IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION: The river edge erosion wall construction is complete. The area is being prepared to have additional river sites added sometime in 2026 depending on vegetation growth. The entire Beach (R3 & R4) will be closed to Campers starting October 1. This is due to hunting season starting. Campsites in the main campground will be still available, but guests are not allowed on the lower 40. Contact Cal or check our Facebook page and web site for more information. The campground and rental house will open about May 15, each year. The English Pale Campground is located along the Black River in Jackson County, 1 mile west of the Village of Melrose. The entire property only allows guests and occupants who are 21 or older. Sites/house can be booked 6 months in advance. The main campground is 70 feet above the river. We have 5 rustic (no hook-ups) RV/Travel Trailer/Tent sites, a fully furnished “Manor” House, a travel trailer as well as 2 rustic beach sites that are located along the river. The property is a total of 70 acres, which includes the 4+ acre beach, a mile of river front and trails through the woods that connect them all. The English Pale opened in 2021 and is a developing property. In late summer of 2025 an erosion wall was built along the Black River. This included clearing of a section of the forest, building a gravel access road and an riprap river wall to prevent further erosion. Since 2016 over 60 feet of the riverbank has washed away. Our property offers a reasonable expectation of privacy and we do not offer day passes as our target guests are campers. We are an adult only property, but not a nudist campground, as that is not our central theme. We do not prohibit our guests from nudity for the purpose of sunbathing on the beach, campsites or sundeck, but nudity is not allowed in general common areas. Part of our nature is allowing discreet nudity for tanning purposes. While we target couples for time together, singles and groups are welcome. This is a very private location. In its former life this property was a limestone quarry. Evidence of it's history remain with high rock walls on both ends of the property. In the center of the property is about 5 acres that is flat and covered with wildflowers and small trees. There are several good options for camping in this area. Surrounding this area is another 15 acres of hills and trees. We have a scenic overlook open to all guests where you can relax and sit on a wooden swing while enjoying the beautiful view of the Mississippi River below. There is a boat ramp just a mile down the hill for boating or fishing on the Mississippi and the city of La Crosse, WI and La Crescent, MN are each only about a five minute drive. Creekside Sounds campsite was a perfect retreat for us! The campsite was tidy and located right next to the creek, but also surrounded by a large open grass field. The space felt secluded while also not feeling any sort of confinement. Plenty of area for our dog to play and explore without bothering any one... or cows! Jolene was a great host and provided us with everything we needed to have a wonderful time on the farm! Although it was tucked off the main road and back in its own little area, it was not as far from town or other amenities as it typically would be for that type of seclusion. Would highly recommend Jolene and her campsites to anyone.... we even hope to return!

The host did a great job of communicating clearly where to go to get to the site. The Quarry is a great place if you want to camp in the woods with no amenities and to rough it, which is what I was looking for. I really enjoyed my stay as it was exactly what I wanted.

We loved camping in Erica’s quarry! The views were beautiful and there was a state park 10 minutes away for even more beautiful views of the Mississippi River. Even with a couple other groups on the property, it was quiet and secluded in our little corner. The end of the drive was marked with a camping symbol and the instructions provided were clear. Would absolutely come back.

Big Trout Creek site did not disappoint! We had everything needed for a perfect stay and buying firewood right there was very convenient. Jolene checked in with us a couple times which was nice as well. Our pup wasn't sure about the cows the first day but by the end of our stay made peace with them!

This is my 7th time camping at Creekside sounds, its one of my favorite places to camp. I usually camp in a travel trailer with my hubby but he was unable to make this trip, so I decided I would go solo and pitch a tent. I have camped for 35yrs but I had never gone by myself. Jolene's place is the perfect spot for solo females wanting to get out. Its safe, the host lives on the property and always introduces herself(and is a lovely person), neighbors are friendly, fellow campers are always nice, clean porta- potty and no bears. Sit back and enjoy the creek sounds and birds. Things to do, nothing just relax, hike at Great River Bluffs SP, explore the Mississippi River, drive the Apple Blossom scenic Byway, bike the Root River Trail.

It was as described in the listing. The porta potty was very clean when we arrived. There was plenty of space between the sites for privacy. One thing that I was hoping for that didn't happen was to sit on the bench swing at the top of the Bluff with the Beautiful view, because it was broken. Erica did inform me that it was not yet fixed when we arrived. Also I think some should be aware that there is a steep gravel road that heads to the Quarry site. We did have to use 4 wheel drive to get there. Other than that it was great. I would recommend.

As stated in every other review, the camping spot is very scenic, nature filled and beautiful. Gregory is great as a host as he let us have our privacy, but checked in as we were driving or walking by. Just a note to get to the site: when you pull in the driveway, turn left and drive in front of the house. Then right after the house take a right and that trail leads you back into the woods by the river. I think he has a map that works great. Lacrosse and Lake Crescent are not far from this site if you wanna make a trip into town. The site itself is very open no backing up as needed. Just pull in where you wanna be. Big enough for a couple of campers and tents.

Was there over the weekend and it was all to myself. This driftless region has valleys which makes it more interesting and exciting. The campground is in pristine condition. The bathrooms were clean. They have lots of trails that takes you up the mountain and around. Donna’s daughter is an amazing host. Will definitely return.

Jolene's land took a piece of my soul. Seriously. Between the open space, perfect campfire ring, stargazing and burbling of the creek this was easily my favorite stay so far. The soft grass and sounds of the creek had my entire family sleeping soundly. No one wanted to leave this spot and we will be back. There was truly something serene and restful here.

A Phenomenally Beautiful Campsite with a lot of Area to Set up your Camp. The Streams were Gorgeous and Had Beautiful Sunsets. Gregory Drove to our Campsite in the early morning, waking us up, to Advise my Husband and Myself of the Rising Waters and the Next Huge Storm Surge coming our way! This is Unheard of, That A Man not only Checked out his Land, he Informed us of the Big Storms and Concerning Weather On the Front. Also, Delivered our Farm Fresh Eggs to our Campsite! Highly recommended!
