HB03 Minnow [30' - 2p]

We spent 2 nights on a houseboat and 2 nights in a cabin. Ron and Beth are great hosts and the resort is peaceful and welcoming. The beds are comfy, cabins and boats and clean, and the kitchens have everything you need for cooking your own meals. There are many activities for kids big and small to enjoy right at the resort and interesting attractions in the Ely area as well. Birch Lake is beautiful and the fishing was good (June). We hope to return soon. Highly recommend.

The cabin we stayed in was small but good. We will be going back but will stay in a little larger cabin. The owners are fantastic and this was the best place we have stayed for the price since we have been going to the Ely area. I feel old but pushing 25 years. Planning on a return trip this fall and again this winter. Give it a shot. Really really nice.

Loved my stay at Timber Bay! Gorgeous setting and a beautiful lake. I've fished all over the Midwest and this is one of my new favorites. It's easy to find comfortable places to target walleye and pike no matter what the conditions are. Great cabins and staff. Planning to head back in the fall!

We had an amazing time spending 3 nights on a houseboat. The highlight of the trip was meeting local fisherman Hag who is affiliated with Timber Bay and available for hire. My son and nephew caught 14 walleye in 3 hours with Hag and he is a priceless Northern Minnesota gem. Drew was super helpful and kind when we got stuck once or twice. Cooking/grilling on the boat was very easy (no microwave, so plan accordingly). Plenty of sleeping space for 4 adult sized people. The lake was beautiful. Lots of spots to tie up for the night and enjoy campfires. We paid a very small fee for the linen package (sheets and bath towels) which was worth it but plan to bring your own pillows, beach towels, and blankets. The weather was great (early July). Grocery store 5 minutes away in Babbitt. It was the perfect trip to take with my 14 year old son who loves to fish.

Stayed at the Bear Trap thanks to my amazing family. Rooms and the entire cabin very clean and well funished for our gathering of 12 people. Everyone had their own bed! Service was outstanding, every staff member was very helpful and friendly. Location on Birch lake, very beautiful.

I could say so many wonderful things about our time at Timber Bay. We rented a houseboat over Fourth of July weekend and things could not have gone smoother. Checking in we were greeted by Janet (one of the owners) who was extremely knowledgeable and very, very friendly and then Drew (the other owner) who was equally as accommodating, he came in to give us a brief overview of the lake and boat operations. As someone who has never driven a houseboat before I felt more than prepared after speaking with him. The staff was also so friendly and helpful. They helped us load up the boat and within 40 minutes of arriving we were heading out onto the lake. THE LAKE! It is absolutely gorgeous and very easy to navigate. Its rather large so you can easily find a quite and secluded area; with many campsites to choose from. The stars were beautiful at night and while the bugs do get a bit intense, they die out rather quickly once the sun has fully set. The fishing was fabulous, the water was perfect for swimming, and the views stunning. Would definitely recommend renting some kayaks they have available as well! At one point we did run out of firewood, but all we had to do was call the resort and they brought out some more bundles for us, along with some ice we requested as well. Very timely delivery too! Checking out was a breeze. We unloaded, they did a quick inspection of the boat and then we were on our way home... far too soon if you ask me. I could say so much more about our experience at Timber Bay but we had a fabulous time and I can confidently say we will be coming back for more houseboating adventures! Thank you again for such a wonderful and memorable weekend!

HB08 Northern [44' - 8p]

This was our first trip to the Babbitt/Ely area and a longtime family friend recommended this resort having brought her family for many years during the MEA break. We stayed in Cabin 4 with 5 adults and 2 small children. Also 2 hunting dogs. It was very clean and lots of nice touches. A complimentary bottle of blueberry wine. Janet and Drew are the new owners. Excellent communication and very welcoming. Our grands enjoyed the game/craft room, the bikes and the playground area so near our cabin. It was gorgeous weather and no end to nature’s fall color. Visited the Wolf center too. We hope to go again and will look at renting one of the larger winterized cabins just for kitchen space and bathrooms.

My family of 5 stayed in Cabin #9 at Timber Bay Resort over MEA weekend & it was a dream. I cannot imagine a better place for a secluded woodsy retreat. With a grocery story less than 10 mins away & a full kitchen I never felt like I was "roughing it" but my kids LOVED the lakeside sandy beach, fishing off multiple docks & the rec room stocked with puzzles/board games, pool table & fuse ball. The owners are excellent hosts & provided bikes for my kids to ride. The hiking is unlike anything we've done as a family & was so accessible, just a short walk from our cabin door to the trailhead & options to go for miles. We left feeling recharged & filled up on the beauty of nature, hoping to return to stay in other seasons as I can imagine the grounds turn into a winter wonderland & a breathtakingly blooming garden & a fantastic Summer playground for all ages. This is the perfect place to reconnect with family & friends in a clean, comfortable & spacious accommodation.
