An Isolated⛰⛰⛰Butte-iful Sanctuary
Dusty isolated roads opening into a creosote terrain full of darting jackrabbits and other desert critters, camping here is an escape to view the unique humble magnificence of these craggy crumbly buttes sitting solemnly maybe for always. We saw one or two other groups car camping as did we, tent camping for one night to view the stars. We had a normal cell signal the entire time, but that’s my experience, so it was beneficial to refer to a star map of Saturn following Jupiter. Follow Teds instructions and you can’t stray from the way, but hey familiarize yourself with the area before coming and you definitely learn an interesting thing or two about another little corner of the Mojave often overlooked by people passing through from the main highway. We don’t have an SUV but the dirt roads are totally doable to a normal car in good working condition. There’s no park services or anything like that out here like water or sewage so remember that. The pit toilet is a dug out toilet so expect that but it’s part of the charm of this wilderness, and come prepared with water and a full tank as you normally do in the desert. If you’re weary of other busy body group campsites this is desert serenity and the Buttes really are soothing wise monoliths to be awed by and respected, it’s a short walk from camp, we just drove to them a short ways at sunrise, it really is a sanctuary. I would definitely camp here again and have more fond memories to weave into my quilt of the Mojave. Thank You Ted for sharing this space with us.
