Bug spray is recommended. Although black bears are generally shy and usually avoid humans, they are opportunistic and will search for human food supplies when natural foods are not available. Maintaining a sustainable bear population in New Hampshire depends on minimizing human-bear conflicts. It is illegal to intentionally feed bears in New Hampshire. Intentional feeding can create problems within residential areas and can result in fines. It also may threaten the life of the bear, if it becomes a nuisance animal as a result of this feeding. Please keep your food in your car when you are not at the site and when you are sleeping. The property has views of Mount Martha and the Presidential Mountain Range. There are easy walking trails throughout the property. There is a field to play games; Soccer, wiffle ball, corn hole and yard croquet can be used. Just ask We are within 25 mins of Lancaster, Jefferson, Littleton, and Bethlehem. Small town bars, restaurants, breweries and one of a kind views of mountains, lakes, rivers and wildlife. Rustic Farm Camping in the White Mountains Welcome to our peaceful field on a historic 7th-generation farm in Whitefield, NH—nestled in the heart of the White Mountains. An outhouse compost toilet is available (bring your own TP). No showers or dump stations. Please do not dump grey/black water anywhere on the property. We allow small RVs, vans, and trailers under 24 ft. No 5th wheels. 4WD is recommended but not required. Garden carts are available, upon request, to haul gear if needed. Important to Know: No pets (we’re a working farm with chickens and farm dogs). Fires allowed only in designated pit. Bring firewood (or purchase from us) and always follow fire bans. Pack out your trash (small bin next to outhouse provided for cans/bottles). No cutting trees or using the large bonfire pile in the center of the field. Arrive before dark—there are no lights on site or along the field road. If muddy, you may need to park at the bottom of the access road. We rent to up to 3 groups per night, sites are first come, first serve. Our family farmhouse dates back to the 1850s, with five remaining acres including the barn, fields, and woods. My 8-acre property used to be a hay field. The farm is long gone and I've been reclaiming the open meadow for a few years now. I only mow once a year in order to leave flowers and grasses for the birds and insects, including the honey bees and monarch butterflies who love the milkweed, goldenrod, asters and other wild flowers that grow here. I keep just a few narrow paths and the campsite mowed, You will be sharing your site with the wild world, including the owls who live here. Bears are not infrequent visitors and food should be carefully kept out of your tent and preferably locked in your vehicle with the windows up. I have a small house on the property and keep to myself at the other end of the open field from where your campsite is. I am available if you have a problem or need help with something, but you are on your own otherwise! Because my house is beyond your parking area, I do drive by going about my own business, but I can't see your campsite from my house unless I stand in my upstairs loft and look out the window at the other side of the house. I usually only do that so I can see if your vehicle is here or not. Learn more about this land: Pitch a tent or two on the flat grassy edge of my meadow and enjoy the proximity to town and all the outdoor sports the White Mountains offer. There is afternoon shade over the site. This is a primitive site - no electricity, no running water, no security lights, and no covered pad. There is a picnic table, a fire pit suitable for cooking over, and a clean wooden outhouse. It's very private and although my house is nearby, I'm happy to just leave you alone. My 8-acre property used to be a hay field. The farm is long gone and I've been reclaiming the open meadow for a few years now. I only mow once a year in order to leave flowers and grasses for the birds and insects, including the honey bees and monarch butterflies who love the milkweed, goldenrod, asters and other wild flowers that grow here. I keep just a few narrow paths and the campsite mowed, You will be sharing your site with the wild world, including the owls who live here. Bears are not infrequent visitors and food should be carefully kept out of your tent and preferably locked in your vehicle with the windows up. I have a small house on the property and keep to myself at the other end of the open field from where your campsite is. I am available if you have a problem or need help with something, but you are on your own otherwise! Because my house is beyond your parking area, I do drive by going about my own business, but I can't see your campsite from my house unless I stand in my upstairs loft and look out the window at the other side of the house. I usually only do that so I can see if your vehicle is here or not. Learn more about this land: Pitch a tent or two on the flat grassy edge of my meadow and enjoy the proximity to town and all the outdoor sports the White Mountains offer. There is afternoon shade over the site. This is a primitive site - no electricity, no running water, no security lights, and no covered pad. There is a picnic table, a fire pit suitable for cooking over, and a clean wooden outhouse. It's very private and although my house is nearby, I'm happy to just leave you alone. I loved camping on Lori's land. All the glamping tents are very private, and you have to walk about 100 yards from the car, so there is no noise at all. The outhouse was super clean and so cool inside. The bed in the tent was very comfortable and had enough room for the dog as well. The land is beautiful with North Conway only a 30 min drive for great food and coffee! I highly recommend this Hip Camp!

Big circular drive with lots of space. I like it. Ryan was quick to respond and he checked in to make sure all was well. Little details are welcoming, like lights, toilet stall, picnic table, and fire ring. Statewide fire ban while I was there. The highway is close but the noise wasn’t too bad for me. I fly fished the river but did have to drive for public river access.

Chris and Ellen were incredibly accommodating — they communicated clearly, respected our privacy, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout our visit. The location is absolutely beautiful, tucked into the woods yet close to everything in the White Mountains. The site was level, peaceful, and ideal for our camper. We’ll definitely be visiting again.

The private campsite with the Yurt was so nice, I have never had a bed while camping in a tent before so that was a very cozy experience. The warmth from the wood stove kept insulated very well so we were warm enough all night. The walk from the car to the tent wasn't bad at all and the shower/toilet was very nice to have on-site. It was super close to Franconia notch so I felt I didn't have to rush for morning reservations. I would definitely stay again!

There was tons of space and it was very private, but still close to an adorable town with multiple great options for food and drinks. 5 minute drive (or less). My wife and I went to an awesome brewery called Schilling that was in an old mill on the river with a beautiful view, great beer, and great pizza. Marghie was also very responsive and clearly took pride in maintaining the area. The outhouse was incredibly clean and there were full jugs of water for us by the picnic table and fire pit.

About

Mount Washington State Park is home to the highest peak in the Northeast and surrounded by the 750,000-acre White Mountain National Forest. On a clear day views from the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington extend as far as Vermont, New York, Quebec, Massachusetts, and Maine. Mount Washington is one of New Hampshire’s top tourist destinations and visitors can hike, take a cog train, or drive the steep and challenging, auto road to the summit where a visitor center houses a natural history museum, weather observatory, and cafeteria. While there is no camping in the park, nearby Franconia Notch State Park has two campgrounds.

When to go

The Mount Washington Auto Road is typically open from mid-May through mid-October; outside of this period, guided snowcoach tours can take visitors to the summit. Hiking trails are open year-round but a winter ascent should only be tackled by very experienced climbers. Fall is perhaps the best time for hikers to visit: conditions on the trail are cooler than in summer (although the temperature falls dramatically at the top) and the rich colors of fall provide a spectacular backdrop. 

Know before you go

  • Be sure you are prepared: The Mount Washington summit hike is notoriously one of the most dangerous in the country and conditions at the top are often treacherous. 
  • There are several routes to the top but the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, which leaves from Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, is the shortest and most popular. A hiking shuttle is available at the top to return hikers to Pinkham Notch.
  • Hikers are prohibited from hitching rides from passing vehicles on the Auto Road.
  • A hefty fee is required to drive the Mount Washington Auto Road (although it includes an audio tour, admission to the Mount Washington Observatory museum, and the classic “This Car Climbed Mt. Washington” bumper sticker). The drive is very steep and includes a gravel section so vehicles must be in good condition.
