No toilet/water, trash everywhere
When we arrived there was trash everywhere. The ad says there would be potable water as well as a pit toilet, however the water did not work and there was no toilet at all. The tent side also seemed like it hadn't been tended to in quite a while, there was a fire ring dug in a corner that was filled with debris and trash. The ad also states that small cars could cross the bridge to the tent side, however I think it is mainly meant for ATV's, we didn't trust it enough to take our small car across it. I would not recommend this camp. It felt more like a side-of-the-road turn out than a campsite.

Great spot on the river.
Great secluded campsite. Near the road but only 1 or 2 cars went by throughout the holiday weekend. There is no sign to mark the campsite so pay close attention to pictures and directions.

Great weekend away
We enjoyed our weekend camping trip to Burke’s outpost.
We rented the main site as well as the tent site so that we would have the place to ourselves (From reading the reviews, I believe there used to be 3 listings but there is only 2 now which avoids a lot of confusion, which I appreciated!)
Tad met us at the camp the night we arrived and answered our questions. He was very nice and said he would be down the road should we need him, but we didn’t.
We had 3 vehicles, one of which is a truck/5th wheel that is 45’ long. The 5th wheel we backed in down the driveway so we didn’t have to worry about trying to turn around. We had plenty of room to spread out for our tenters and for the dogs and kids to play. We loved having an off leash camp site for our 5 month old puppy’s first camping trip so he could learn all about camping. With the trailer to our backs and the rushing water to the front we barely noticed the traffic on the road above us.
We are in the middle of fire season and there is a burn ban in effect so we used our propane firepit but the huge firepit at the site looks like it would be epic to use when it’s safe. We were a little disappointed by the amount of broken glass around having 3 dogs and 2 kids with us, so we spent a lot of time picking up the bigger sharp pieces but never had any injuries. The site was pretty clean, the porta potty was the cleanest we’ve ever seen and was very convenient for our tenters. We brought an extension cord with us to hook the trailer up to the power and Tad already had extra long hoses hooked up so we were able to use that and didn’t need ours.
Some notes for future campers:
The terrain is very gravely. Don’t expect to be able to drive tent stakes into the ground very well if at all.
There isn’t cell service at the camp which is nice but should you need it, you can get cell service down the road heading back to Wallace pretty easily.
The creek is not very accessible in that it’s a few feet down and is accessed by slippery rocky shores so bring some good water/ hiking sandals. There are a few places where it’s deep enough for the kids to really get wet. It was dang cold (which was to be expected of course) but our kiddos enjoyed it. Keep in mind our kids were around 11 years old though. Our golden retriever, who is 8, struggled with the current and the rocks when trying to play in the water with the kids. Overall, I don’t think the site would be appropriate for little kids that want to play in the water.
Having an easily accessible private site with power, water, and creek to play in is a great find though… we all agreed we would be back!

Unexpected beauty
What a lovely place to camp! The road leading to it is quite misleading as you navigate through the town of Burke, but once you get through it you'll find a beautiful campsite with wildflowers and the tranquil sound of the river. We will be back!

Perfect getaway
Lovely location and host. While only a short drive to downtown Wallace, this campsite is peaceful and well-equipped. The creek is a wonderful amenity and adds to the tranquility.

We had an absolute phenomenal time here! The creek is gorgeous, the portapotty is a great addition, and the multiple tent spots was great as we were a fairly large group. We ended up not being able to buy wood in Wallace like we were hoping, so we contacted Tad and he brought wood out to our site (twice!) and was extremely kind and helpful! The site is a little exposed to the road that people seem to drive on quite a bit, but otherwise, it was very tucked away! The creek was very high, fast, and very cold, so not great for swimming, but was fantastic to cool and rinse off in. We absolutely plan on returning in the future!

Outstanding stay, beautiful site!
We had an outstanding time at Burke Outpost. We had two campers, a tent, and plenty of room to spread out and play since we had booked the whole thing. The site itself is beautiful, and the sound of the creek running all day and night is something I am still missing many days later. Plenty of fun to be had in the surrounding areas, both up the forest road into the mountains or down the paved road into the Burke ghost town and beyond. Tad was an amazing host, and seems like a really great guy in general. We highly recommend you consider booking this place and booking as much of the space as possible for your group so you can take full advantage of the property. We will certainly be back!

Private site, electric and water
Great private spot with a bubbling river. Water and electric hookup were a great plus. Didn't meet the hosts, but site upkeep was great. Solid choice for our brief stop through ID.

Wonderful but confused at first
This was our third time and and by far the best because what we were told was true ( that its a one camper sight) but as of one week ago was told it was and ended up sharing with others

Of the 3 sites one is perfect and lovely for tenting. The other two are more suited to campers. If a tenter arrives and doesn't get the tenting site, they may be disappointed. We had the tenting site and it was great - right by the river. I never got any specific directions from the host, and cell service is not available. Study the site location carefully on your computer before you head out. Really zoom in on the area, road and location and take notes. I do not advise arriving after dark if you don't get specific instructions on location. Port-o-potty was very clean and nice and big (handicap accessible size I suppose). Road to site is interesting as an old mining road/camp. Temperature really drops over night - August visit: 80 degree day but 39 degrees when we woke up in morning.

Remote, quiet, peaceful spot.
More accurate or detailed information would be helpful. We needed to know how long of an extension cord would be needed and that information was not given. The spots or lack of spots are not numbered. This would be an awesome spot for tent camping but you can't get a very big RV. We have a vintage pop up camper the needs level ground and it was hard to find. The creek and fire pits are wonderful. After getting over how hard it was to set up we fell in love with the spot. There was another camper there who had the best spot if it is a spot. Not big enough for several campers. BUT it's beautiful.

Awesome, remote site! Beautiful!
We loved staying here! it's a beautiful, tucked away site in an old mining canyon. the big fire pit cauldron is awesome for night time camp fires. Our dog and kids loved running across the little bridges and riding bikes around the area. they also played in the stream a bit but it's very cold of course. There was a surprising amount of traffic on this remote road and the road is right above the site but it didn't really hinder our experience-the sound of the stream was a pleasant background noise. The bathroom is a port-a-potty and was a little full. Our two families reserved 2 of the sites and no one had the third which I think was a lot better. i can see how it might be difficult sharing with 3 different groups of people given the layout of the space and the bathroom/campfire. we would definitely come back again sometime!

Definitely recommend
Burke Outpost served as a perfect camping spot for our two families. We did the Hiawatha bike trail and were able to come back to our awesome spot with running water and fun for our kids to play. The fire pit cauldron was amazing. We all agreed that it exceeded our expectations and would recommend it. Our only complaint is the potty box was gnarly and hadn’t been cleaned/pumped in a month according to the log in there.

River camping
Such a pretty spot by the river. There was a nice table and chair set to use with a fire pit. There was some some construction noise going on for a couple of hours on what will be a pretty log cabin when its done. The host helpfully let me know about a road closure before I set out which helped me plan.

Good for tent camping
We were uncomfortable backing our 24 foot trailer and truck down the 100 yard gravel road to either available campsite. There was not room to turn around in the limited camping area. Without doing that we had no access to water or power. Glad we brought a generator. We camped at the top of the road in a gravel parking lot. It was quiet. Might be easier if you have a tent trailer. Tenting is the best option. Probably shouldn’t plan to have water or power. Tad was friendly.
