Property is primitive and dense with trees/ground cover. 115 feet of cleared driveway is best spot for RV set up; levers likely needed as driveway is gravel is uneven in spots. Tent camping with firepit on hillside campsite. Second firepit at the end of the driveway.
Hiking/Biking Options:
There are no marked trails on the property. For guests interested in hiking we recommend:
1) The 310 mile Superior Hiking Trail easily accessible at multiple locations throughout Grand Marais OR
2) The Woods Creek Superior Hiking trailhead approximately 1 mile from property; parking lot at trailhead.
Biking not possible on site but nearby gravel roads are an option for advanced riders or bikers looking for a challenging ride. For other biking options, including family friendly routes, check out: www.visitcookcounty.com.

The driveway to the camping/parking spots is a tad of a slope so keep that in mind when booking. The max length we allow is 34 Feet long due to the road to the camping spots. You might drag your bumper or hitch on your way down the hill to the spot. It's not hard to drive, it just is a bit steep and only gravel. We are always here to help if need be when you arrive.
Bring bug dope, the bugs can be very hungry right about dusk time til about 30 min after the sun goes down.
If you have kayaks or paddleboards you are welcome to bring them and enjoy the lake. Watercraft (boats/jet ski's) not allowed.
This is a primitive camping spot, meaning no hook ups or WiFi. (no water/sewer/electric/wifi)

Experience upscale camping–Glamping in the Forested Hills of Lake Superior. Sailor Springs is a small three-site campground located just two miles outside of the picturesque tourist town of Bayfield, WI. 2023 will be our first year of operation and we’re excited to host campers on the property and provide a unique camping experience.
The campground is spread out over 5 acres of forest that you’ll hike into from Bresette Hill Road. After parking at the trailhead, you’ll gather your bags and hike into your glamping site. The trail winds through the woods, leading you first to a valley where the seasonal Clark Creek runs through in the spring. The first two campsites are on the other side of this valley. The trail can be steep in spots and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to reach the secluded campsites. The third site is a bit farther into the forest, the little A-frame cabin, Anchor sits on the edge of the spring-fed Brickyard Creek that flows year-round.
We have many plans for the property and depending on when you stay, the campground will be in various stages of development. The campsites, trailhead / parking area, and trails are scheduled to be completed in early spring. We hope to add amenities such as a camp sauna and screened-in gazebo later in the 2024 summer / fall. About this space
The "Kick Back Tiny Shack" has a queen size bed, small futon bed (for a child) along with two single camp cots. This tiny house can sleep up to four people (2-3 most comfortably) depending on your needs. There is a mini fridge with mini freezer along with a mini gas range/oven, microwave, coffee pot, hot water kettle and toaster. There is a TV and Wi-Fi. The cabin has a freestanding gas fireplace to keep you cozy and warm and air conditioning for the hot summer months. Come prepared to relax. This is a rustic cabin with all amenities so no need to pack up dishes, bedding, towels, etc. (bring sleeping bag and pillow for anything other than the queen size bed.) The kitchen is fully stocked with your basic cooking and dining essentials. If you don't want to do dishes you are welcome to bring your own paper plates, etc. Coffee, Salt, pepper, cooking spray, dish soap and hand soap, toilet paper and one roll of paper towels provided. There is not a well or city water, but you will be supplied with an electric pump faucet with 10 gallons of water for the kitchen sink to heat water for doing dishes, etc. There is also an electric pump faucet for the outhouse sink. In addition, 1 to 2 gallons of drinking water will be supplied depending on the length of your stay. There is a heated outhouse next to the cabin which has a shower stall in which you can shower with 120 gallons of water and on demand water heater. Towels are provided and if you need more water, you can contact us, and we can refill at our home which is located next door. Please allow notice in case we are not home at the time. The contact information will be provided with your booking confirmation. You have your own private yard on our 6 acres with a BBQ pit in the summer months, firepit and grill off of the back deck year-round. If you chose to bring a four-wheeler, canoe, boat or snowmobile there is plenty of parking space depending on the quantity. Snowmobiles and side by sides are available for rent 3 miles up the road from the cabin. Come and unwind or explore the many wonders that the Northwoods has to offer! The interior of the cabin is newly refinished. The exterior will be improved as time goes by. No unauthorized guests or pets as a fee may be added and Airbnb does not cover this.

I can see why they note that the cabin isn’t for everyone in the description, buts definitely for me! I had an incredibly cozy & peaceful north shore getaway with my dog. Location was great for us, in its own little world but close enough to amenities & restaurants & beautiful views. The internet worked great, kitchen was well equipped, shower was surprisingly easy to use, comfy & well set up. Thought was obviously put into a good nights sleep with choice of quality pillows & mattress. Kyle was generous, helpful & easy to connect with. Will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Off Grid Auroras
My friend and I had a perfect weekend at Kyle’s place. We were looking for something more than camping but less than standard accommodation and this was exactly it. Rustic but met our basic needs. It was also stocked with good books, games, and decor that kept us curious and entertained in the evenings. Kyle was also so generous to come by and help us get the wood fire stove started. Though this style of accommodation isn’t for everyone, if you’re comfortable with everything mentioned in the description of the property, I couldn’t recommend it more.

Ashley was so accommodating & let us upgrade to the Dome on short notice when I realized it was a wee chilly for wall tent world. It was a neat experience & great spot to go waterfall-cave- lake viewing from.
Highly recommend!

We had a great stay at Sunset Bay! The site was large and private. Shelia was super responsive and a great host. She provided us with great directions, some dinner recommendations nearby, and firewood. The hosts checked on us a couple times to make sure we had everything we needed and to answer any questions. All-in-all, a wonderful stay!!

Weekend Trip to Glamping in the Northwoods at the Kick Back Tiny Shack.
This was the best glamping cabin I have ever stayed at! Incredibly well stocked which can be hard to find. The property was beautiful and secluded. Best of all, the shower was hot and easy to use. The hosts were also extremely responsive and very pleasant people. I will definitely be staying here again!

Amazing views; I would recommend bringing something to keep you off the ground because it is very uneven. If you bring a dog or kids, be very careful because it is not a joke when they say cliff. I will definitely be coming back!. My friends and I had a blast!.

“Hidden Gem” close to the famous Hwy 61 along the north shore. If you are looking for a unique experience away from the hustle & bustle of traditional campgrounds, this is it! Cabin in the woods, all ran off solar power. Kyle’s directions were very laid out, which made this “off grid” experience extremely simple. Plenty of amenities to make your stay comfortable. I believe this stay is best suited for people who are planning to be in/out vs. staying for an extended period of time. I only say this because it is ran by solar power & heated by a small wood stove. It worked perfect for us to know that we had enough power/heat to last the couple hours in the AM, shut down for the day to explore & come back to power on/heat up for the night. I think if you were looking to hang out for a couple days inside, you may drive yourself crazy wondering “how much more battery power do we have”.😂 However, I’m just a Mom who took her 12-year son old on an adventure! What do I know, other than it took the struggle out of a last minute decision & memories were made! We were impressed with the craftsmanship this tiny home in the woods holds. Especially the shower house built on a natural spring, which also includes drinking water!

Weekend Trip to 'Tiny House' Farm Stay near Lake Superior
A wonderful spot for tourists looking to be out and about as it’s pretty close to town. We enjoyed having a solid structure with windy conditions. Carla’s place has an abundance of fruit that she offered to us which was so sweet! Thanks Carla, tell Gabriel we miss him!

Beautiful spot that fit our 25' Airstream perfectly. Electrical hookup worked just fine. Newbies like me should be prepared to back their trailer up the driveway (about 30 feet) but that was the only "challenging" part of it and it really wasn't bad at all.

2 nights at Twisting Twig Gardens and Orchard
I wasn't sure what to expect as I haven't gone glamping before. Bed was comfortable and completely warm for the cold nights. It was pretty awesome to wake up to the sunrise which I have great difficulty in getting up in time for that and here you don't even have to move from the bed. Very quiet. I didn't get a chance to venture out on the property but everything is well marked and maintained. Thanks again.

About
The rugged wilderness trails and primitive hike-in sites at George H. Crosby Manitou State Park aren’t for the faint of heart, but if ultimate seclusion and killer views pump you up, this place couldn’t be more worth it. Waterfalls pour into volcanic canyons and rare mammals roam free here on the north shore of Lake Superior (moose, deer, bears, and wolves, to name a few).
Bensen Lake and the Manitou River emerge gloriously through dense swaths of spruce & fir, all largely undisturbed per the wishes of the park’s namesake—George H. Crosby was a mining magnate who donated the land on the condition that it wouldn’t be developed on too much. It was Minnesota’s first backpacking-only site, and has been intentionally maintained as a haven for backpackers all these years. Pack up and git over there!
When to go
The best time to visit George H. Crosby Manitou State Park is during the summer and fall when the weather is ideal for hiking and nature viewing. Winter brings a serene beauty, perfect for snowshoeing, though travel may be more challenging. Spring's thaw can make trails muddy and less accessible.
