The campground is remotely located on private property and perfectly located for excursions to the Pacific Ocean, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Smith River National Recreation Area, and the Pacific Coast Ranges and mountain lakes such as the Devil's Punchbowl, Buck Lake, and Raspberry Lake. Relax and free you mind while camping on 120+ acres of private property under starry skies with almost no light or noise pollution. You are not alone on the mountain as other people live here in the wild. You only have access to the campground and a nearby pond. A locked gate with code access. The road to get there is two and a half miles up the mountain, the first mile is paved and the other mile and a half is gravel. The road is maintained by the county and used daily by others that live and work here. In the surrounding area you can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, beachcombing, birdwatching, and countless other outdoor activities. French Hill Trail is a few more miles up the mountain road. The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings, and campers are provided with 5 gallons of potable water. An outdoor, COLD-water Artesian shower, out in the open mountain air with the wild things and an outhouse with a compost toilet are also provided. Bundles of firewood are available for an extra charge when you book your campsite. The campsites are set within a deciduous and pine forest at about 1913 feet in elevation. There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat ONLY, so water activities are NOT allowed. NO swimming, NO fishing, NO boating, NO trapping, etc. The wild things live here! The property owner has a dog, three cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. They do make noise! Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). Kirk can tell you about his experiences with this and other phenomena on the property.

The Klamath River is just over the levee, only a short walk from camp. It is a beautiful place to fish, swim, explore, or simply sit and enjoy the water. The river is known for salmon and steelhead fishing, and a valid fishing license is required. During peak fishing season, especially in August and September, you may hear early morning activity from guests heading out to the river. We are located about 4 miles off Highway 101, close enough to be convenient but far enough away to feel tucked away from the rush. Wildlife is common in the area, so please secure your food and trash at night. There is so much to explore nearby. Guests love visiting Redwood National and State Parks, Trees of Mystery, Klamath River Jet Boat Tours, coastal viewpoints, hiking trails, biking routes, and quiet places to wander among the redwoods. The Redwoods Bend Retreat is a place to get away from it all. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service. Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch. Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental. Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away. Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings. We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp. We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer. We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

This campground felt like a community. While we weren’t at our site much due to exploring nearby parks, whenever we were there we felt welcome. The hosts invited everyone to a smore campfire and the kids played on the fire swing whenever they could. This campsite is very conveniently located between the north and south parts of the Redwood National park, close to the ocean, and yet secluded enough to enjoy quiet time as well. Right before heading out the kids even got to pick some blackberries and we were gifted with a delicious blackberry crumble.

What a wonderful little oasis, central to so much exploring! Cortney and her family were so accommodating and friendly! Helping us find the best fishing spots, even gifted my husband a lure to use 🥹 The camper seemed brand new! So clean and stocked with everything we could need. Had a few neighbors but not close enough to feel like a normal campground. Spent many hours in the hammock reading or by a campfire. Can’t wait to bring our kids back for another adventure!

The redwoods are my favorite place on earth, and this trip with my son was everything I hoped it would be. We stayed at the campsite recently taken over by Hiram and Cortney, and honestly, this young couple has turned the family business into something special, a place that's actually as beautiful and fun as camping should be, not just on paper. The site sits literally next to the river, it's spotless, and Hiram and Cortney are always around when you need them without ever being in the way. The trailer itself is sharp and comes stocked with every amenity you could want, including a smart TV, which turned out to be the real MVP after a long day of hiking with a toddler. Cartoons at the end of the day saved us more than once. The location is unbeatable too, close to Crescent City, Trees of Mystery, and Prairie Creek, with plenty of breakfast spots in Klamath to fuel up before hitting the trails. They also have firewood available to grab for a small fee, which made evenings by the river even easier. If you work remotely, the WiFi was surprisingly great. And they've got tent sites and RV sites too, with more lodging plans in the works over the next year. Book now, honestly. Amazing campsite with beautiful vibes. Everything is beautifully set up and very comfortable. There is a heater in the tent for if it’s cold, firewood provided, and coffee materials for the morning! Only note is that there is a nearby rooster that was quite loud in the early morning. Other than that though, we had a wonderful time and it was a great glamping experience!

Highly recommend this campground centrally-located to Redwood Parks. Cortney was kind and accommodating, she let us pick the berries that were all around the property. Bathrooms were clean and in good shape. It was nice and quiet in the evening hours.

What a treat this little spot was ! Even though you are right off the road, it still gives the feeling of being remote . We had no reception at all there, which was great for us but might not be for others. The cabin with a toilet is a nice additional comfort! The land itself is really beautiful and has wonderful energy! It was a short , last minute stay and we didn’t end up checking out the river spot, which I regret. Would definitely stay again ⛺️

We had a great time here! The hosts were very friendly, the campground was clean, the showers were hot and the bathrooms were always clean and stocked. Had no issues at all hooking our camper up to electric. Beware there is no phone service for miles! We brought our Starlink and had a great connection the whole time.

Had such a wonderful time/experience visiting Hanya's farm. Was welcomed by Dar the Camp Host and friends. They cooked me dinner unprompted and was served hot mashed potatoes, rice, chicken, black beans, homemade bread, and fresh corn on the cob. Felt like i was part of the family and back at summer camp. The site itself was beautiful and warm with free range sheep (wan&others), chicken and ducks wandering out the camp sites. Feel free to pick any fruits or veggies around their farm land for a fresh salad. Amenities included hot showers both indoor and outdoor.

About

When a place is known as the spot “where the redwoods meet the sea”, you are kind of expecting something extraordinary. And, friends, the Tolowa Coast does not disappoint. Moving towards the sea, Tolowa Dunes State Park, just south of the Oregon border, covers 5,000 acres that include some of California’s most exquisite wetlands, and encompasses ocean beach, river, open/vegetated sand dunes, wooded ridges, in addition to the wetlands. The native people who lived on the land, the Tolowa Dee-Ni, survived for thousands of years on the rich abundance of plant and wildlife, and the park is situated on their ancestral grounds. Literally hundreds of species of plants and animals call the Tolowa Dunes home, and a days hike easily takes you along wild, untouched Pacific shoreline, past the dunes that give this park its name and protect the ecologically diverse wetlands, by the largest estuarine lagoon on the west coast, and through coastal forests and meadows blooming with flowers found nowhere else in California. The Tolowa Dee-Ni referred to this land as the “Center of the Universe”, and we think, after spending some time here, you can’t help but understand why.

When to go

The prime time to visit Tolowa Dunes State Park is during the summer months, with temperatures ranging from the 60s to 70s. Winter brings cooler days and the bulk of the annual rainfall, making it less ideal for outdoor activities. Plan your visit between June and August for the best weather and vibrant wildflower displays.

Day use areas are open from sunrise to sunset, perfect for a full day of exploration.
While dogs are allowed, they are not permitted on trails, so plan accordingly.
