Hawks Hideaway offers 8 campsites suitable for tents of all sizes, many of which can accommodate two or more tents (additional fees may apply). We also have a large, unfurnished teepee, and are working on a cozy, furnished country cottage. (ETA Sept 25). Large trailers and RVs are NOT allowed.
Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study.
We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead.
There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area.
Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream.
Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature.
Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects.
You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk. Please do not interact with any wild animals. If you encounter something and need help, please reach out to us. We live on the property and are readily available.

The road to reach us is breathtaking in itself with ancient Sinaguan Ruins and strangely beautifully sculpted landscapes along the River drive. Enjoy miles of forests, rivers, lakes, swimming, hiking, mtb, all near by and all while being comfy and cozy for a nights recharge to do it all again after a hot shower or Jacuzzi.
Each Cabin is fully equipped (hot water/basic appliances/kitchen/bathroom/dishes) as an Adventure base during your stay providing a comfortable, cozy and unique location for couples or small groups to enjoy while adventuring and creating memories in the area. We provide various suggestions on local activities for our guests to enjoy as well as helpful tips to get the most out of their stay. Your Host is a professional Outdoor Adventure guide with years of experience all over the Southwest and Costa Rica and always happy to help with adventure shine!

Our sunsets and night star-gazing are just spectacular and we're enough off the beaten path that there's no crowds or traffic to deal with, but you are close to dining and area attractions.
This is a quiet, rural neighborhood and a peaceful farm that borders the National Forest for easy hiking and few neighbors. The farm animals do cluck, crow, whinny, neigh, baa, bleat, squeal, and oink at various times, including early morning.
There is one mile of a somewhat bumpy gravel road with hills to reach our neighborhood, so please make sure you are ready for that and have adequate towing power. The nearest services and dining are 5 minutes away. We are about 25-30 minutes to Sedona, the Village of Oak Creek,
and the popular red rock hiking sites. There are many wineries and dining right down the road to enjoy.
1 hour to Flagstaff, 2 hours to Phoenix.

Such a perfect stay! The cabin is perfect size for two people and the hot tub was perfect as well. There’s bamboo outside that helps with the privacy which is very nice! The location puts you out in nature but also very close to downtown Cottonwood which was a blast to visit! We will for sure be back!

Jennifer and George are the perfect hosts. There if you need them and otherwise give you your privacy. It’s a perfect location for hiking Sedona. I could be on the trail in 20 min. Also from camp it’s a great walk down to Oak Creek low water bridge. I stayed for 4 nights and then rebooked for 12 more!!

Otter limits was peaceful and the location was perfect. We had a small group with two travel trailers (15 ft and 19 ft) that fit perfectly in the space. Walking to the river access point was easy and we had great weather.

1 night at Sacred Springs-Private creek access
Oh boy, my partner and I could not have enjoyed this place more! Such a beautiful, intentional and inviting space. Gary and Daren are wonderful people who made sure we had everything we needed to feel at home! The stars at night were unbelievable, community room had literally everything we could ever need and more, and the space heater above the toilet changed my life. Cannot recommend this place enough!

First time booking anything like this so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Start to finish it was amazing. Gary greeted us at the gate even as we got turned around from a flooded road (which he’d advised us of but I just didn’t read carefully lol) and showed us around all the amenities at the camp site. You could practically show up in your car with just your change of clothes, there’s everything you can think of. Gary and Darren were always available accommodating for the cold snap, and our incessant need for firewood. The paddle boarding was really fun and the rest of the site was beautiful. It didn’t feel like a hotel it felt like you were crashing at your friends place it was such a warm and welcoming environment and very relaxing.

We had a wonderful stay at Mary’s site. She was very responsive and friendly. My daughter enjoyed meeting her cute little puppies and seeing all of the animals nearby. The views are beautiful and there are some hiking trails in walking distance from the campsite. We had so much fun hiking in Sedona, we ended up staying a second night. Would definitely recommend!

We love coming to Sacred Springs, every time we need a break from the city and the valley and need to get back to nature and reset, it’s off to see Gary and Daren. Amazing place, amazing vibe, amazing hosts, amazing everything! We just got home and already can’t wait to be back!

The location, surrounding, and host were awesome! We enjoyed our nightly owl visit and Vicky’s great stories about her connection to the area. Nice and close to Sedona. We stayed an extra night to take in the nearby hiking and ruins. Highly recommend staying here!

We had a wonderful time at Laura’s ranch! The property is beautiful and we loved seeing the goats and llamas. Laura was incredibly friendly and the campsite and facilities were perfect. We took the alternate route in with our Prius and had no issues navigating the dirt road.

We had a lovely stay at Mary and Greg’s place. We were here for around 3 weeks and enjoyed both the location and the lovely trails accessible from the backyard. It was just a few minutes from West Sedona nestled in a quiet neighborhood. I went on a nearby hike with Mary and the two pups one day and they also had a propane fire pit available for us to use. We have a 30’ travel trailer and Ram 2500 (8’ bed) and didn’t have any trouble getting to the property or getting parked. We will definitely keep them in mind the next time we are in the area.

About
You decide if this place is a desert or pine forest in central Arizona. It depends on where you visit. See brown scrub vegetation and desert surroundings at lower elevations. Hike, drive, or climb upwards to find a mountainous landscape dominated by Ponderosa pines.
This vast area offers plenty to do. Drive to Palace Station, just south of Crooks Canyon. You won't find many people here because it's a ghost town in the Bradshaw Mountains. One lone building remains, and it's pretty much in the same condition as it was in the early 1900s.
Pan for gold in Lynx Creek to appreciate what pioneers went through. You might see one tiny flake of gold in an afternoon. Call ahead as Lynx Creek may not be open during inclement weather.
Camp underneath tall pine trees for some shade at upper elevations. This forest features RV, tent, and equestrian sites, as well as cabins.

Like the other reviews shared, the campsites are right off of the road, and there are a lot of ATVs that go by during the day on the weekend, but it quiets down in the evening. Pretty setting and not far from town. There were some gross spots where you could tell previous campers didn't dig holes to go #2, which was not fun with dogs. But overall not a bad spot.

It's an ok campground. The best part of the campground are the host. There are recycling toilets. Drinkable water.
But the forest service doesn't do much here. The lower water spigot is STILL missing the top plug, so when you go to get water is blows out of 2 holes instead of one. Get ready to get wet. Site 16 has the largest ant hill I've ever seen. If you stay there you will get accosted by them. There are also bookoos of tent caterpillars in the oak trees directly over where you park.
When you go to reserve, there are rarely openings of any length. But when you arrive, those supposedly reserved sites are empty. You need to occupy from first night. And get ready for it to sound like your in a dog park. RUDE thoughtless dog owners!

Right off the 89A if you use some active imagination the sound of traffic might be wind in the pines. The put toilets are not kept clean and rowdy campers party all night with no concern for the rest of the camp.

Beautiful campground. Clean. Quiet. Spacious sites far apart. Great fire ring. High marks for composting toilets! Zero odor. (Do be aware of bees and wasps at the fresh water fill station though.)

There is no swimming or powered boats in the water but the canoeing is nice. There is also a good walking path around the entire lake which is also connected to a decent restaurant that serves German food.

Doing a cross country camping trip, and after I couldn't find access to another site, I settled to Mingus Mountain. I'm really glad I had to resort to plan b. Mingus mountain may be in my top 5 all time now. To think you can camp here for less than $20 dollars is pretty crazy. I think they could charge $100 and people would still come. Check out the photo of the scenic view I uploaded and you'll see why. So quiet and peaceful up here. Even the drive up here is worth jt. I'm 5 days in on my trip staying a new place each night. This one is going to be hard to leave.

Tried getting here from the East. Google maps, which is 99% reliable kept putting me on really old roads that resembled four wheeler trails. Each one taking me to a locked gate on private ranch land. The sun was setting, so I had to give up after an hour. Go to Mingus Mountain instead, if you're coming from the East. It's worth the change of course.
