Cooper's Whitewater Off-Grid Cabin
Off-grid cabin with class & charm!
(Review written by Kevin's spouse)
At my suggestion, we went out of our way to make this journey to West Virginia during our trip to see the total eclipse in Ohio. It was absolutely worth it!
This cabin is so thoughtfully decorated, with the perfect amount of creature comforts while maintaining its regional charm. Clean. Modern rustic. Good energy!
GRAVEL ROAD: The reviewer who mentioned that you'll drive 5 miles didn't exaggerate one bit. I timed it & it took about 8 mins while driving at a safe speed of 15mph.
INTERNET ACCESS:
We are homeschooolers, so the access to high-speed internet was super convenient. We used a Wi-Fi tether through our T-Mobile phones. The speed test was 4 MB upload / 100 MB download which allowed our laptop to work. Our child was able to do Zoom classes in a remote area of West Virginia. We found that impressive!
PRIVACY:
Because we were on the road most of the day (traveling to see the eclipse), we arrived very late to the cabin two nights in a row. At night, we encountered no other cars and felt like we were almost completely secluded in the wilderness. However, during the day, we counted six vehicles between the hours of 11am-3pm that did U-turns (or sharp turns) at the end of road. We didn't mind this at all because no one bothered us & we were well aware of the construction going on in the development. I'm just adding this so that you don't go under the impression that you will see zero cars during the day.
William was a WONDERFUL host!

Highly recommend getting both!
(Review written by Kevin's spouse).
The campsite has a fire pit and logs that you can sit upon, plus a picnic table. It's so close to the cabin (which we also rented for a few days) that you might as well get both for more privacy. If you've never been to this part of West Virginia (or the state in general) be prepared to be charmed. This was the perfect family getaway.

Cooper's Whitewater Off-Grid Cabin
March trip to cabin
Williams cabin was clean and very comfy!
My daughter and I and our 3 dogs had a great time. Everything we needed was provided there. It was quite cold when we were there -but after fishing on the Big Sandy and going back to the cabin the propane heater warmed us up perfectly! The grill on top of the gas grill on the little porch cooked steaks perfectly and blackened fish as well.
The couch was quite comfortable to set up as a bed but I have to say the bed on the loft is very hard- but some may prefer that. William was incredibly helpful on giving us tips on where to fish - the Big Sandy is an absolutely gorgeous creek- the waterfalls and rock formations are stunning. Please note- it is quite a hike down to it from the cabin- it is not directly near. But there are many spots you can drive to access it.
The composting toilet was not all gross or smelly and did not pose a problem whatsoever. I would come to this area again- Manet when it’s a bit warmer.😊

Cooper's Whitewater Off-Grid Cabin
This is safe (gated entrance) and secluded cabin tucked away off of the main road. Bigger than it looks inside. My daughter and I had a great time renting this cabin. Perfect for 2 people, arrival was simple and concise.

Cooper's Whitewater Off-Grid Cabin
Great cabin that was perfect for our 10 month old pup's first "camping" trip! It was off the road and secluded enough she could drag her leash outside without me worrying about distractions. The electricity could handle the lights, but the battery died trying to heat water in the kettle - boiling water on the grill to the rescue! There's a propane heater for inside which was super nice. We also brought extra blankets which were definitely needed for the chilly nights. There was an air mattress which we ended up sleeping on instead of in the loft so I wouldn't worry about edge safety for the pup. I was very thankful to have this as an option!

Cooper's Whitewater Campsite
We had a wonderful time here! The directions for arrival and how to use things were clear and William was super responsive to questions. We paid the extra to have the site privately and we didn’t see anyone our whole time there, we heard maybe 3 vehicles down on the road, otherwise it was quiet the whole time. The firepit was great and it was nice to have wood available there for use as well. We didn’t use the cabin but it looked adorable and would recommend both the cabin and the tent site to others! We drove in with a Subaru Impreza and didn’t have any trouble.
