As the owners of Beaver Lake Campground for the past several seasons Julian and Kachina Starr are amazed at how fortunate they are to have purchased this very special campground. The Black Hills area is spectacular with so many things to do and see. You could spend a month here and still not see it all. The summer weather is perfect with warm but not hot days and cool summer nights due to the 5,300-foot elevation. Perfect for evening campfires.
Living and working in the Black Hills National Forest is incredible. They feel very happy to be in such calm, peaceful surroundings.
Julian and Kachina have accomplished many updates, and improvements in the time they have been here. Everything from not-so-exciting infrastructure, well pumps, electrical upgrades, painting, swimming pool pump, etc., and have attempted to give this beautiful campground a more inviting atmosphere, comfortable seating on the office patio, beautiful flowers, unique pinecone art, upgrades to the cabins, mini-fridges in all cabins, new mattresses, electrical improvements and more.
The Starr’s 25-year experience in the RV business in Gold Beach, Oregon, and Durango Colorado has given them lots of warm memories and some funny stories too. They look forward to many more great guest experiences greeting and serving old and new friends.

This was my first experience with Hipcamp and couldn’t have been happier with it. Thank you, June and Dave, the camp was comfortable. Had great views. It was a good location for our Sturgis bike week. Hannah Road was nice for morning or evening strolls as there is almost no traffic on it, we backed in so we could have the truck available for rain day excursions. We did have to level off, but I believe it could be good that the pad was slanted as the rain would drain off. Nice having electric and water.(a must for my wife.) our black tank was plenty big enough to hold for the week and there is a free dump in deadwood about 15 minutes away.(they ask for a five dollar donation which I gladly gave.) I checked out the dump site the day before because I was concerned with having room to maneuver the trailer as during bike week deadwood was very busy, but there was plenty of room to maneuver at the dump site.
very convenient to go to on the way out to the highway. Nice seeing the deer walk down the hill in the morning and the chipmunks running around all day long. having use of the pavilion was also very nice.

We had an amazing time at the Roost Resort! Our camp site for our RV was GREAT. The bathrooms and showers were so clean and easily accessible. Also, the location is perfect. Such a quick drive to two national parks, Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and Custer State Park. I can’t imagine a better location! I highly recommend it and if we ever get back that way we would definitely try and stay there again.

Beautiful property, set back in the trees. Feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but just a few minutes from Custer, and easy drives to Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore. Lots of cool rocks to pick up and cool rock shops to purchase rare finds if you’re into that. Deadwood is just a little over an hour away. Will definitely come back in the future.

Good CG with ample services, shade and quiet time as all sites have power, no generator disruptions. This site backed up to a field with wildlife wandering through. on occasion. Be aware all dirt/gravel, no pavement and plenty of trees to watch for staging with pop outs and awnings.

The camp site is really nice and far enough away from everything that it’s not noisy but close enough to all attractions. I would recommend staying in the lower sites as upper sites are not as close to the fields. The restaurant next to it has great steak bites, beers and a friendly bar tender.

One of the best Campgrounds we’ve stayed in. Every site is nestled in the trees. Our site was at the end of a cul de sac overlooking a lake. The showers and laundry facilities were always available and clean. The shower areas had plenty of room with hooks and benches. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

We loved camping in our Airstream at June's. The large concrete pad, pavillion, 50amp power on either side of the pad, and a fresh water spigot were key for us to enjoy the indoor/outdoor experience. We were there over July 4th (250 birthday of America) and it was very quiet and peaceful! We did need our A/C and you do need to plan for the Black tank management.

We just stayed four nights at Big Pine Campground while exploring Custer State Park and the area around it, and honestly, we loved it. There were afternoon thunderstorm with hail but it was quick and didn't bother us.
The owner, Jennifer, is super helpful and easy to get ahold of. The camp hosts, John and Gary, are just awesome to chat with. They both gave us some really great tips on local places to visit and eat. I'm a fellow retiree/veteran, so I especially loved swapping stories with John.
Jennifer completely nailed our campsite recommendation. We have three kids and two puppies, and I originally asked for a secluded spot far away from everyone because our pups like to bark at people walking by. But she suggested site #44 instead, and it was perfect. We were just a stone's throw from the bathrooms—which is a lifesaver with three kids—but we still had plenty of space. We even set up two hammocks at the site!
If you need a friendly, family-and-dog-approved place to stay in Custer, definitely book here. We'll be back for sure!

The Black Hills will always feel like home to me.
There is something sacred about the forests, granite peaks, and quiet mornings there.
Watching the sunrise from Black Elk Peak is a memory I will carry forever.
The land holds deep history, culture, and meaning that cannot be fully explained in words.
Every visit reminds me to slow down and appreciate the beauty around me.
The smell of the pines and the stillness of the hills bring an incredible sense of peace.
No matter how far I travel, a part of me will always belong there.
The Black Hills are not just a destination, they are woven into who I am.

A must stop on the way to Mt Rushmore
Nice, clean campground for tents on a clear lake, which my daughter enjoyed swimming in! It was also a short drive to Mt Rushmore. Camp host was friendly and welcoming.

Bring a spare set of tires, the road coming in is extremely rough and no cell service once you get there. Next up is the poison ivy, mosquitoes and wasps. The creek is very shallow. Very rocky tent areas. There are much better campgrounds to choose from.

We tent camped here for one night passing through the area. There is a number of reservable sites and ones that are first come first serve. It is a beautiful little campground a short distance from Keystone. We loved this campground! HOWEVER, it is right on a windy scenic route that attracts a lot of motorcycle traffic. It is very close to Mt Rushmore which is a positive if you plan on visiting the monument (although there are many beautiful sights from the road). Being close to the monument, the helicopter traffic was nonstop during the day from what I assume were aerial tours. SO, if you intend on hanging out at the campsite all day, do not expect peace and quiet. The noise does die down early evening. Good basecamp for day trips!

Great location and right around the corner from Mt. Rushmore! I enjoyed the tents only aspect of the area, it made it seem the sites where secluded. We reserved two nights at #17 and then we reserved a walk-in site #20 for the next two. The bathrooms were kept clean (vault) and the hosts were very nice and answered any questions we had about the area. There is a creek and some trails that were right off the campground. Try to stay in #19, seems to be the most secluded. My only negative was from the 2 families staying three sites down, they let their kids run around camp unattended until about 10:30pm and bright and early the next morning. They also trashed the bathroom unfortunately. I wish everyone had/was taught some camping etiquette.

A great little campground set against a steep mountain in a small valley deep in the Black Hills. Heading here in early August, I was worried the site would be full like many others in the area due to the Sturgis annual motorcycle rally. This campground being about 4 miles down a gravel road may have deterred the crowd - only three other sites were occupied. A heavy rain fell so I wasn't able to fully explore, definitely check your maps and sources - there was confusion even among locals as to how to get here!

This is a beautiful area and well maintained by the camp host. It's also the best campground for quick access to the rock climbing in Spearfish Canyon, and the super convenient general store in Cheyenne Crossing, in case you need to refill ice in your cooler or just want a delicious meal while you hide from rain.

Expansive campground with multiple sections and large campsites. Plenty of shade amongst the tall, dense pine trees. Number of sites have beautiful views of Sheridan Lake. Jump on the Centennial Trail or hike the Flume trail and check out two train tunnels from the gold mining days.
