4WD only (clearance of 20cm+ needed). Rocklee is on Wiradjuri land, a short drive from Capertee, surrounded by Gardens of Stone and Capertee national parks and the Mugii Murrum-ban State Conservation Area. Rocklee is 2.5 hours from Sydney and Dubbo, and a short drive to swimming at Turon and Coorongooba National Parks, sightseeing at Glen Davis, bird watching near Glen Alice and the terrific cafe ‘From the Paddock’. Access is 4wd only. (We’re serious!) Our road has ‘roll overs’, rocks and a couple of tight turns on large gradients) on so you need a vehicle with 20cm+ clearance. If you are towing a camper trailer, you need a good 4wd engine to get back up the hill confidently. Each campsite is a VERY long way from other sites - usually about 800m. Rocklee has a mix of no-longer used paddocks and about 950 acres of untouched bush. You will arrive through the conservation area, which has beautiful pagodas and endless bushwalks. Rocklee is a good site for star gazing. Hipcampers can choose from plenty of space where they'd like to set up camp. Please be careful as some paddocks are overgrown, fences have come down and there are lots of wombat holes, so drive slowly and be careful. There are no amenities here, campers need to be self contained and leave no trace. This means you need to bring water, use exisiing fireplaces and take your rubbish, recycling and compost with you. (You need to bring water from home or elsewhere on the way. Please note you cannot fill up free tap water at Capertee - either at the BP, the picnic area or the pub. It just doesn’t rain enough to fill up the tanks. Sorry!)

This site as a ‘party paddock’ is available on request (so we can block out other bookings so you have the place to yourself). The price is per person. You can bring a generator, water, music etc. This spot has great views of Genowlan Point, to watch the sunrise over. It's a large open paddock, great for lots of friends. It has good afternoon shade and a lot of flat grassed area. It just east of our creek bed (which unfortunately only gets water after rain). It is by a falling-apart shearing shed - so please dont enter that. It is just by an old half-built home made from river-bed rock which is interesting to see.

Fern camp is at the base of Genowlan Mountain. It’s a good site for bushwalking and exploring. The flat site has 4 sections mowed, so it’s good for groups who want a bit of room between each other’s tents. It’s by Genowlan Creek, which usually has a little bit of water in it. (Up to your ankles.) You’re likely to hear koalas here (but we never see them). This site has good shade across the day.

This spot has great views of Genowlan Point, to watch the sunrise over. It is a paddock site, just next to bush. It has good afternoon shade and a lot of flat grassed area. It just east of our creek bed (which unfortunately only gets water after rain). It is by a falling-apart shearing shed - so please dont enter that. It is just by an old half-built home made from river-bed rock which is interesting to see.

This site is part of a paddock, but nestled by large trees, bush and a creek bed. To get to it, you cross a sandy creek bed. It has views of Point Hatteras. It is well-protected, It faces north, and you will get a bit of a sleep in in the morning, and afternoon shade. There is a wombat hole near the entrance, so please be careful.

This is a flat paddock site, next to bush. You can see the point of Mount Genowlan from here. (It’s famous for hosting an extremely endangered pea plant that only grows on the point of the mountain.) This is a good site if you want to go on self-guided bushwalks from here, as there is lots to explore, climb, and find. It is ‘tucked away’ but is also near to a track that is occasionally (Eg once every few days) used between neighbouring properties. This means you may see a car or motorbike, but it’s pretty unlikely. The campsite and track are well separated by an ephemeral creek. A pair of wedgetail eagles regularly drink from, so please don’t wash up in the creek water. We are working to control blackberry by this creek through mulching rather than herbicide, so seasonally you may see blackberry here.

Great spot very private. Breathtaking views, clean and unspoiled. Great communication and detailed instructions from the host. Drive down is no joke, properly offgrid no reception or facilities. If that’s how like it it’s the best within 3hrs of Sydney. Definitely highly recommended. Thanks Emma!

Perfectly located near some spectacular hikes and areas to explore. Owners were really informative and happy to answer questions. Camping Area was great and as described with lots of flat areas for those with roof top tents or car setups

We had Fern Camp all to ourselves and loved it. We didn’t see a soul the whole time ! You’ll need to be completely self sufficient with water, toilet etc. The road in gets gnarly which is fun if you have a capable 4WD. No phone service there - but we have Starlink which worked easily.

Though the driveway in/out is very rough and only accessible by 4WD and not ideal for campers that are low wheel base once on the property it is lovely. We ended up staying on the big paddock and had it all to ourselves which was great for ball play with our dog. The views here were lovely. Unfortunately the weather was against us and we only stayed the one night instead of the two.

Emma is an amazingly helpful host to contact. The property does not appear to be lived at full time, so you really are on your own out there. The road in is what I wound consider a tough 4WD track, you should go prepared, more so if you have a van over 13ft. The property itself is beautiful if you take the time to look around and admire the view. It has been very dry recently, some may find it slightly too much if unfamiliar with those types of conditions.

Another wonderful stay at Rocklee. Campsite 2 is fantastic. The camp kitchen is so handy and the scenery is beautiful. There is so much to explore at this property and such a great place to camp for a weekend.

Ferns is a little paradise. Probably my favourite camping spot of all time. Loved the drive in and out, driving up the steep hill and the vista at the top and sharing the clearing with kangaroos. Thanks for the Great directions and ideas from Emma.

My stay at Rocklee was quiet apart from the sounds of nature and open space as far as I could see - it was exactly what I needed for a mini-recharge. I ended up staying at site 2 and found the kitchen shelter very handy. The drive into the property was challenging but manageable if you're careful, have no distractions and remember to breathe. Emma was a fantastic host, very pro-active in providing information and communicating with me to meet my needs. It far exceeded anything I have experienced on Hipcamp.

Great spot site no 2 looking up to the escarpment. Massive sites. Able to have fires and collect wood on the property. Have to be fully self contained including water. We took our 18.6 ATV van in and there were a few tight spots to negotiate and quite difficult getting back out on the NP road as we bottomed out in places.

This property is beautiful! The scenery is incredible and Emma is a fantastic host. We had excellent detailed instructions on how to get to our campsite. The campsite itself was lovely and peaceful. The track in is rough but it’s worth it when you arrive. Will definitely be back!

Nice and quiet spot at #3. A pity about the weather over the weekend but would love to stay longer and explore a bit more. Fire trail in was a surprise and somewhat steeper than anticipated but no issues heading back up nice and slow.

Stayed at the Fern Camp, which was fantastically secluded with level ground and a good mix of sun and shade. A great spot to escape the more popular and busy grounds of Coorongooba and its surrounds. Emma gave great directions to their property, and the drive down Airly Gap is almost worth the trip in itself. Once in the valley, you're completely off grid with only the occasional water tank or rusty relic hinting at habitation. Explored an old fire trail out under Genowlan and sat under a clear night sky with a fire, and my German Shepherd had an absolute ball roaming around. Airly has tons of historic sites to visit, from Aboriginal artwork to abandoned coal and diamond mining infrastructure. Don't forget to visit the Capertee pub on your way in or out!!

This was fantastic. We stayed at site 3 and it was well established and felt very private. We loved having some hay bails to sit around the fire, and the view up to mount Genowlan was spectacular in the evening and morning. Couldn’t recommend this place enough.

We had a fantastic and peaceful stay at camp site 4 at Rocklee! The area was flat with well maintained patches of ground to allow for multiple tents/vehicles to be in the area but with good space between them. As other reviews have mentioned, the track into the property is suited for 4wd vehicles with off camber corners and loose stones/rocks to add to the excitement and experience! On our last night it rained heavily and we had no problem pulling a heavy camper trailer up the hill on the wet track (recommend airing down your tyres though!). Overall fantastic time and would recommend this location to anyone who wants to enjoy the tranquillity of the Australian bush. Communication with Emma was easy and any questions answered quickly. Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise and look forward to a return visit.

Thank you Emma and Monty for opening up your beautiful property for us to share and enjoy! We had a small group of families together and we were all blown away by how well presented your property is. The camp site was very private and spacious, and the view of Genowlan is next level. (The pictures really don't do it justice!). There is a short section of track down that is very steep and has large humps for drainage so I would definitely recommend 4x4 preferably with a lift. We made it in and back out with a small off road hybrid van with no issues as it was dry but could be challenging in the wet. Seriously can't wait to visit again and I couldn't recommend Emma's property high enough!

This was a great camping spot. Plenty of space and a beautiful view onto the escarpment. There is also a small shelter which was super handy. We saw lots of wombats and kangaroos and plenty of birds. The dog loved it!

Absolutely beautiful area. The drive in was incredible from the amazing views to the 4x4 track down to the farm. This spot was secluded and tuck away under the cliff face. Definitely recommend for people who want to escape the crowds and enjoy a quiet weekend away.
