Bebrue was created in 1972 when 8¼ acres of natural bushland on the top of Mount Gibraltar (“The Gib”) at Mittagong was donated to the Girl Guides Association for the establishment of a camping and outdoors facility.Today, the site offers a well-protected camping facility set amongst beautiful, natural surrounds that are ideal for many activities. The adjacent north-east side of Mount Gibraltar offers walking trails to explore.The Mount Gibraltar Forest is significant due to its rarity, being identified as an endangered and threatened ecological community. The unique geology of the area supports a collection of flora that, as an assemblage, does not exist outside of The Gib. One very important resident of The Gib that you may meet is the extremely rare Powerful Owl. Bebrue is one of the largest privately own properties on The Gib and Girl Guides have always worked hard to protect the natural bush at Bebrue. Bebrue has also been recognised by the Mount Gibraltar Landcare and Bushcare Group as being an important local wildlife corridor. It is a member of Land for Wildlife.Bebrue is run by volunteers and all funds generated go back into improving the facility for use by the Girl Guides and wider community.

We have a chain of dams to throw a line or catch some yabbies, even float around in the kayaks, or just sit beside and soak up the rays.
We have horses, chooks, ducks and peafowl. On the property you may see wombats, kangaroos, the odd fox, and many birds.
An easy and 10kms from the Hume Hwy there are numerous camp sites, one by the oak grove, a couple by the dam and with lovely rural vista.
Kids stay free and are not included in the site capacity.
Sites are easy access with a clear track. All sites are dispersed so you can choose where you stay.
We live on property and are happy to share and let people enjoy our beautiful location.
The morning birdsong and evening frog song is a restorative. The sunrises and sunsets amazing, and the stars beautiful.
Far enough away to unwind and relax, close enough to get a caffeine fix if needed! Close to charming village of Bundanoon, Berrima, local wineries and good food outlets.
Coming into winter camp fires are a must, generally best to BYO wood.
Campers must be self-contained. We have a leave only footprints philosophy. All rubbish and waste (human, animal & general) must be taken off property.
We have had any and all types of campers, from swags to RVs and everything in between, all can be accommodated.
Extremely well behaved dogs are welcome. Our birds are free range so dogs need to be feathered friend friendly.

Located just one hour from Sydney, our property features 19 acres of pure serenity with two dams and one large enough to kayak on (kayaks supplied). The back of the property is perfect for camping and suitable for a small to medium caravan/camper.
The larger dam has a picnic area and kayaks available to paddle on.
Adjoining our property is Nattai National Park with a lovely 20 minute walk down to Little River. The Aqua Pool Trail in the National Park is just gorgeous.
If you wish to try and catch some yabbies from the dams the only allowable and fun way is by a long stick and sausage. Hooks, fishing lines and traps are not allowed as we have people, dogs and horses swimming in the dams.
We welcome self-contained campers who bring their shower/toilet set up. We do have two drop pit toilets available and each campsite has a pit fire provided. We are getting low on firewood so you will need to bring some along with you. There is access to drinking water.
Our property is 2WD accessible and can accommodate small caravans and camper trailers.
Not far from Buxton is Thirlmere where the Steam Train Museum is and train rides are available on the weekends, a great activity for the kids. Thirlmere Lakes National Park is perfect for a relaxing picnic, walk, birdwatching, and glimpse into locomotive history. Mittagong and Bowral have great wineries with restaurant/bistro.
Pets are welcome.
There's a range of different bushwalking trails in the region, including Starlights trail, a scenic bushwalk suited to experienced hikers, which forms part the Greater Blue Mountains trail network between Mittagong and Katoomba.

Nestled right up against the escarpment at an elevation of 450m, this high-end, off-grid 40 acre property effectively offers your own private slice of Macquarie Pass National Park - amazing views, giant cedar trees, fern forests, cascading waterfalls and palms surround.
It feels remote but it's only 90 min from Sydney, 30 min to Kiama and just 15 min to the shops. The property also offers the only hiking path up to the top of the escarpment for some truly amazing views.
As of September 2025, many of the trails on the property have been degraded by the rains and are now challenging for 2WD cars. If you're towing or it's wet we recommend AWD or 4WD vehicles.
Since this is coastal rainforest and it has been very wet, expect leeches anywhere it is damp. These are easily kept at bay with deet and or trousers tucked into socks.
We're not particularly price sensitive - until all those rate rises - but we are extremely value sensitive so we set out to make your stay extremely good value for your hard earned money. The land itself does most of the heavy lifting but also personal service and of course there's Lana to fall in love with.
Note, Mellows Rd is 2.6km long and rises 400m - in parts the road is a 15 degree grade. It's all paved but narrow so if you are towing a large heavy load, it's going to strain your car.

Beautiful property.. Horses were so loving and friendly. We were lucky enough to be camping next to a dead fallen tree, so we had plenty of wood to burn to keep us warm. Land was very well kept and campsites seemed pretty spaced apart! Thanks :)

Stopped by for 1 night on our way down the coast, Ian was there to great us upon arrival along with Lana!
Ian has done a fantastic job making this site as great as it is, plenty of comforts as mentioned in the description which we did not use only due to staying overnight.
We stayed at Cedar Loggers Camp which offers a great privacy, toilets, water and a fire pit all ready to use along with some decking also which was a nice touch.
The lovely Lana was the little freebie we were not expecting, beautiful natured pup that was our ground guide all the our campsite and she even kept us company through out the night sleeping right next to our swag.
We cannot wait for a longer summer stay here to take full advantage of the campsite’s amenities and the walking trails!

A really stunning place smack bang in nature, right next to the edge of a cliff. We were lucky to be the only group to enjoy the whole place but the camping spots are well distanced from each other, you have great privacy. Each spot has its own fire pit with tables/chairs which was handy. Awesome walking trails and friendly farm animals! A bit on the pricey side but would recommend.

The campsite was peaceful , quiet and secluded yet still close to town . Nice clean showers and toilets . Would highly recommend staying here . Was very happy and will definately stay here again .

Hidden Brook was an amazing weekend getaway! Lisa is such a warm and accommodating host, super flexible and genuinely goes out of her way to make sure you have a great stay
The campsites are nicely spaced out, so even if there are other campers nearby, it still feels peaceful and private with little to no noise
If you love wildlife, this place is a gem. I was lucky enough to spot wombats, rabbits, and plenty of birdlife right from the campfire. The friendly horses on the property were also a real highlight!
Highly recommend Hidden Brook if you’re after a relaxing escape in nature. I’ll definitely be back, next time bringing a few friends along!

We arrived after dark and couldn't find our designated spot, but reached out to to Lisa who quickly helped. Site is on a slope but was able to find a few level spots to choose from. Beautiful property that is clearly well maintained. Great location to check out the surrounding towns (and pubs). Other campers were there on a different site but we still had plenty of privacy. Recommend a 4wd to get across the 'creek'. Would stay there again for sure.

We had the privilege to stay at the Yabbie Corner during our stay. The owner Vallance met us on site as we arrived. He was super nice and very accommodating ensuring we had everything we needed for our stay. The view of the lake is amazing and the camp site is very well kept and spacious. They have friendly cattle who visited us during our stay. Vallance also allowed us to use the kayaks on site to take out to the river. There is so much wood around for your fire in case you run out! Vallance has done a great job piling all the wood together for campers to use. It was truly an amazing stay. We hope to be back soon!

Where to go
Mt. Gibraltar Reserve
The highest point between Sydney and Canberra, Mt. Gibraltar is believed to have been formed by a collapsed volcanic core which pushed through the sandstone 150 million years ago. The reserve has seven walks to suit all levels, ranging from short treks from the car park to longer circuits with steep tracks. One of the best is the 25-minute The Rim, which takes you to lookouts on the western side of the reserve.
When to go
Temperatures in the Southern Highlands are mild, so it’s not too hot to visit in summer. At an average temperature of 19°C, January is the hottest month. July is the coldest, with temperatures averaging 7°C, making it a great time to sit in front of an open fire. There are regular farmers’ markets and events, such as the Tulip Time Festival, held from late September until early October.
Know before you go
- Bowral is about 1.5 hours’ drive south of Sydney. You can also catch the train from the city to Bowral on the Southern Highlands Line.
- There are three supermarkets in town to stock up on supplies: Coles, Woolworths, and ALDI. For camping-specific gear, try Botanex or Field and Stream.
