This land was homesteaded by my great grandparents in 1900 as part of the Homestead Act of 1862. After losing my store to fire in 2013, I took the leap, and decided to open the farm to the public. I have a menagerie of animals, many rescued or adopted, that love all the attention. My friends' kids love camping in the pasture with the animals and when I saw an ad for Hipcamp, I thought maybe others would want the experience, too! Learn more about this land: Yoga with goats meets camping with alpacas! We offer camping in the small animal pasture of our family petting farm.  (We also offer campsites away from the critters if your not too sure about sharing your space with livestock!). The options are limitless!

Site 3 - Camping with the Critters
My group had a delightful time camping here! The location was great for us needing a place to camp en route from the Twin Cities to Voyageurs National Park. Their pasture was much more fun than some boring RV park! Lois, Jill, and the rest of the staff could not have been nicer and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and entertained us with info and stories about the animals in residence there. But the real fun began in the evening when alpacas, llamas, goats, two baby yaks, a couple of dogs, and a cat began wandering into our campsite. The yaks in particular were fun with everyone in our group petting them and posing for selfies. What we originally viewed as merely a novel place to stay en route to Voyageurs could easily be a destination camping trip itself.

Northern Lights on the Farm!
I don't think I have enough good things to say about this place! The property is beautiful and totally exceeded my expectations. I greeted and shown to my campsite even with a later/after hours arrival. I was lucky enough to be there on a night the Northern Lights were visible, and the wide open field really made it for an amazing show. The next morning I hung around a little bit meeting the animals and other volunteers that help upkeep the farm. Everyone was so warm and welcoming, I really didn't want to leave. If I ever find my way back to Northern Minnesota, I will ABSOLUTELY be back!

Great hosts and a great and fun camping experience. The farm land was nice and it was nice to see all of the animals. Lois and family were so accommodating! Side note to all campers: the goats are free roaming and love your food so make sure you have everything put away when they come around!!

Camping at Cook’s Country Connection was amazing. We were amongst goats, llamas, alpacas, horses, baby yaks, you name it - day and night! It was an experience none of us will ever forget, and the kids already have plans to go back next month. Lois is welcoming and down to Earth. Bring some rain boots to run around in and a sense of adventure!

My family lived Camping with the Critters! It was easy to find, and my daughter had so much fun with the goats, miniature horses, donkeys, chickens, ducks, peafowl, miniature cows, yaks and more! She's already asking if we can go back!

Camping with Critters of Every Sort
We had the BEST time camping at Cook Country Connection! Lois was a fantastic host and we got to camp with the animals on the petting farm. After hours, they brought out grain to feed and get to know the various animals (alpacas and baby yak and a mini steer, oh my!). Our campsite in the pasture was beautiful, with a fire pit and very clean port-a-potties. It was an incredible experience.

Fun with the critters
I absolutely love camping with the critters! My host Lois was very welcoming and friendly, she was well acquainted with the area her family has been there for over 100 years. My campsite was clean , spacious with plenty of firewood for me to use. The Porta potty was the cleanest one I’ve ever used! By far my favorite thing is the critters, I was able to feed them and pet them, they made camping even more fun!!! I would definitely like to come back! Thank you critters… And Lois

So fun!
This was an amazing experience! Our 4 year old didn't want to leave. Lois and her staff were so kind to us. The play area was fantastic and the animals were fun to pet and watch. Bonus was the free range time at night where the llamas and goats hung out by our campsite. Can't wait to come back with friends!

The animals are friendly and happy and it will bring a smile to your face when you wake up in the morning with two curious llamas lying 20 feet from you. We will be back!!

Epic animal experience
This is such a fun place! I booked it on a last minute whim as a place to stay on our way to visit the new pup at the International Wolf Center in Ely and … it was the absolute highlight of the trip! Although the wolf pup was super neat, my kids absolutely LOVED the animal interactions here. They asked how late they could “free range” … ie run around with the animals. We will absolutely be back! Thank you, thank you to our lovely hosts. It was epic.

Fun Time on the Farm
Amazing spot! The campsite was well equipped with a picnic table, two chairs, firepit and extra firewood. Lois was kind, and showed us all the ins and outs of the farm. The creatures were fun (including the sassy llamas). One note, google maps sends you slightly down the road, so use the GPS coordinates.

We had such a wonderful time! Lois was a fantastic host; more than helpful and welcoming. She and her staff were so kind and patient with our kids (ages 6 and 9). She let them “help”with all kinds of chores and they were always thrilled to come back to the campsite and tell us all about their farm adventures. The sites were close enough that we felt like we were by the animals but far enough away that we didn’t feel like visitors to the farm were by our site. The site was flat with many areas to put the tent. We chose an area that was well shaded after 4 pm as it was mid 90s during our stay. The barn was always open so we had a place to go when it was raining. The barn also had a coffee maker, fridge , etc she said we could use. We had a picnic table at our site which made things like meal prep and eating easier. It was too hot for us to do any fires but Lois had wood at the campsite as well. Thanks for a great time, Lois, and for taking our girls under your wing for a few day. We all had a really great time.

Wake up to goats next to your tent!
We only had one night but we'll absolutely return! Lois and her team were wonderful and did so well with my young kids - introducing them to the animals, letting them feed the animals, etc. We chose site 1 in the pasture and we loved waking up to the goats foraging next to our tent. The site has a small picnic table, 2 chairs, and a side table. If you have a larger group you'll want to bring a folding table or something. The tire swing near the site was also a hit with the kids. Overall and outstanding experience.

Animal fun for family with toddler!
This was an awesome place to stay for me, my partner and our 20 month old. There were animals everywhere! The campsites are in the corners of the pastures where the animals roam freely outside of zoo hours. The petting zoo itself is on the way to the portapotty and water source so we got to see the animals each time. The only thing to note is that since you're in the animals area, there is poop scattered all throughout. It's not a big deal, you just have to watch where your step and keep an eye on little ones so they don't pick it up -- our kiddo is in a rock collecting phase and picked up poop once but that was it. It was a good trade-off for animals visiting our tent regularly. Sophia the shepherd dog is a big sweetheart and scares away wild critters. Our toddler LOVED chasing animals in the pasture but also loved going to see the animals in the petting zoo. There are quarter machines to get specialized pellets for each type of animal. My favorite animal was Rupert the tiny black lamb! Such an energetic and social little one!! - There is also a big playground with a lot for kiddos to do - Portapotties were very clean and even had cleaning solution inside if needed. - Staff were so friendly and nice. - fresh eggs for sale in the barn were yummy - school field trips on weekdays and family trips on weekends mean there were other kiddos in the petting zoo which was fun for our little one The only issue we had was with freezing weather -- completely out of the camp's control

Absolutely wild but in the best way possible. It was such a unique experience but we loved every second of it! Lois, the host, was so nice and helpful, just all around a great person to host. The animals were super friendly and loved all the pets and snacks. Overall a great place to stay, highly highly recommend for any group. We are college students, writing the review and it was like we were little kids at the petting zoo again, absolutely loved it, can’t say enough.

Lois and company immediately made us feel at ease. The area is beautiful. Animals are loved, property is loved. Try to come with some extra time to hang out with the animals. It is truly cool and therapeutic. We were short on time, but loved it nonetheless. Very clean outhouse, potable water. Solid.

A Wonderful and Unique Experience!
We had such a wonderful experience. As a lot of people have mentioned, Louis is great. She is so helpful and welcoming. The animals were a hit with the kids. We got daily visitors to our site (goats, the dogs: Oliver and Sophie, the Kevins, donkeys, etc). It was such a unique experience, I can't say enough good things. Go experience it yourself. The pens are clean, the animals look happy and healthy. Just a heads up, trains do go by frequently, by the second night, we slept through most of it. :) Thank you Louis for sharing the farm with us!
