Over 100 years ago, this property was logged of all of it's old growth conifers. Well, things have been growing here ever since. There are many old growth stumps dotted around the property; many acting as "nurse or Mother logs" to new growth. We have been here for 30 years & have select logged keeping the integrity of the property in tact. These trees know they are loved and honored. They are happy & it shows. The *Purple Cottage* -- was found & salvaged (recycled!)-- moved onto the back of my property in 2012. This 16 X 12' place has been my studio in the past, but has offered overflow for friends & ; family. Nestled in the woods and ever-so-private, the cottage has a pull-out double futon, plus a small sleeping loft and can accommodate 1 -2 nicely (we will consider 3 if you have a small child, but it would be a tight fit!... There is a very small sleeping loft in the cottage.). There is a “en suite kitchen in the cottage that has a small fridge, microwave, and two burner stovetop cooking unit.
The cottage offers privacy in a wooded garden setting. The bathhouse, with hot shower, vanity and; toilet --are all steps away (and covered) from the main cabin.
The Purple Cottage sits on a shy wooded acre, with greenbelt buffers all around, maximizing the sense of privacy. our vintage Shasta Trailer across the driveway of the Purple Cottage is currently used as a music studio (and rarely as family/guest overflow), and I have my own small Artist Studio located also on the back of the property. Even with all the little enclave of buildings, The Purple Cottage retains a private feel all to itself, with reliable Wi-Fi available at the cottage. . It is located in a quiet little neighborhood, about 6 miles from Langley & 6 miles from Freeland.. Private beach access is across the road and a 15 minute walk up the street, where you can beach comb & explore the shoreline out at our little point. The private deck off the side of the Purple Cottage offers views of the gardens & flora, and has a little gas barbecue. There is also a delightful hot tub on the deck, which is a wonderful feature. An outdoor kitchen on the edge of the woods allows a roomier “camp cooking” experience with Colman stove & cold running water (season permitting).
We are located 6 miles from the picturesque town of Langley and equal distance from Freeland, on the south end of Whidbey. Our area is very *bike-able* and either direction will get you to town!

My boyfriend, Dave, and I reside in the farmhouse. My mother, Lauren, also makes her home here. We have discovered several exceptional camping spots on our 15-acre property. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of the forest or lounge in our stargazing hammock circle.
During the summer months, from July to September, our farm will be ablaze with seasonal fruit, including blackberries, cherries, apples, and salmonberries. Our expansive fields and wooded surroundings are also home to a diverse array of wildlife, such as bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, barn swallows, quail, and their offspring. Deer and occasional coyotes roam the property, but rest assured, they are apprehensive of us and pose no threat.
We derive great pleasure from spending time outdoors, so you may frequently observe us engaged in fieldwork, construction, or simply relaxing in our stargazing hammock circle. We are always available to provide you with space or invite you to join us. We derive immense satisfaction from meeting new individuals and have numerous recommendations for Whidbey Island, including the delectable blueberry stand in Freeland and the Mutiny Bay Blues, a venue that we can either recommend or provide directions to.
We eagerly anticipate your visit. Fern Gully is conveniently located just a two-minute drive from the charming Greenbank Pantry. Where you can indulge in delectable sandwiches and quench your thirst with refreshing Topo Chico or a bottle of wine. For a scenic excursion, venture to South Whidbey State Park, a six-minute drive away. Where you can embark on exhilarating hiking trails along the breathtaking coastline. Lagoon Point County Park, a mere five-minute drive from Fern Gully, presents an ideal destination for fishing and whale watching. The Navy OLF is nearby. It is recommended you check the flight schedule for dates and times the jets will be flying. Depending on the direction they happen to be flying that night, it can get quite loud. In those instances, ear protection is recommended. About a third of summer weekdays the OLF is used. The jets do not fly on weekends and holidays. Having said all of this, most campers enjoy the airshow, as it is a unique opportunity.
The camp site is approximately 6 acres located in a quiet secluded forest area near highway 525. A fire pit is provided on non-burn ban days. A flat grassy area is big enough to enjoy your recreation activity of choice. Bring your binoculars and check out all the different kinds of birds. Nearby wetlands provide lots of food for birds, bats, and dragonflies. Other wildlife you may see are deer, bunnies, owls, quail, butterflies, garter snakes, and raccoons. Lots of native flora can be identified with your plant identification app or book. The beach is about a mile away where you can hunt for sea glass and enjoy the waves or build yourself a shelter out of driftwood.
The mostly flat gravel road can accommodate any size RV.
10 minutes to Coupeville, Greenbank Farm, Ebey's Landing, Port Townsend Ferry, and Patmore Pit Dog Park.

This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region.
We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. We have a Native Plant Center where we grow up to 50 species of rare native plants. Ask us for a tour.

Almost 20 years ago, Shelley and Casey moved back to the beautiful Skagit Valley farm Shelley grew up on. Her family has farmed in the valley for five generations. Casey had studied permaculture in the San Juan Islands and they immediately began planting edible and useful plants throughout the property. New Van Camping Site in 2023: We have a new gravel pad van site next to an 18 acre farm field with a wonderful sunset view. We do not allow fires at the site. But you would be welcome to have a campfire in our firepit a short walk from your van site. Please note, we are not currently offering firewood. But it is available at the Shell station less than 5 minutes from our farm.
Tent Site: Pitch your tent in a private corner of our little organic farm in the beautiful Skagit Valley. You will be surrounded by gorgeous edible landscaping and a stunning view of Mount Baker. Take a stroll through our gardens, graze on some fruit in season. A 10 minute walk or quick bike ride to the Skagit River offering great swimming in the warmer months.
Our farm is surrounded by many flat scenic farm roads very popular for cyclists and photographers. There are two restaurants and several antique shops less than a mile away in the cute little town of Conway. The Conway Muse is a funky music venue and restaurant hosting great live music on weekends throughout the year.

I had a great experience at this RV campsite and would definitely recommend it to other visitors. The site is well-maintained, peaceful, and thoughtfully laid out, making it easy to relax and enjoy the outdoors. It is spacious, clean, and provide a good level of privacy. Everything felt organized and well cared for, which made the stay comfortable and hassle-free. It’s clear that the campground is managed with attention to detail.
Although there is a nearby gun range, the gunfire was not an issue at all and did not interfere with our stay. Noise levels overall were very reasonable, and the atmosphere remained calm and enjoyable throughout our visit.
This is a great spot for anyone looking for a clean, comfortable RV campground with a relaxed environment. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others looking for a reliable and pleasant camping experience.

The Hipcamp was just as described. It was clean and it was cozy.
We arrived later than expected and left earlier due to the expected cold weather. I brought a small propane heater and extra blankets but it wasn’t warm enough for us.

Weekend Trip to Pacific Rim Institute
Great spot on the middle of the island. Quiet and peaceful. No power but clean and dry. Fire pit offered a great spot for an evening campfire.
Very clean, cots for sleeping. Bring headlamps. Running water, shower and toilet clean and about 60 - 80 yds from the cabin. Great host and spot!

Weekend Trip to Wild Hearts on Whidbey
We enjoyed our stay at the Glasshouse! The concept is really cool and we enjoyed the large space. Rochelle was responsive and quickly was able to find someone to fix the woodstove when we were having problems.
If you are not confident in starting a fire I would definitely bring a fire starter. I am confident in my fire making skills, but we were not able to get a fire going, which made for a chilly stay. It feels relevant to note that the weather forecast was incredibly rainy so while the wood was dry, the humidity definitely had an effect (nobody's fault). Luckily there is a baseboard heater in the bedroom space as well as electric blankets so we were plenty warm at night!
The dishwashing/handwashing station wasn't super obvious to us, and we hope in the future there will be a sink space to do these things.

I really enjoyed my few days. The property is beautiful and my dog loved every minute of it. I loved being able to explore the property and meet all the animals. Debi was quick to respond and made my entire trip easier. I’m leaving Washington, but am very sad that I didn’t find this spot earlier. I will definitely be back during the warmer months and can’t wait for my next adventure at this beautiful property.

Ena's campsite was lovely! Several spaces with privacy equal to or greater than state/national parks. Not every site had a campfire ring but there was only one other group there so we were able to use another site's fire pit. The toilet was really nice, indoors, lots of room, and a handwashing sink!

Overview
About
It’s easy to see why Kayak Point is Snohomish County’s most popular park. The saltwater beach park offers 3,300 feet of picturesque shoreline with sandy beaches, beachside picnic shelters, a fishing pier and boat launch, and lush evergreen forests. Fish or crab off the 300-foot pier, or look for seals, sea lions, and gray whales in the waters and bald eagles and other birds in the air. More active visitors can go windsurfing, kayaking, or scuba diving. Plan ahead if you want to spend the night though, as there are only 30 RV and tent sites, four water trail sites, 10 yurts, and one cottage.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for water views: Sites 7, 9, 11, 13, and 13A at the Kayak Point Campground offer the best views of the bay.
- Best for comfort: Ten yurts each sleep five in a cozy space with heat, electricity, and picnic tables and fire pits outside.
- Best for paddlers: Several beach campsites offer water trail camping for visitors arriving and departing on human- or wind-powered beachable watercrafts.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Plan well in advance if you want to camp in mid to late summer. Campsites can be reserved up to 270 days in advance, and may require a two-night stay over weekends.
- Try to visit during the week, during a non-holiday period, or in winter for the best chance at a campsite.
- If you don’t have a reservation, show up first thing in the morning to grab any unreserved sites. Walk-ups for campsites not accepted after sunset.
When to go
Summers are the busiest times at the park, when you should plan to arrive by noon before the parking lots fill up. Whale watching season is from April to June, while sea lions can be spotted in winter and early spring. The best time to spot waterfowl and marine birds is in fall, winter, and spring. Crabbing season is from July to early September, from Thursdays to Mondays only. From November to February, the south shelter and some day-use area restrooms are closed.
Know before you go
- The Washington Discovery Pass is not valid at this park.
- The park has two ADA-accessible campsites.
- Fishing and crabbing licenses are required for anyone 15 and older. Crabbing is only permitted in season during daylight hours.
- Firewood sales are available during daylight hours. Do not collect or burn driftwood. Fires are only permitted in designated fire rings.
- Pets are not allowed on the beach, pier, yurts, or cottage.
