Host Gerilynne Heston says:
In 1981, I bought a small cabin at a USFS auction. It was a 16' X 20' frame cabin and was a part of the historic Chik-Wauk Lodge on the Gunflint Trail. I then had to find a piece of land on which to place my new home, and through a friend I bought 40 acres in the township of Colvill, 10 miles northeast of Grand Marais, MN.
My property was originally owned by a Civil War veteran named John Kelly. The campsite is on one of his homesites. This cabin burned down in 1919, and part of the foundation is still visible but has been taken over by the forest.
Adjoining my property on the south and extending all the way down to Lake Superior is a MN State Wildlife Management Area through which the Superior Hiking Trail runs. There are beaver ponds, meadows and heavily forested areas, which cover approximately 320 acres. My own personal playground and yours, too!
