Just outside the quaint town of Austin sits a vivid reminder of one of Pennsylvania's worst disasters – the Austin Flood. In 1909, the dam was constructed on Freeman Run to power the Bayless Papermill downstream. Many wondered if the dam was safe. On September 30, 1911, Austin found out. Poor construction, coupled with torrential rain, resulted in the dam's collapse. Nearly 400 million gallons of water were released, destroying everything for 8 miles. At least 78 people perished in the tragedy. It was the second worst flood disaster in Pennsylvania's history and sixth worst dam failure in U.S. history. The tragedy sparked new legislation to improve dam safety, and the Austin Dam was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The ruins of the dam still stand, surrounded by a 76-acre park, as a tribute to the lives lost in the Austin Flood. Don't miss one of Potter County's best kept secrets!

Fireflies tend to take over in the summer months, its a beautiful thing to see. It's the perfect place to get away and enjoy nature all while being close to restaurants and downtown Olean if needed. Enjoy cooking on our rustic fire pits or light a fire to just enjoy the crackling sounds and warmth at night. A safe place for kids to run around, enjoy family time and the simple pleasures Mother Nature has to offer. It's perfect for anyone who just wants to get away and immerse themselves in the country. We have 2 camp sites ready right now both come with a fire pit. One is more secluded which is campsite #2 and the one with the valley view is campsite #1. Showers are seasonal. The last day for shower use is Oct 15th. You’re more than welcome to bring your own portable shower hook up and use the shower house for privacy. We apologize for any inconvenience. You will need to have a cigarette lighter access to use the shower to power the pump. We recommend bringing flashlights as our property is solar powered and there is no electric on the property. On low sunny days, solar lights may not last as long into the evening. On rainy days the property can be very muddy and access to the top of the hill to the sites would be best accessed with a 4WD vehicle as well as winter time with snow on the ground. If you'd like to charge your phone we advise you to bring back up battery packs as there is now electric hook ups on site. The most private sites are Cloud 9, Bunny Pit and Lilou's Landing. The cottage is located down by the main house and not at the top of the hill. Pets are welcome, please clean up after your dog. * No firearms or explosive devices of any kind are allowed on the property.

Founded in 1955 as a campground, amusement park and pay to fish lake, lake lucy has a rich history of having families spending time together. After the death of lake lucys founder Raymond Mealy in 2007 the amusements and train were all removed as well as the zoo. The Steinman family purchased the property in 2017 and began remodeling the pavilion and putting in water and sewer lines to be able to use the campground and pavilion again. It has been a place for the Steinman and Mealy families and friends to enjoy for the last few years and we felt it was time to once again welcome the public to enjoy our property! We currently have 11 sites with full hookups (water, sewer, electric(50/30/20amp). The campground water will be turned off November 10th due to freezing temperatures. We will still have electric and sewage hookups available. Learn more about this land: Campers can fish, bike, swim at lake lucy. They will have access to both ponds. Top pond has bass and have caught bass over 20 inches with the largest being 23 inches and over 8 pounds. Both ponds have bass, crappie, perch, bluegill, and carp. We are within a few miles of a dollar store if any supplies are needed, a gas station is at the end of the road and we are only a few minutes from cook forest as well as the tionesta reservoir. Water is available on site for campers and campers can use the bath house. In the bath house there is 1 full bathroom with a shower and the other bathroom is just a half bath. Quiet and peaceful, come relax and enjoy time with your family at lake Lucy!   we are also conveniently located close to the bike trail near clarion as well as the bike trails in cook forest and oil creek state park. Campers will have access to the North Country National Scenic Trail that is the longest in the national trail system it spans across 8 states from North Dakota to Vermont covering 4,800 miles. Minister Creek Trail is a short drive away. It's a moderately challenging hike that passes several outstanding rock outcroppings. After your hike you can drop by frog rock the local's favorite swimming hole that's along the same short drive back from Minister Creek trail back to the Nason Trust. Tionesta Creek and Salmon Creek are well stocked to lure in any avid fishermen. Along with another local gem; Ross Run's Habitat Improvement area it's a half mile set aside for Children 15 and under and people with Special needs giving them their very own special stocked fishing area.

Only a 3 mile drive will land you at the East Branch Lake, a seven mile long lake where you can put your boat in and fish, kayak or water ski to your hearts content.

Founded in 1955 as a campground, amusement park and pay to fish lake, lake lucy has a rich history of having families spending time together. After the death of lake lucys founder Raymond Mealy in 2007 the amusements and train were all removed as well as the zoo. The Steinman family purchased the property in 2017 and began remodeling the pavilion and putting in water and sewer lines to be able to use the campground and pavilion again. It has been a place for the Steinman and Mealy families and friends to enjoy for the last few years and we felt it was time to once again welcome the public to enjoy our property! We currently have 11 sites with full hookups (water, sewer, electric(50/30/20amp). The campground water will be turned off November 10th due to freezing temperatures. We will still have electric and sewage hookups available. Learn more about this land: Campers can fish, bike, swim at lake lucy. They will have access to both ponds. Top pond has bass and have caught bass over 20 inches with the largest being 23 inches and over 8 pounds. Both ponds have bass, crappie, perch, bluegill, and carp. We are within a few miles of a dollar store if any supplies are needed, a gas station is at the end of the road and we are only a few minutes from cook forest as well as the tionesta reservoir. Water is available on site for campers and campers can use the bath house. In the bath house there is 1 full bathroom with a shower and the other bathroom is just a half bath. Quiet and peaceful, come relax and enjoy time with your family at lake Lucy!   we are also conveniently located close to the bike trail near clarion as well as the bike trails in cook forest and oil creek state park. Campers will have access to the North Country National Scenic Trail that is the longest in the national trail system it spans across 8 states from North Dakota to Vermont covering 4,800 miles. Minister Creek Trail is a short drive away. It's a moderately challenging hike that passes several outstanding rock outcroppings. After your hike you can drop by frog rock the local's favorite swimming hole that's along the same short drive back from Minister Creek trail back to the Nason Trust. Tionesta Creek and Salmon Creek are well stocked to lure in any avid fishermen. Along with another local gem; Ross Run's Habitat Improvement area it's a half mile set aside for Children 15 and under and people with Special needs giving them their very own special stocked fishing area.

We loved camping at Zoar Valley Forest Retreat. Nathan was a great host; he answered all my questions immediately with more detail to add. The camping site itself was extremely isolated, easy to get to and beautiful to unwind and relax. We had enough space for our car, tent, canopy, and hammock with lots of space left over. The site was close enough to everything we needed (towns, shopping, nature sightseeing— so many farms! etc.) but still distant enough that we felt we were completely alone (we were). We also drove an hour and some change up to Niagara Falls, which was absolutely amazing (I cried 3x), and spent the last day at Cattaragus Creek, which was straight out of a National Geographic magazine. The hike there and the swimming itself was phenomenal. I highly recommend this camping site and we would love to come back. Thanks, Nathan!

Had an awesome stay! Would definitely come back. Owners are friendly and responsive. The site was clean, private, and quiet. There’s a field across from the site that we laid out in, could be nice for stargazing! Only negative was the amount of glass in the field. Assuming it’s just from the fill since the rest of the camp is pretty well maintained, just be careful with pets and kiddos over there. The outhouses and shower were a nice touch. Brought a magnetic light and was able to shower at night. Made a few froggy friends and got some bird watching in before even hitting the trails. Overall a great spot!

Ben's communication was very prompt and helpful from the first contact! The cabin was located along the Tionesta creek which was very serene and calm. There was easy access to the road and our vehicle for unloading/packing up. The cabin had all the amenities for comfort and fun the woods- electric, hot water, shower, A/C, fire wood/fire pit, kayaks, and picnic table. Ben's mom met us as soon as we arrived and explained everything about the cabin to make sure we felt comfortable and ready to enjoy the cabin and then left us in privacy. Thank you Ben and we look forward to our next escape at your rustic and cozy cabin along the creek.

We enjoyed our stay VERY MUCH! Her dad Tim was very friendly and attentive. He was right there when you needed him but still fat enough to still have privacy. The view from the hill top was everything for us. We star gazed at night and walked the trails in the morning. We saw salamanders, chipmunk, frogs and different mushrooms. It was so serene. This place was awesome! The hosts John and Olga were very kind and helpful. We felt so welcomed. The campsites are easy to get to and you have a great view of the stars at night. They also hosted a Star tour that we got to be apart of and it was a lot of fun and we learned a ton! They also had some people jamming and playing live music. It was a great camp experience and certainly one we’ll be doing again.

This is really a campsite! Surrounded by woods with daily visits by deer and turkeys - at least that’s what we saw. After a week of very heavy rains, getting to the fire ring required navigating a swamp- but the site drained and dried out by the time we left. The road in is brutal but the remoteness is worth testing your suspension. Fishing for trout at the reservoir (drive to) was a big bonus. The site is nicely maintained and level. 5 stars from our party.

About

In 1882, the Kinzua Railroad bridge was constructed. At the time, the 2,053 feet long span was the longest and highest railroad bridge in the world. An engineering masterpiece, it earned the distinction of a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1977. But Mother Nature had her own ideas for the bridge. In 2003, a violent tornado destroyed two-thirds of the span.

The state of Pennsylvania decided to preserve the wreckage and convert the remaining length of bridge into a skywalk with a glass viewing platform. Now a State Park, it’s a great place to see the aftermath of nature’s fury. The view of the valley is a nice too.

The park is especially beautiful during the fall where the trees come alive with their signature reds, oranges, and yellows. Nearby picnic areas are great for making a day of it.

The best time to visit Kinzua Bridge State Park is during the fall, when the foliage transforms into a vibrant tapestry of colors. Summer offers warm weather perfect for exploring, while spring brings blooming flora. Winters can be harsh, with snow potentially limiting access to certain areas of the park.
