The first time we viewed this property, we knew we were home.
The woods, fields, wildlife, and house (created almost entirely from the lumber harvested from the land) drew us in. We purchased the home and 40 acres in 2018.
Since then it has been a labor of love to make it everything we dream.
A campground suitable for horseback riding was the goal for W15266.
This was where the original homestead stood (firepit area).
That home was transported across 95 on Davis road to become an Amish home.
This area was overgrown and filled with rubbish, but still had a great deal of suitable plants hidden in the raspberries. We are continually working to groom it, and eventually, hope to better level the drive and sites and cover them with gravel.
We need more and better fire pits and intend to have at least one more cabin- perhaps created from a refurbished corn crib?
This cabin was refurbished in 2020 from the original homestead’s summer kitchen (where food was prepared to keep the house from getting too warm).
Although it may have been easier to demolish and start over, Julie convinced Craig that the history was worth it. ;) I can’t tell you how disGUSTING it was, but we found treasures like the chair upstairs, the ironing board, and items on the walls and cupboards amongst the piles of Asian beetles and mouse chewings.
Our current project you see in front is the bath/shower house.
It has a toilet and shower and was completed 2021. With expansion, we will add one more toilet on the other side.
The old shed in front, is a disaster.
We fluctuate the same way we did with the summer kitchen: bulldoze or refurbish? It currently houses our equipment and lumber, but someday, we are hoping to have a small country Tiki bar.
Craig has received the liquor license already.
We love tucked away country bars with unique flavors, so we hope we can offer this to our customers.
Jeske Equestrian is also a boarding/training facility.
We built the horse barn in 2019, and last year we put up a 60x180 indoor riding arena.
Maintaining and creating trails has been extensive.
Keeping up on the signage and the trail map has been nearly impossible since Craig loves creating new ones with the skid steer on a regular basis!
We are working on the pond area to be more recreational in our future as well.

Welcome ; Located in southeast Minnesota's Driftless region of hills, valleys, fields and forests, we are a grass based working dairy farm with over 100 acres of woodland,
including an extensive trail system and campsites in our wooded acres. What makes this woodland special is it's quiet, secluded setting and over 6 miles of hiking / skiing trails.
Our farmstead sits three quarter of a mile off the paved county highway on our well maintained gravel driveway.
Each of our campsites are secluded from the others with their own sawdust compost toilets, picnic tables, fireplaces, and firewood.
Two of our sites require 4WD with a minimum of 6 inches ground clearance
to access, and two are accessible with 2WD.
If you do not have 4WD we can help transport your gear while you enjoy the walk in.
There are plenty of woodland birds, deer, turkeys, raccoons and squirrels sharing the woods with you. At night it is common for owls to visit the campsite area to say hello, and coyotes talking in the distance. The winding trails through 100 acres of woodland offer a variety of woodland habitats, from Old growth Maple to mixed hardwood, to dense brush, to the edges of open pastureland. Bring your fat bike or mountain bike for an enjoyable ride.
For winter users there is a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging winter cross country skiing
or snowshoeing / hiking
on the property. However the Rock Bottom Cabin is our only heated and insulated site and is available for winter booking. Winter access is walk in only with snow on the ground or in the forecast. We can help transport gear.
This property is part of a working pasture-based dairy farm and guided tours of the dairy and cattle are available when scheduling allows.
Children 12 and younger are free at our campsites.
No need to be counted as guests , but please let us know when requesting to book.
We do not allow non-booked visitors to our campsites due to the secluded, remote location, and accessibility.

We had the most wonderful experience staying at this Hipcamp! From the moment we arrived, it felt special. The property is a beautiful wooded paradise, and the rustic cabin is tucked perfectly into the trees.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the kindest host who showed us where to park and gave us a map of the trails through the gorgeous woods. He walked us through the lay of the land and gave us a few helpful tips so we could make the most of our stay.
We loaded all of our supplies for the weekend into his tractor, and he led us down to the absolute cutest little cabin you could imagine. We didn’t have to worry about lugging our camping gear. The cabin had a cozy wood burning stove, and they supplied more firewood than we could possibly need for the whole weekend.
The out house was a compost toilet and was so nice and very clean. Everything about the place felt thoughtfully cared for.
We brought our dogs with us, and they absolutely loved exploring the trails and open wooded space. It was the perfect place to let them enjoy nature right along with us.
We spent our time exploring the trails and soaking in the peaceful energy of the land. It was truly a special place to reconnect to nature and relax. Our hosts, Mike and Joan, were incredibly welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed, including all the fresh water we could want.
This place is easily a 20 out of 10. We felt so welcomed and can’t recommend it enough. We will absolutely be back!

Weekend Trip to Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland
Mike and Joan thought of everything. It was a perfect short stay for us. We appreciated the kindness shown to us and the ride to and from the site. We had our own little spot in nature with everything we needed. Campfires were so easy with the setup provided. Loved the presence of drinking water and wash up water. The compost toilet bathroom was clean and perfect. I’d come back in a heartbeat. Remember to bring warm sleeping bags or blankets if you are headed there in the fall!

We loved staying on Candace’s land! Our kids and dogs felt right at home. It was upscale tent camping. We had a great outdoor fire for breakfast, dinner, and s’mores and a great indoor fire to keep us warm on the cool fall nights.
The beds were comfortable - especially when you’re used to a tent and a camping pad! And the house heated up so nicely. It was really nicely stocked - we normally bring tongs, spatula, etc. but there were some hung on the cabin which was a nice touch. It was really nice not to get service for a few days, enjoy the scenery, and bum around local towns. We’d absolutely stay again. ❤️

Was there over the weekend and it was all to myself. This driftless region has valleys which makes it more interesting and exciting. The campground is in pristine condition. The bathrooms were clean. They have lots of trails that takes you up the mountain and around. Donna’s daughter is an amazing host. Will definitely return.

Weekend Trip to Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland
We loved our weekend deep in the woods staying in the Wooden Tent.
Mike was great to work with and guided us right to the site and gave us a map of the trails to hike on. This is such a cool site and Mike and Joan's willingness to share their land with others. We had a few rain showers while trying to set up and the wooden tent was bone dry inside! The site has firewood, your own saw dust out house, garbage/ recycling, wash water, drinking water, chairs around the fire/ cooking area, they have literally thought of everything. Make sure if you visit you bring plenty of lights its dark dark that deep in the woods. It also seems 4-5 degrees cooler being that deep in the woods. We also didn't have any mosquitoes when we visitied mid September.
At night you could hear owls and coyotes off in the distance. We did not see a single other person while camping and the few other sites are far away from each other so the nature sounds can be heard all day and night! We will 100% stay here again in the future. I will never camp at a regular camp site with neighbors again after this experience! Thanks again Mike and Joan for sharing your land and a great/ cool experience.

Round Mound is an excellent campsite. Beautiful views, very private, and Mike and Joan and done a wonderful job taking care of all the little things to make it great (very nice and clean outhouse, firewood, trail map, drinking water, etc.) Mike greeted us and took us to the site - he was helpful, friendly and very accommodating. I highly recommend staying with Mike and Joan!

Such a cool and unique spot!! How often do you have the chance to stay in an old boat rescued from the bottom of The Mississippi. Mike was very nice and showed us around the property. It had everything we needed, firewood, water, chairs. And the outhouse was the cleanest one I’ve ever been in. Definitely would recommend!

This was our third time back to the Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland, and our second stay at Rock Bottom Cabin. We brought friends with us this time, as we knew they'd love it. The site is down into a valley, surrounded by hillsides full of trees. It is very spacious and private. The grill set up for cooking over the fire was great, especially for a group. There is wood on site for the fire. Picnic table is extra large. There is a large awning on the front of the cabin, which came in handy when we had rain one evening, and still wanted to be outside. Mike and Joan are gracious hosts who clearly care for their property. This can be seen through communication, how well thought out the sites are, and how the trails on the property are cared for. I have no doubt we will visit again in the future.

The whole experience was nothing but GREAT! We were motocamping and the site was easy to get to on our bikes had everything we needed. They think of everything a camper may need in terms of wood for cooking and campfire to water for both washing and drinking plus a nice sink area if you had dishes to wash. The outhouse is clean. Would highly recommend this place to others, the host were also very nice and made sure our stay was good.

With pets
Miek and Joan were extremely accommodating with our stay. First, there was rain in the forecast so they upgraded us to the Hilltop Queen, which was lovely! I was very impressed with the setup (of all the sites, we took a walk around) and the outhouse is the BEST I've seen on hipcamp (and there have been other great ones!). Fire pits, water, and refuse setup made all aspects of enjoying the site easy. There was no "oh this is hard bc we are camping", just pure enjoyment.
The trails were lovely and the map was much appreciated. We wish we could have gotten to explore more, but our dog got sick and we headed home early. Mike was really understanding and refunded us our unused night, which we were surprised by, because it was certainly not expected/necessary by our point of view.
Again, wish we could have fulfilled our stay and enjoyed another day, but hopefully we will be able to stop by again.

We had reserved campsite number 4, but when we arrived we were told that somebody was already on that spot. They had other sites available and we ended up at a site by the 13th disc golf hole. I was a little frustrated to start that we didn't get our original choice and that the site we had was like a third of a mile from a porta potty. But what started frustrating they more than made up for with the incredible scenery. Our site was pretty remote which is what we wanted so that our dogs could be off leash and free without concern because we have one reactive dog. They were off leash the entire time running through the woods and having the time of their life. It was so incredibly peaceful and we only crossed paths with maybe three sets of disc golfers playing the course. Other than that it felt like we had the place to ourselves. They do have really big shower /bathroom situation in their nice barn that we experienced on our way out.
