Set above the historic town of Madrid N.M. is Waldo Mesa, the location of past mining operations and stunning vista's.The campsite is 0.9 miles off highway 14 in the historic town of Madrid and up to the mesa. Site 1 can accommodate RV's and tall setups as well as tents. The hill going to the site is short, approx. 0.2 ml. Its dirt and rock and a little steep but everything from bikes, motorcycles, sedans and buses can easily navigate without bottoming out, just take it slow. It has beautiful mesa views with plenty of privacy and nice outhouse within 50 yards. Madrid and sister village, Cerrillos are loaded with places to explore on foot or by other means. Both towns are very rich in history, from past ocean existence to Native American civilizations, silver and gold mining to booming wartime coal mining industries, to ghost towns.

There are beautiful views and access to Shaggy Peak, the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please).
IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! Be aware that the roads can be snowy, icy or muddy and rutted ( 4-wheel or All-trak recommended in certain times of year). We don’t guarantee the road will be plowed.
We generally close for the season due to cold weather around Halloween and reopen just before Memorial Day.

Drinking water filtration is through Waterdrop Reverse Osmosis Water Purification System G3P600: pre-RO carbon and particulate filter, then RO, then post-RO carbon filter, then UV sterilization, then remineralization… you get the safest water that “tastes” great! Conserve drinking water by using direct well water for other purposes — also safe, but does not use up the filtering and conditioning resources.

Ultimate peace and privacy. Nestled in juniper-wooded hills with sweeping views. Close to Albuquerque (20 minutes) and Santa Fe (40 minutes) but feels like a secluded retreat.
Most people have no problem finding my place by entering my address in their GPS. However, I have had 2 HipCampers report their GPS directed them to a road called Camino de las Brisas or Las Brisas Loop.
Turning here will lead you to a steep, dangerous road where it will be very difficult to turn around if you're in an RV and impossible with a trailer. Continue on Camino de Las Huertas to Senda Osa Vieja. It's marked with a street sign, a stone monument with brass plate. There's also a blue "private road" sign with a dragon.
This land was purchased in 1956 by my archeologist parents because of the ancient pueblo site (dating from 1000 A.D.) and pit house sites (dating from 800 A.D.) Until the mega drought seriously impacted the land, a stream ran through it year round. Now it is only intermittent. Across the valley from this property, and within view of the campsite, is the site of a Spanish Colonial village, San Jose de las Huertas. It dates from the 1700s and is now owned by the Archeological Conservancy. This area is rich in history both Native American and Spanish.

Nothing much here but a place to get away for the night and still be close to the city. You will need 4x4 to comfortably make it to this site!! Not all of us have a weekend free but we might be able to get away for the night and a breakfast before having to return to soccer games or meetings. This is also a great spot to get out and try out new gear without exposing yourself to a long difficult haul only to find out you forgot the propane or the shovel. Take the 5 minute drive from civilization and find yourself far enough away to breathe easier. Cross the dry, sandy, river bed and you’re almost there. Two Hawk Ranch is comprised of 12 acres of high mountain valley meadows, hay fields, Acequias, trees and the Rio Chiquito. Yes, we are located at approximately 7,800ft elevation. My husband and I stumbled across this beautiful and serene property by accident in 2020 just as Covid hit. We feel blessed to be here and feel the need to share it’s calming, restful qualities. We have three adult children and have three grandchildren. We also have eight international children as we hosted international students for four years. You are welcome to come sit by the fire and be social or just do your own thing.

Sites located across the property for up to 8 groups. The RV camping is located near one of our horse corrals and above our irrigation Acequia, above or next to the house, or in the field down by the arena after haying is complete (usually after the first week of July as long as the rain cooperates). Can back in or pull through and has 110v power nearby. No water to hook up to, but we can fill your tanks via hose by the house or arena. Other sites available if you don’t need power, or have a generator.
Property is within a 100yds of national forest service that gives access to off-roading, hiking, biking, horse riding, fishing, and winter snowshoeing, cross country skiing, etc. We are located just off the High Road to Taos in Llano, 29 miles south of Taos and 55 miles north of Santa Fe. We are eight miles from Ski Sipapu and eight miles from Rio Santa Barbara Canyon.
Your well-behaved pets are welcome. We also have one great dane (Raggy), a great dane mix (The Morrigan), one ranch cat (Sasha) and four horses (Gentry, Shadow, Mattie & Jr G). The dogs are a rescue of some kind. The Morrigan is black, 3.5 yrs old and comes out of a rescue in AZ. She went in with her litter as a 5 month old puppy, and she came here about a year later. She is reticent and suspicious, so ignore her and she will come up to you on her own; continue to ignore her. Ragnar (Raggy) is our most recent rescue and is from Las Cruces. He's 3 yrs old and a merle. He suffers from anxiety and fears children. We are working him through his fears, and he is doing really well.
The weather here tends to run cooler, as we are located in the mountains in a small valley at approximately 7,800 ft above sea level. In the spring through fall, temps will average from mid 40°F up to mid 60°F at night and mid 60°F up to mid 90°F during the day. Temps can get into the 100°F's in the summer, but that is rare. Generally if the sun is out, it is warm or hot even tho the actual temps are not. It's a high-altitude affect. The opposite is true as well. Cloud cover will feel cooler. We also experience monsoon style rains that occur in the afternoon generally starting in July and running into August or later.
In the late fall through early spring during winter, the average temps usually run from 0°F up to mid 20°F at night with occasional dips into negative temps and in the day generally run from mid 20°F up to the mid 40°F range. Same as above - if the sun is out, it will feel warmer, etc.
We do hay the fields, so we may have tractor activity going on in the late spring and early summer. In the winter we will be clearing snow from the roads and feeding hay.

With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and/or a repellent work great.
Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.

Welcomed near the Ranch gate by host, Victoria, who was very friendly, helpful and informative.
The site was level, spacious with great hookups. The ranch is beautiful, very clean and organized. My nature companion dog, Benito had 2 nights of good sleep and much needed respite from long travel.
I highly recommend this wonderful site that is far enough off the freeway (but not too far) with awesome views of the surrounding landscape!

We enjoyed our stay at this unique location. A nice gated yard which we had to ourselves in a (mostly) quiet neighborhood.
Be sure to visit the nearby petroglyphs national monument - a 1.5 mile walk to play eye spy with rock art. Piedras Marcadas Canyon Trail,

One nice bathroom and one nice shower that are a short walk away at the bathhouse. The host was very helpful .

What a beautiful spot to rest for the night. Quiet and clean. Hosts gave us the place all to ourselves. Just a note, it is tight getting into and out of this spot. We were 31ft TT and King Cab truck. It was a nail biter to back in and easier to pull out. If you are this size or smaller it is doable. There were two of us - TT travelling together. If it was just one of us, we would have had a much easier time. I definitely think this is a great place to stay.

Parking was a bit tricky because there was a bus and two cars in the yard. I have a 30ft Class C and had to reverse like Austin Powers in order to maneuver into the open spot (Site #1). I used a RV surge protector and the panel has an open ground warning. I took a chance and used the 30amp power and, luckily, had no issues. Luke provided trash and recycle bins. The recycle bin was small and full during my stay. It might be beneficial to get a larger bin because the wind would blow the recyclables around the yard. I enjoyed seeing the wild peafowls around the neighborhood. One day I got a visit from a peahen and she hung out around my RV for a bit. The location is close to a highway entrance which made driving around town quick and easy. Luke was very accommodating when I needed some assistance with my stay. Besides the small minor issues, I had a fantastic time. I traveled solo and felt safe and secure. If I relocated to Albuquerque, I would reach out to Luke about an extended stay in a heartbeat

The site was lovely. It was quiet and beautiful. We enjoyed the resident dogs who barked a bit at our dogs but caused us no trouble whatsoever. The bathhouse was clean and nice. Hosts were kind and responsive. Our dogs and disabled goat enjoyed this spot for relaxing when we weren’t hiking and exploring the Santa Fe area.

Camped 10/25-28 in spot #40 in the 3rd loop (farthest from the entrance). Roads were freshly paved so kids had a blast riding bicycles with other kiddos there. Bathrooms were clean, warm (it was chilly at night and snowed the last day), with running water/soap/ heat dryers. Both trash and recycle were on site. Friendly Rangers! The hike was fairly easy 1.5 miles to the Bandelier ruins.

Great campground, high pressure potable water nearby, flush toilets. Some campsite have shade trees, you have to get there early to get one of those sites! Lots of wildlife viewing, trail access to the beautiful Bandelier Nat. Monument and in the busy season free shuttle access from the parking lot to the Visitor's Center if you are tired from hiking! Supplies available nearby in the lovely town of White Rock!

The campgrounds are the only place you could access with a vehicle when I visited Bandelier , there is a trail you can hike down to the actual park or ride a shuttle. There were three loops of approximately 25 campsites each with an amphitheater in between them. First come first serve, pay the $7 or so at a automated machine. There was an RV sanitation site there. Fires were allowed within the supplied rings but firewood gathering was prohibited. Beautiful place to explore!
