Welcome to our family land! We are a low-key, rustic, proudly affordable option in Calistoga, with amazing views and open space to explore, just 10 minutes outside of the charming town of Calistoga. Our camp is open May to October, and when you book a site, you get access to the whole property so you have options of which site to set up in. Book Manzanitas but show up and like Shaded Oak better? No problem, just stay there. Decide you want one of the glamping cabins? Just pay the extra, and the door combo will be revealed. The hilltop is for day-use, showering, etc. and readily accessible for Coral Cabin guests right next door. It also shares space with our main house tenants so it is the least private, but has the best views. The family is quiet but you will hear cars come and go from the hilltop. The expectation is 'leave it better than before so the next guests may enjoy! This is camping. BRING YOUR OWN GEAR. Put your own linens and bedding on top of what is already on bed. I can provide linens and bedding for an extra $25 for glamping spots. Beds have pillows on them. There is wildlife. This includes bears and mountain lions in the area. You will not see either but good to be aware they exist. This is a safe 'neighborhood'. We do not have problems with thievery. However, always keep your valuables safe IN YOUR CAR. There is no Power. No WiFi. Cell phone coverage not guaranteed. Depends on your carrier. DOWNLOAD DIRECTIONS AND INFO BEFORE ARRIVING TO SITE. There is Poison Oak. Stay in the designated areas. If you are susceptible, bring and wash with Tecnu. Or use dish soap and wash. Poison oak is an oil. Most importantly: Don't Touch. No Fires allowed during Summer months. Be super careful. No candles. Views of vineyards, redwood trees, valley floor, and expansive sky. Private, Quiet and beautiful. A central sunny meadow ties together 3 distinct private areas with a communal kitchen, bath-house, picnic-table sitting area and parking on the side. There is 1 outhouse that has a mailbox system to ensure privacy. (Please read manual on picnic table for instructions) Kitchen. 2 burner propane stove, and sink with running water (cold). (Good for drinking. Pressure is low) There is basic cooking and dishware. Cleaning supplies. A Trash and Recycle Bin. And a Compost bucket where all food scraps should be disposed of and then covered with wood-chips. Kitchen should stay clean at all times. Please put dishes away in the tote to keep clean and critter free. Bath-house. Shower with hot water. 1 shared Outhouse. Please use the path that goes to the outhouse (unless you are in the Greenroom) and make sure you put the mailbox red flag up so that others know it is occupied. ((Then don't forget to put it back down!!) Common sitting area. There are 2 picnic tables, Lots of umbrellas that can be moved wherever, a fire pit/table and lots of seating. Parking. There are room for 3 vehicles. Parking is to be in designated parking area please. Sunny meadow and forest shade make this a lovely landing spot to relax and enjoy nature, and a great opportunity to turn off those cell phones!! Butterfly Landing is about 1/2 mile from HWY 128 that runs through Anderson Valley. This location is the perfect location for it all. Wine tasting in the Valley, Navarro River swimming during the summer months, and the Mendocino coast is nearby. This is an Honor system camping spot. We ask that you leave your spot 'better than before', as in 'Leaver no Trace'. I rely on everyone to do their part in the communal kitchen to keep clean and free of critters. SUPER IMPORTANT to put all food scraps in the compost bin. NO food anything in the trash. This is how the bears show up. Please do your part. Thank you so much. Each of our areas, whether for entertaining or residing, has its own theme and is decorated with care. Each of the listings has it's own private deck or patio and then you have access to all of the common areas on the property We promise you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but you are minutes from everything. Lulu’s Landing and Captain Wack’s Cove is a pirate-themed Creekside hangout, where you can enjoy a fire, except during banned season. Also a great place to capture a glimpse of the numerous critters that cruise our creek. Foxes, Deer, Squirrels, Otters, Ducks and Herons as well as numerous songbirds that feed from our bird feeder. Lulu’s Lanai is a Flamingo-themed outdoor living room and dining area with fun vintage furniture and décor. The Take- A -Liki- Tiki Shower Shack is a great place to cool off and clean up after a day on the river or exploring tidepools at the coast. There is even a puppy bath station behind it for your furry friends! The Wack Shack is our outdoor bar and grill, full of fun, colorful lights and signs. There’s plenty of equipment to cook there: appliances, a BBQ, sink, fridge and walk-up bar. We also have several apple trees, a pear tree, and tons of blackberries when in season to share with our guest. Our Veggie Garden will be available next season to enjoy also. We are constantly improving our property so please stay in the finished designated guest areas only until we open up the coming attractions. There are plenty of sites and destinations within minutes from our home too! We have Tennis, Pickle Ball, and Basketball Courts around the corner. The Russian River/ Monte Rio public beach is a short walk past the Parks and Recreation Center, and they rent Kayaks and Canoes during the summer months. The Redwood Alliance camp is just a few miles up Bohemian Hwy if you dare to zip line through the redwood canopy forest or Armstrong woods in Guerneville for those that would rather keep their feet on the ground and take a hike Duncan's Mill is a quaint town (less than 3 miles from us) on your way to Jenner by the Sea which is just about 9 miles to the west of us. You can take a gorgeous coastal drive to Bodega that is only 15 miles away. Historic Fort Ross is another beautiful 20 mile coastal drive. Bike Enthusiast love the back roads out here and the Biggest Attraction Is… Wait for it…. Wineries are everywhere! During the summer there are several Music Venues close by too. The Rio Nido Roadhouse has outdoor music on the weekends. Rockin the River is every other Thursday in Guerneville. The Monte Rio Variety Show just celebrated it 111th year to a sold-out crowd. Zac Brown, Steve Miller, Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor are just a few Headliners that have been here in the past. We have a great Lightwave coffee shop across the creek that is a quick 5 minute walk. There are several restaurants along the river as well as a small grocery store, movie theater, and a Homemade Ice Cream Parlor that are all close enough to walk to or drive. Nestled in the redwoods, we have two units. The "Cazita" is a fully-equipped studio cabin with full kitchen and bathroom. Both offer quiet seclusion and easy access to all that the lower Russian River Valley has to offer. We are close to both the Russian River, Austin Creek, the coast beaches (15 minute drive), stellar cycling routes and many amazing trails for hiking. Our south-facing property receives full sun unlike many redwood locations. The "Fairy Rings" have been trimmed up for fire prevention and offer great views and opportunities to appreciate the magnificence of these Redwood giants that we love. There is great coffee and Amazing pastries at Gold Coast just a mile away in Duncan's Mills. Jenner is only about 15 mins away with Cafe Aquatica and River's End Restaurant (reservations needed-SO good and special) The "Cazita" sleeps up to 3 guests in a king bed and sofa sleeper and has a bathroom with flush toilet and shower. It has a fully-equipped kitchen with everything needed to prepare your meals. There is a 2 night minimum for booking. The "Redwood Nest" is a standalone room featuring a queen bed and bay window looking out onto a redwood stand. There is a composting toilet in the attached outhouse and an outdoor sink. There are no cooking facilities and no cooking allowed. The redwood nest is really perfect for a couple looking to eat out and then sleep, fully at peace beneath the Redwoods. Please note that there is a friendly dog on the property (although we do not accept pet guests). This property is ideal for quiet people who want to get away into nature, enjoy the outdoors. It is dark at night- we do not have exterior lighting except for string lights and provided flashlights. Quiet hours begin at 9:30pm. There is absolutely no smoking of any kind permitted on the property. Although some reviews mention a hot tub, it is no longer available to guests (sorry, maintenance issues)

A full bath house with a flush toilet and hot shower is available next to the main house. A water spigot is attached to the main house. - Spare camping supplies are available by the bath house if you forget something! Ask ahead if you need to borrow a specific item. More about the property: I built my home high upon a southern ridge. Watching the river of coastal fog flow in and out below me is one of the most wonderful views to behold! I have 30 acres of land to explore and camp upon in the surrounding redwood forest. 10 miles east are Montgomery Woods redwood preserve with GIANT trees, and a little farther, perhaps a mile is the famous Orr Hot Springs Resort. If you drive a half hour west from my land you will be in the coastal Mendocino village. We are marijuana friendly!! Thus, we have created more of an adult oriented atmosphere. one last note: We recently made separate listings for different sites. See campsite #1 for reviews.Guests love staying here "What a fantastic experience. I arrived to Cosmo’s super late after a long day going up the coast. It was a last minute book that morning, if I remember right - my campsite had fallen through. His directions were spot on, and very kindly he stayed up to take me to my site and help me get set up, even going so far as to light me a fire. His property was easily navigable in the dark, and my two wheel drive made it fine. We talked for a while - what a cool guy. He was able to give me recommendations from a friend of what to do during the next legs of my trip, which was great and really did make a difference for the rest of my week. I cooked my dinner and sat stunned looking at some of the best stargazing I’ve had in a long time.When I woke up I realized that I had been sleeping next to a mountainside view - this was site 3. Talk about the best surprise I’ve gotten in a while unzipping a tent. The clouds were gathered in the valley and as I ate breakfast I got to watch the sun slowly clear then out. It was unbelievable.Before I left, Cosmo let me use his indoor solar-heated shower and told me all about his projects to build his own home and roads and move towards a more sustainable future. Overall this is really the best of what I imagine hipcamp has to offer - kind property owners & unique individuals who care about their guests while also allowing them to have their own experience. If I’m ever near Mendocino I will gladly make the trip inland to stay at his property again."

There are also 2 tent sites available on the property, located in one large area, further away from the RV sites. Barely 7 minutes away is downtown Gualala, with amenities such as 2 supermarkets, pharmacy, bakery, restaurants and more. There is a beautiful holistic gift store, The Sea Trader, Four Eyed Frog Bookstore, and some lovely art galleries in town.   Kayaking is available at the Gualala River. Hiking at Gualala Regional Park, the Bluff Trail, The Sea Ranch public access beaches, Stump Beach, Salt Point Park with a petrified forest, Bowling Ball Beach with its amazing natural formations (can only be seen fully at low tide of more than -0.2m), Manchester State Beach, Elk Beach, and more. Swimming at the Navarro River, and various bays. It is a place of incredible scenic beauty all along CA 1. Watch whales spouting during whale season. (Gray whales and orcas is December to May. For humpbacks, visit May through November, and for blue whales, the largest animal on Earth, plan your stay between July and October). Bower Park, just 0.5 miles away with a lovely lake, tennis courts, a baseball field, a basketball court, and two separate playgrounds. Play disc golf or hike along the nature trail/fitness course. Anchor Bay is 5 miles up CA 1, with a supermarket, a few cafes, restaurants (including a great Thai place!) laundromat, hair salon, and more. The quaint town of Point Arena is 12 miles north, with a supermarket, Frannie's Cup And Saucer, The Bird Cafe, a beautiful historic lighthouse, a theater, a pier, a mini-safari park (B Bryan Preserve with zebras, giraffes and more. Tours need to be booked in advance). Also visit Roots, a natural pharmacy for herbs, teas and supplements.  There are also spots like Occidental, Bodega Bay, Jenner (with the Russian River to kayak and swim) and Timber Cove, all on the way to Gualala from the south. Bodega Bay has lovely spots to eat, with clam chowder, fish and chips. Enjoy wind and water sports, and walk on the pier.

We are Albion locals lucky enough to call the Oak Show home. We live on the other end of the Oak Show property, a distance providing ample privacy for guests. We have two young children and two Lab mix dogs. You may see us walking along the driveway. Please drive slowly. We share this space with our neighbors, children, and pets. We also ask that campers be mindful of noise in the evenings and respect our rule of all amplified music being off between the hours of 10pm-8am. The water on our property comes from our well. Please be respectful of the drought conditions in our area and conserve water in any way possible. The base rate for this site includes up to four people, there is an extra charge of $15 per day, per person for any extra people. Campers can set up tents or trailers around the site and have access to the kitchen and bathroom, as well as an outdoor shower. There is a kegerator, gas grill, propane heater, and a corn hole set available to rent (see Extras). There is plenty of space to set up multiple tents, perfect for a group. Navarro Beach and Van Damme State Beach are 15 minute drives away. The village of Albion has a general store and deli, as well as beautiful river and marina. A 20 minute drive North will get you to the village of Mendocino where you'll find shopping and restaurants, as well as access to hiking, biking, kayaking, and whale watching. Should you have any questions or need any help during your stay, we are just a short walk away and happy to help. We hope you enjoy our site and we look forward to hosting you!

Weekend Trip to Pickle Barrel Cabin and Camp

The land is breathtaking! The trip up from Gualala is on a normal, every day paved road that takes you up a winding mountain, and then once entering the property its not far to the cabin so it doesn't seem like it would be a problem for most vehicles in any weather. The cabin is perched at the top of a hill that overlooks a wooded valley. It is SO peaceful, quiet, and green! The redwoods crackle in the wind and the leaves rustle and it's just a quiet piece of legit paradise only 13ish mins from civilization (which was important for firewood re-stocking, it was COLD up there, which made for perfect fire pit weather!)

As good as it gets. The cabin had everything we needed and is extremely private. The land itself is beautiful and the surrounding area is worth exploring. We met up with friends and bopped around — Greenwood Creek State Beach in Elk, Mendocino, Jumbos in Philo, Point Arena Pizza for some big floppy slices.

I stayed here with some friends for my bday weekend in January and it was great! We had such a fun, cozy time. We walked down to the creek near the cabin, did a cold plunge, then warmed up in the outdoor tub. We cooked in the kitchen, played board games, made a fire. It was a fun, chill weekend and I absolutely LOVED falling asleep to the stars and waking up to the trees. I would 10/10 stay again

A dreamy cabin for adventurous folks looking for privacy and immersion in nature. We had such a relaxing and inspiring stay here. I loved all the interesting antiques and artifacts throughout the property, the incredible view of the ridge, and sitting outside watching mist float through the forest. Walking around the property we found tons of edible mushrooms including chanterelles! Wonderful location for exploring Elk, Mendocino, and surroundings. Bon is a very gracious and kind host.

Secluded and peaceful! A dog’s off leash paradise. Loved the quirky findings of the cabin. The more you look the more you see! The skytub and outdoor shower were my personal favorites, especially on a cold rainy day! It was nice to take a step back from the hustle and bustle and focus on simple day to day tasks, such as cooking, reading, building fires, and connecting with my dogs and boyfriend. Bon is very nice and responsive to any question you may have during your stay. Hope to come back in the summertime! Safe to say our pups are worn out from the constant play in the yard and nearby trails.

What a beautiful gem in the trees!! The cabin was so cozy & inviting and had a stunning view! The semi-outdoor bathroom was such a wonderful touch! We brought our dogs & they absolutely loved roaming among the many redwood fairy rings & open grassy fields. We were nice & toasty with the wood stove & what a joy to disconnect from technology & simply read our books. This is defintely a spot I wish I could keep secret all to myself! Can't wait to come back & also enjoy the camp spot too!

We had an amazing time at the Coastal Cabin. Bon is a very responsive host, loved the location. Very secluded and peaceful. Cozy wood stove to stay warm. Kitchen has a gas stove, large mini fridge and full sink set up. It’s a drive to get to coastal access, but worth it. We really enjoyed just doing nothing at the cabin. Will definitely be back!

The closeness to nature may make you think there's little to no creature comforts, but that'd be a false assumption. Hot showers, heating, wifi, and all the necessities for cooking and coffee We could not be more happy with our stay, and eagerly await our next opportunity to return!

Kelsey Creek Campground

Such a beautiful camp with amazing views! The bathrooms available were super clean! The people who owned the camp came around to pick up the trash bins at the site and were very lovely and kind! We had a very nice conversation with them about the camp. The river access was definitely the best part especially for the hot summer days! We will definitely be back next summer!

Upper Bayview Campground

We enjoyed our stay on lot 121. Enjoying having a spot on the outskirts of the campgrounds. The location was very private in mid May with only a few other campers around. Enjoyed multiple deer sightings but be ready for evening with plenty of bug spray. Firepits height hindered our ability to enjoy sitting around a campfire. Central bathroom had a lot of bugs. Bathroom with shower was Much nicer. Local trails were easy and enjoyable.

Upper Bayview Campground

Upper Bayview is quite an uphill hike from the day use/beach area of the Park; if that's where you are going to want to be, consider a site farther down the hill. On the other hand, if you want a bit more privacy and quiet, sites 119 through 127 on the outside of the loop are all fantastic. They're also a bit of a walk to the restroom, which is not quite as central as the campground makes it appear (in reality, it's closer to where site #113 is shown on the map.) We had a beautiful view of Mt Konocti from site #125.

Lower Bayview Campground

Clear Lake is a scary place these days... If you like to hike or nice views this isn’t the place for you. The State Park was beautiful but mostly closed. The bathrooms were nice and well lit (there were Black Widows in the bathrooms and the showers are $.25 each minute). We brought a bee trap and there were some bugs but nothing unmanageable.

Kelsey Creek Campground

Report from your Shirtless Host on Clear Lake S.P. at Kelsey Creek Camp grounds! I just spent 10 days in both camp sites 71 and 53 !! 71 and 70 have shade all day long and you can see the lake! Site 53 has shade all afternoon and you can see the lake alittle! Clear lake S.P. has alot of plus and very few bad things any one can say about it ! This is a great park swimming, wild life all over the place fishing , hiking, bike rideing. Boating has a boat ramp. The swimming area is rope off and great for the kids l had a great time at the park!! So bring your family and friends and likes all go camping!!! If you don't have a boat there is boat rentals near by in Lake Port! I listed the camp sites l liked in my other review. Shirtless Host

Report from your Shirtless Host on Kelsey Creek Camp ground Iam staying in site 71 total shade all day long . This is a great camp ground !! The only thing is if you have RV more then 25 feet there is only a few spots that will do !! The reason is rocks they put large rocks at the back of the pads this tends to shorten the the pads!! So l went around in The Kelsey Creek Campground and l have a list of the larger sites no rocks!! This let you back all the way in to the site. So here is a list of the larger sites! 32; 38; 37; 40; 43; 44; 46; 53; 54; 66; 70; 71; 89; 90; remember this are the best for larger RV. 70,71 had shade all day! This report is only on Kelsey!! Report from your Shirtless Host on Clear Lake State Park. I stopped in to see the park now that it is open again the park looks good Clean and waiting for you all to show up! Camp sites are looking good!! Head over to the park but make sure you check the web to see if there will be a camp site for you! It is going to get busy so plan ahead. Biggest campsite I have ever stayed in. Would be great for large groups (and it seemed that's what most were doing around us). Bit of a misnomer in its name - since you can't really see the water at all, at least in summer. I'd call it a great campground but the other campgrounds in the park seemed just a bit more scenic, which made the Upper Bayview spot less desireable. If I go again, I'll try to get a premium spot in the Kelsey creek campground where sites sit directly on the water.

Report from your Shirtless Host on Clear Lake Park. Don't miss this park it is a great park to spend the weekend or a just a night you will not be sorry!! I hope that you and others heard that a record Cat Fish was in the lake!! I hope that it was a record anyhow. Head up to Clear Lake and camp and maybe you will catch the record Cat Fish or you can just camp and enjoy the camping experience. The lake also has both large and small mouth Bass!!! The lake has Bass , Bluegill and Crappie along with a lot more to do. So bring up your Jet Skies , Boats and your familyand let the adventure begins. This lake is the 3rd. larges lake in Calif. if don't have a boat rent one and the fun begain . Shirtless Host Steve!!

This is your shirtless host Steve on Clear lake I lived in Clear Lake park on the other side of the lake and I can tell you will love this park. But be ready for the warm weather this summer it will get warm. I will be a camp host next summer and l am looking forward to it. So stop in and camp and have fun. Lower Bayview Campground

We went in July 2014. Great campsite. Found a semi secluded site 109. The water was refreshing but you could feel the draught is working on Clear Lake. Campground was clean and fun. Some nice hikes in the area.
