The Terry is an adorable vintage 1970’s camper trailer nestled in the back corner secret garden area of Marina 59, a marina on the bayside of Far Rockaway, Queens, NYC filled with creative structures, beautiful boats and wonderful wildlife. The RV has a queen size bed that comfortably fits 2. There is a new, powerful AC, a toaster oven, a fridge, a hot water kettle, and all the kitchen basics. The bathrooms, with large comfortable showers, are a quick walk away at the Marina entrance. Your rental includes parking in the marina lot and a clicker to come and go as desired. Outside the doors, there’s a decent super market, a Dunkin’ Donuts, and a gas station. The beach is only three blocks away. The beach where numerous surf lessons take place is 9 blocks away. We are close to JFK airport - super convenient, but you will hear some plane traffic overhead. We're the perfect spot to stay if you have a layover at the airport and want to head to the beach. The marina is also home to Sail Rockaway, that has sailing lessons and trips along the beautiful Jamaica Bay. Great birdwatching as well because we are located at the edge of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. It's truly a magical spot! In addition, I've opened a shipping container store, Tree Rock NYC, right by the bathroom. Please stop in and check us out! The Terry is a perfect retreat for surfers, sun lovers, bird watchers and anyone who loves to enjoy all that Rockaway has to offer. And it’s an easy breezy subway / bus / ferry / drive away from the city! In summer, there are surfing classes, sailing and fishing trips, and numerous concerts and performances. I'm very willing to help you find the fun and adventure you seek here in Rockaway.

Reload in West Haven

10. Reload in West Haven

40mi from Fire Island National Seashore · 1 site · Lodging · West Haven, CT
This Jayco RV is decorated and designed for two people who want to create a cozy getaway to relax and celebrate beautiful, unforgettable moments. It's an escape that takes you away from the routine and offers a unique experience with a vintage style where you'll feel good vibes with every breath. With the cold season upon us, the RV has built-in heating, and I've also added an electric heater to keep you warm during your stay. It has its own control panel and thermostat. When you're going to use the shower, I suggest turning on the water heater 25 minutes beforehand so you can enjoy a lovely shower. But don't forget to turn it off after you're finished, as it will stay on unnecessarily. It's also important to know that when you use the toilet, only use toilet paper, as it's specially designed for this type of RV and won't cause blockages. Smoking is prohibited inside this property; if smoke is found, an extra cleaning fee will be charged. This is also an ideal space to relax and work remotely, as it has an independent antenna to provide internet access to the entire unit and all the electronic equipment you need. I will ensure the unit is delivered to you with all its accessories in working order so you won't have any problems. I always suggest guests ask any necessary questions so they can use it without any issues. On the day of arrival, you will receive another message to refresh your knowledge of how to use the campervan. Close to the beach and sand, the city offers activities nearby so you won't have to go far to enjoy them. This campervan has all the qualities of a house, with the only difference being that you're on wheels—something truly delightful. I have two bicycles so you can take a ride along the bike path on the beach and enjoy the majestic scenery. A different way to have fun and experience something new. After reading about the campervan's features, if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them to ensure your stay is as pleasant as possible.

Blydenburgh County Park

19. Blydenburgh County Park

14mi from Fire Island National Seashore · 1 site · Hauppauge, NY
Nestled at the headwaters of the picturesque Nissequogue River, this 627-acre park stands out for its breathtaking views of Stump Pond and its diverse range of cultural and recreational activities. Visitors can immerse themselves in nature while enjoying miles of scenic trails that cater to outdoor enthusiasts of all levels. Stump Pond, formed in 1798 by Isaac Blydenburgh and his cousins Joshua and Caleb Smith, was created when they dammed the river to build a grist mill. This historic damming flooded the riverbanks, resulting in the pond's unique name, derived from the tree stumps that still emerge from the water's surface. A highlight of the park is the 5.7-mile loop trail that encircles Stump Pond, made accessible by a newly constructed boardwalk through the surrounding wetlands. Hikers can follow the trail marked with white or blue arrows, and guided hikes are periodically organized by the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference, which has its headquarters within the park. Additionally, visitors can explore the Blydenburgh Farm and New Mill Historic District during guided tours offered every Saturday at 1:00 PM. Overview

About

The Fire Island National Seashore is a different experience during high (tourist) season and the rest of the year. During summertime, you can expect mad crowds. As soon as Labor Day hits, the crowds die down, even though the weather typically remains great for another month or so. However, you may find that the shops, restaurants, and even the ferries start to shut down once summer's over. If you know what kind of experience you prefer, time your visit to avoid (or be in the middle of) the hustle and bustle.

The soft sand at Watch Hill feels luxurious—and if you stroll a bit eastward, you're likely to find an even emptier swath of beach. Walking around the Watch Hill Marina and nature trails is a lot of fun (bring insect repellent!), and the ferry trip to Davis Island is definitely worthwhile. If you plan to visit the sunken forest, that mosquito repellent is mandatory (these tiny monsters will follow you back to the beach!) This ecological phenomenon is perhaps the only one like it in the world.

Hipcamp can help you find casual places to stay on Long Island as well as in nearby Connecticut. Look for spots to pitch your tent in meadows and on farmland. You can even opt for tent camping at Rockaway Beach or a shabby chic cottage along the Connecticut coast.
