Perfect getaway
Perfect getaway! Russ’ cabin has everything for a fun glamping. It has a flush toilet and a shower, kitchen area complete with pots, a pan, plastic plates, bowls, basic utensils, chopping board and percolator. I love that he has a compost bin! We didnt have to bring camping chairs because his place covers all that! The hammock added to a laidback vibe. All we needed to bring was food, drinks and portable stove! Russ welcomed us when we arrived which we appreciate but gave us privacy all throughout our stay. We felt safe and fully relaxed!

To be frank, Russ's rustic cabin is more comfy and cozy than most hotel rooms! We were pleasantly surprised to find this gem. The cabin is stylish and good vibes seem to be built right in. The bed is super comfy, the running water/sink along with the flush toilet and solar shower is a great plus. The deck and outside lounge area though... just something amazing and peaceful about it. Almost wanted to sleep outside! Nice big table, a hammock, a space to meditate, and a great little spot set up with some crafts made by the hosts. We ended up purchasing a very cool necklace.
The hosts are absolutely wonderful and willing to connect and chat when available but were also very mindful of privacy. We would have loved to spend more time getting to know them. That said, we were only disappointed to get there and have to leave the next day!
Can't recommend this stay enough. I have a feeling it may end up getting booked out quite often in the near future so definitely don't pass this one up if it is available. We feel a trip to Nevada City is worth it just to stay at Russ's cabin!

R3 was great! We highly recommend a stay at Russ's Rustic Retreat. It is close to the great town of Nevada City yet set in a quiet setting among the pines and cedars of the foothills. We swam in many deep swimming holes in the beautiful Yuba River and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon floating on Scott's Flat Lake. Russ is an excellent host and has created a very relaxing and peaceful space to enjoy the mountain air.

I loved, loved this darling handcrafted pallet cabin. It was just perfect for me and my dog. Close to Nevada City. Private space/yard and very safe, being a solo woman traveler. I will This is my new go to stay when visiting the area. You must stay here!

TeRRRific RRRetreat!
Russ was an amazing host! His place was cozy and had everything we needed. We ended up sleeping in our little trailer but used the space for showers and to relax. We brought our habachi stove out and had a picnic on the outdoor table. It was a perfect place to chill before making our way down south. Russ is not only an upbeat and friendly guy, he’s also got a sweet little shop of some crafts he’s been making in his spare time. Thanks for taking care of us Russ!

Central & lovely Nevada City abode
Russ was very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. He gave us great suggestions of local swimming spots and Nevada City. Made my friend, pups, and I feel very comfortable and relaxed. Enjoyed the hammock and also the ambiance with a vase of flowers at the table. Such a cute spot that Russ made himself with his bare hands!

Nice private and comfortable stay
This was a great private spot. It’s in a neighborhood and just off the road so you do hear a bit of surrounding noise during the day but it’s quiet at night (save for the occasional rustling of a woodland creature). The place was clean and Russ and Kim were kind. I definitely recommend it!

Love this spot! Russ’ cabin is awesome, I’ve stayed here twice now and would keep coming back!! The cabin was built very thoughtfully and has everything you need. Would highly recommend for a couple or 2-3 friends !!

Enchanted stay
What a fantastic host Russ is! His darling little house he made out of pallets is solid and wonderful and magical! I was expecting to set up my tent it I didn’t need to. I could roll out my sleeping mattress and sleeping bag on the floor and was bug free and cozy! The attention to detail was incredible! Cut flowers on the table, flush toilet, solar shower, kettle for hot water and picnic table and hammock outside. And right in darling Nevada city!

I love the way Russ greets us when we visit. A genuine welcome both times we’ve stayed. When we were packing up he asked how it was and wished us safe travels. The glass addition makes for an even more comfortable stay without mosquitos. His garden is bright with sweet peas and snapdragons. There was a sweet list inside for us on the table. Nice touch.💐

Great Nevada City gem!!
We had a really wonderful time staying at R3! The glass front really makes it the perfect glamping experience, no rent required. Russ is a fabulous and friendly host, kind and welcoming to humans and pups alike. And the location can’t be beat for adventures in Nevada City and the Yuba River!

Peaceful spot
Such a nice escape with glamping amenities. An easy drive from Sacramento, Russ greeted us as we pulled in and was easy to find. His glamping structure was a nice feature that had a great spot to roll out sleeping bags, be away from the mosquitos, have running water and a flushing toilet. We wished we stayed longer to enjoy the nice spot and solitude. We will be back.

Great place to spend time in NC!!
The place was amazing. Great location for biking in Nevada City. Russ greeted us and showed us around. The webber BBQ was a nice touch. We just brought an air mattress and sleeping bags, super easy. Will stay there again for sure!

We loved our stay on Russ’s land. It had everything we needed for a wonderful and comfortable time. The area was super clean and well taken care of. Russ was also so nice and helpful and offered us perfect recommendations for what to do in the area (we followed all of them and they did not disappoint). We could not be happier with our overall experience and can’t wait to come back.

Attention to every detail was what made this place so special. We felt so welcomed and at home during our weekend stay. And the solar shower was great!!! It was the best weekend away with our dog.

Camping with a big senior dog :)
I returned home and still kept thinking about the Russtic Roadside Retreat (R3). I love everything about it. The location is convenient, to historic downtown, to Railroad museum, and stores. The place is electrify and we had wifi. I love the feeling staying in remote, among redwood trees and convenient.
I appreciate Russ for thinking through about everything. I love there is a private flush clean toilet bathroom inside. We can take a hot shower (from solar) .. so convenient especially in the middle of the night . I love that there is a little mini kitchen with a sink and a pot to make a quick hot water. Russ even provided the BBQ stove, chais, plates, cups, utensils. We overpacked. And no bugs.
We went in Spring, in the middle of April. We were afraid we would be freezing cold. But actually it was comfortable. We brought plenty of blanket and did not put the tent up. There was a tarp that you can close it and keep the room warm. We rented the heater and that helped. Our dog sleep so well. He snored the whole time.
The 2nd night it was raining. I love the sound of the rain. It felt safe and comfy. Although Russ lived in the same proximity, we received privacy. It was not too close. If we need anything we can text Russ. He came to say hi at the beginning and left us alone. He texted to warn us about the weather (raining at night), and he came to say goodbye at the end.
My husband and I including our big labrador would definitely come back again. We love this place.
