Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. Purchased in 2019, these overgrown acres are now a federally registered Farm with the crop being Trees, and have a 10 year Woodland Stewardship Management Plan with the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources. I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat, and native vegetation. 2024 saw the start of our EQIP contract which includes killing the non-native invasives, like Tree of Heaven, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, and more. 2025 was planting, staking, and tubing of 800 tree seedlings, including Black Walnut, Red Oak, Scarlet Oak, Sugar Maple, Persimmon, and Tulip Poplar. Learn more about this land: Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres while being the only campers on site. Provided are a 4x8 lean-to, outhouse, fire ring, and a spool table. Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. The pond is off limits for liability reasons. This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite.) You do have to hike in and out between parking area and campsite. It's about 500 feet from parking to campsite. Mostly level, with one short incline. 10 minutes from The Wilds. 10 minutes from I-70. 15 minutes from I-77 and Cambridge.

A beautiful secluded cabin near The Wilds Safari Park. We have 30 acres of property for you to explore and unplug and unwind on. The cabin is a bit off-grid meets high-tech. We are on a rainwater collection system that is permitted through the Health Department and our propane is trucked in, but we have electricity and Wi-Fi. There is no TV though you'll need to spend time talking, playing games and just enjoying the beautiful peaceful surroundings.

Great site- all the basic needs met. Electric and water hookup. Close to campus/ Athens. Was able to pull up next to a cement slab, which was great since it rained all weekend. Road was close but couldn’t hear traffic inside our camper. Well maintained spot. Definitely plan to come back a few times a year while kid is at OU!!

The host was very responsive and kind, and was an excellent host. He got us more firewood when we needed it and even offered us farm fresh eggs. The bike trails near by were also excellent and provided a very fun weekend.

2 nights at Pumpkin Ridge Retreat

First time staying here so I didn't really know what to expect. Not that it's a negative but it's not a traditional campground. It's essentially two sites on private property. Site 1, the site I stayed at, is the first site and is closer to the road. You can drive up to this one which is really convenient. The site was pretty flat and could easily accommodate a few tents. The picnic table looked pretty new and the fire ring was pretty large making it ideal for larger, hot fires. There's plenty of firewood on-site which was super convenient and they even supply a wheel barrow to get it to your spot. The porta-john was the cleanest I've ever used as well. Denise, the host, was great and was very responsive to messages. A+ there. The only downside was no real facilities so you can't shower. Not the fault of the host but noise was a minor issue from time to time. Dogs barking across the street late at night and people driving around loud off-road vehicles. Other than those small things, it was very quiet. No one else was there during my stay which was also nice. All in all, it was a good couple of days of camping. I would definitely return.

Very nice! Cabin was tidy and absolutely lovely for the price it was. It stayed warm all night even with how cold it was. The property was beautiful, plenty of firewood and interesting stuff to see. The owners were very kind! Cows were adorable, and their dog was sweet too. Definitely keep any pets close, because we heard a bunch of coyotes right on the ridge! We got steaks from their little store, which were also great and priced very well. Overall a great trip, just wish we could have stayed longer!

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp

Wife and I had all we needed at the Nature Camper. Camper has water, hot water, stove, oven, fridge, microwave, and a Solo Firepit on the private deck. Lots of charm inside, more like a tiny house with completely new appliances and birch walls. Best of all you are on 500 private acres. We hiked part of the 10 miles of trails in total privacy. Site also has huge grassy tent area you can expand into with large fire-pit - comes with the camper so no neighbors. Owner’s family goes back to the original log cabin, that is still there off one of the trails. Owner has made his own private preserve, He was interesting, respectful and responsive. Camper pdf had all the details you need. Easy drive to Marietta Ohio River historic areas, shopping, dining, activities, and Wayne NF trails. No cell or WiFi but it comes in as you drive down the road. Unplug and enjoy!

Weekend Trip to Benton's on the Baileys

We really enjoyed our stay! The land was beautiful, the spot was private, and we liked having the restrooms down the hill. The two bathrooms were clean and there were showers/towels provided and heaters on, we were surprised at how nice they were. Keith was friendly and carried our stuff up the hill in an ATV even though we had been expecting to do it ourself. The wood is a great deal for $5 and we had a ton of firewood including the deadwood on the ground. We brought our two dogs and it was nice being able to let them run around at the campsite, that was one of the reasons we didn't stay at a standard campground. This place is not too far away from the Hocking Hills trails (about 40 min), and next time we will have to check out the Bailey's trails as they are so convenient to this spot. We didn't have an issues with bugs or wildlife.
