meditation group 9am Sunday at the monastery.
With so much to do you will need more than one night or plan a return visit to the amazing Mountain Lagoon Hideaway at Bilpin!
We can also offer massage and reiki treatments on site as a 'nature immersion' experience or if you prefer it can be in the privacy of a massage studio (10 mins away), guided nature and wildlife walks/sunset walks or longer hikes, professional ecology tours, fire twirling lessons or performance and African drumming lessons, games for the kids, local produce hampers, eggs and BBQS (with notice and if hosts are available). Rocklee is 2.5 hours from Sydney and Dubbo, and a short drive to swimming at Turon and Coorongooba National Parks, sightseeing at Glen Davis, bird watching near Glen Alice and the terrific cafe ‘From the Paddock’.
Access is 4wd only. (We’re serious!)
Our road has ‘roll overs’, rocks and a couple of tight turns on large gradients) on so you need a vehicle with 20cm+ clearance.
If you are towing a camper trailer, you need a good 4wd engine to get back up the hill confidently.
Each campsite is a VERY long way from other sites - usually about 800m.
Rocklee has a mix of no-longer used paddocks and about 950 acres of untouched bush.
You will arrive through the conservation area, which has beautiful pagodas and endless bushwalks. Rocklee is a good site for star gazing.
Hipcampers can choose from plenty of space where they'd like to set up camp.
Please be careful as some paddocks are overgrown, fences have come down and there are lots of wombat holes, so drive slowly and be careful.
There are no amenities here, campers need to be self contained and leave no trace. This means you need to bring water, use exisiing fireplaces and take your rubbish, recycling and compost with you.
(You need to bring water from home or elsewhere on the way. Please note you cannot fill up free tap water at Capertee - either at the BP, the picnic area or the pub. It just doesn’t rain enough to fill up the tanks. Sorry!)

The camp site is close to two creeks, Blackheath Creek and Little Stoney Creek where the protected Platypus are frequently seen, along with our wombats and kangaroos.
Cox’s River is a ten minute drive suitable for swimming and fishing.
We have a compost toilet, outdoor shower (restricted water) covered camp kitchen with tap water from tank, BBQ, fire pit indoors/outdoors, table, chairs, sleeping area, tent area,
shade trees, picturesque site.
. We charge all guests a one-off exclusivity site fee. This applies to all guests whether you book one night or seven nights. You need to add this to your booking.
This is an exclusive private camping area on the beautiful Blackheath Creek.
The camping area has a fantastic shelter/camp kitchen with internal fireplace, wood fired stove, sink, running water & a preparation area together with a gas BBQ & large dining table with bench seats.
There is hot water and an open air shower. A long drop toilet is located nearby. At night the shelter is lit by solar powered lights & the glow of the campfire. The shelter is accessible by 4WD. Dogs are not permitted. Limited firewood is provided.
Firewood can be purchased at $50 for a generous bundle. It is not possible to know how much firewood is required for your stay so during winter please take this into consideration.

PHONES: Phone reception is good, there is a Telstra exchange on the property.
ROADS: Roads around the sites are unsealed, but most normal cars and the average SUV handle it okay. The road down into the Megalong Valley is tar sealed, very scenic but winding.

WOOD: Timber for fires can be purchased at reception. We are an environmental biodiversity precinct so don’t permit damage to vegetation.
FIRES: Plenty of existing fire spots
SHOPS: The township of Blackheath is 15klm away up on the Gt Western Hwy, none in the Valley
SHADE: Plenty of shady areas
WATER: We are on town water
TOILETS there are 3 men's and 3 women's, plus 8 at reception, plus 3 in pioneer and 3 in corner paddock
SHOWERS: 3 gas hot water showers in men's, 3 in women's, plus 2 in Lodge
NOISE: Shutdown time for music is 10pm - no exceptions! but you can still enjoy the fires - quietly.

We must also remind campers that this is not a venue for noisy partying as we are a quiet wilderness environmental zone. We do not tolerate it and will remove offenders. Other campers treasure the peace and quiet.

There are a few great campsites to choose from- all 2WD accessible. 1 at the top of the property (good for families/large groups up to approx 20) with good flat ground and surrounded by a lush forest. It's close to the quiet country road so it is easy access in and out, another 2 at the back with water views and 1 in the forest (Only if you have 4wd and portable loo we can give you an exclusive spot in the bottom of the golden gorge). Sit back and relax around the campfire whilst toasting a marshmallow or some damper.
This campsite offers a unique heptagonal toilet (no shower yet but its on the way). Please ensure you're fully self sufficient with all other supplies (including water).
From here you can explore the amazing Blue Mountain views, marvel at a magical glow worm dell, check out the 2 apple cider breweries or gin distillery and taste some of the region's delicious produce.
Colo River is 30 mins away, a clear waterhole is 10 min drive (4wd only- hosts can transport if available), the mouth of a hiking trail to the National Park is on the property, the main township of Bilpin is close by with the baker, fruit and veggie picking, Mountain Bells Cafe (host recommendation), apple pies galore and Melange restaurant , the markets are on Saturday morning 10-12 noon at the local hall and there is a free meditation group 9am Sunday at the monastery.
With so much to do you will need more than one night or plan a return visit to the amazing Mountain Lagoon Hideaway at Bilpin!
We can also offer massage and reiki treatments on site as a 'nature immersion' experience or if you prefer it can be in the privacy of a massage studio (10 mins away), guided nature and wildlife walks/sunset walks or longer hikes, professional ecology tours, fire twirling lessons or performance and African drumming lessons, games for the kids, local produce hampers, eggs and BBQS (with notice and if hosts are available). Rocklee is 2.5 hours from Sydney and Dubbo, and a short drive to swimming at Turon and Coorongooba National Parks, sightseeing at Glen Davis, bird watching near Glen Alice and the terrific cafe ‘From the Paddock’.
Access is 4wd only. (We’re serious!)
Our road has ‘roll overs’, rocks and a couple of tight turns on large gradients) on so you need a vehicle with 20cm+ clearance.
If you are towing a camper trailer, you need a good 4wd engine to get back up the hill confidently.
Each campsite is a VERY long way from other sites - usually about 800m.
Rocklee has a mix of no-longer used paddocks and about 950 acres of untouched bush.
You will arrive through the conservation area, which has beautiful pagodas and endless bushwalks. Rocklee is a good site for star gazing.
Hipcampers can choose from plenty of space where they'd like to set up camp.
Please be careful as some paddocks are overgrown, fences have come down and there are lots of wombat holes, so drive slowly and be careful.
There are no amenities here, campers need to be self contained and leave no trace. This means you need to bring water, use exisiing fireplaces and take your rubbish, recycling and compost with you.
(You need to bring water from home or elsewhere on the way. Please note you cannot fill up free tap water at Capertee - either at the BP, the picnic area or the pub. It just doesn’t rain enough to fill up the tanks. Sorry!)

This was our first time staying out at Megalong Valley Farm, after a long hiatus from camping. We were so spoilt! The options for camp spots was fantastic. Plenty of space to find a private location. The views were incredible, as were the facilities. Watching horses, donkeys, alpacas and kangaroos enjoy the paddocks with us was a highlight. We will definitely make the farm one of our regular getaways, especially being so close to Sydney. Thanks for having us!

We were camping for the very first time, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience here. Gary and all the team members were kind and incredibly supportive and helped us in every way possible, making our stay comfortable and stress free. We loved their hospitality. The toilets were very clean and well maintained, and the whole place felt peaceful and relaxing. It truly made our first camping trip memorable.

It was such an easy process to check in and such a sweet kitty there to help :) The grass was relatively dry although it had rained earlier and the views are amazing! He also gave me some awesome trail recommendations.

A great private spot to camp. Unlike many other Hipcamps it has a huge undercover area with a very large indoor fireplace and outdoor firepit. Wombats were there as well as platypus. It has a long winding driveway to the campsite but no worries if you have a 4WD. The hosts were great and met us on arrival and communicated with us during our stay. Truly a magical spot. Would love to come back when we are in the area again.

Well maintained amenities block.
Tip: If you come in through the gate on Ross st at the bottom of the hill, (which is ideal for caravans) make sure you don’t camp up beyond the line of buildings where the amenities block is. Even though there are power boxes up the hill on the right, that’s a no-go zone. But that’s not obvious from that entry gate. You only see the sign when you come through the Ross st gate up the hill.

Sharon’s place is a little slice of peaceful paradise. My family and I stayed over the weekend and were blown away by how beautiful and quiet it was. A gorgeous stream flows through the place, and the covered area with a kitchen had everything we needed. A true gem! We 100% recommend it and would absolutely love to come back 😊

Great spot very private. Breathtaking views, clean and unspoiled. Great communication and detailed instructions from the host.
Drive down is no joke, properly offgrid no reception or facilities. If that’s how like it it’s the best within 3hrs of Sydney.
