River, stream, or creek
LOCATED ON THE LITTLE KENTUCKY RIVER
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Not for heavy vans or rainy days.
The campground is really well maintained, and clearly the owners take pride in their little piece of Kentucky. Some sights are quite secluded, with lovely spots along the river. Other sites are closer together without much delineating one from the next. This is primitive, no hookup camping, though they say water and showers are available (I saw water hose and portalets). We were there in spring after a couple days of rain. It was soggy to flooded. They do advertise bringing your van, pop up, or RV, but it would have to be very dry. Seems better suited for tents or very light pop ups. No gravel, no pads. Ample firewood is available. Fire rings, charcoal grills, picnic tables, and trash cans are provided. Playground, small petting zoo area, lots of space to roam and the river is beautiful. I would not recommend this campground for RVs or heavier rigs. There is one RV site, but it looks to be permanently occupied. We parked on a gravel road after nearly sinking it to the frame in a site that got softer as we pulled in. For tenting groups or families, this could be heaven.
We booked this site with photography in mind during our stay. The place is very well secluded and peaceful. Steve was very nice and met us as we arrived with his little pup.
Primitve camping at its best.
It was a nice camp site, primitive: like I expected. If you have a family or a large group that wants to camp. There are several options. you have a large sunny field, a hidden away wooded area, or you can choose a shelter house/RV spot (it has electric). I think one other site had electric. You can explore the river (river was dry when we were there) or walk a short trail. There was a little dog running around. It was marking his spot on my tent, my screen house, my cooler and box of stuff I had sitting on the ground. That really soured me right off the bat. Now for primitive camping, Steve made sure we had wood for the fire. we were prepared for a cold evening as this was mid October and the first night was COLD. As the scouts moto goes be prepared for weather. We had our cars parked at the Cove entrance and it blocked the line of site to other sites.
We had a great night of camping at Hones Pointe. Our spot was beautiful, right by the creek which meets up with the river. So picturesque and the grounds were very well maintined with flowers and landscaping. There were a lot of nice touches such as electrical outlets and lighting at our site (not sure if all sites have that). Nice trails and bridges on our site, too. Firewood was delivered right to our fire pit with in mintues of requesting more. The only thing I could have wished for would have been a full bathroom (it was port-a-potty).
Best kept secret
This is a GREAT campground! You can tell Steve takes pride in his property by all of the details that he has put around every campsite. We arrived around check in time and were allowed to visit the camp sites and choose any open spot. They were so many by the creek. We had small children and picked a spot by the smaller creek. Each site has a grill, tons of tools to help you grill or roast s’mores on the fire, fire ring, picnic tables, bird feeders, and thermometer so you can check the current temps. The bathroom accommodations are actually port-a-potties scattered around the property, but do not be afraid, those were the cleanest potties I have ever seen -better than any gas station restroom, my friend exclaimed. There is a common area with more picnic tables, volleyball nets, soccer goalies for kids, and so much more. Several paths that wonder through each site can take you to the creek or the common area. He cut through the pasture to create a beautiful wild flower trail. There is a horse on the property (fenced in). His big are has a couple of small trees with twinkling lights that come up at night! Lots of seclusion. Sites are BIG and can accommodate several tents with space to spread out. He was very kind and welcoming to everybody in our party. He even welcomed us with a special treat. All the kids went in the creek, including myself lol. The water was perfect on summer afternoon. We are definitely going back. Steve was nothing less than amazing. This place is gem.
Exceeded my expectations
Camping is one of my favorite things and Hones Campground exceeded all my expectations! When we were there it was very cold but Steve the host was available every time we needed wood delivered to the site. The sites are private and have a lot of personal touches - we loved the Halloween decorations. The common area and animals are bonus and we will definitely be back. Thank you for a great weekend!
What a great camp site! There was a ton of stuff for the kiddos to do, beautiful sites right on the creek, and an adorable little petting zoo! Steve is super nice and accommodating. Me and the fam will absolutely be back. Thanks Steve!!!
Peaceful, fun, beautiful.
Very peaceful, beautiful surroundings, campsites were clean and well kept. Extra amenities, Grills with utensil, picnic tables, garbage cans, fire pits, at each site. Steve, the owner, was very friendly and welcoming. There is also a petting zoo!! We will definitely visit here again!!
Best campground there is!
Love this place. Will be camping here a lot. So much to do with badminton, cornhole, horseshoes, a petting zoo, and a swingset. The set up around the campground is so cute and fun plus a lot to look at. Every camping spot is nice especially the ones by the river! My favorite place
