Deming, WA · 1 site · Tent, RVBe among the first to hang out in a quiet corner of a 35-acre forest in Van Zandt, a “blink-and-you’ll miss it” town along the picturesque Highway 9. This area is a common shortcut for people coming from Seattle or other points South on their way to Mt Baker.
The campsite at the moment is pretty basic. There’s a place for a car, van or small RV, a fire pit, and a level place to pitch a tent. A basic outhouse is in the works, but it’s not there yet. The real joy is the tall trees, the distant sound of a train, the birds and other critters, and so much green it will make your eyes hurt. There are also a few trails to explore, and nice neighbors to meet.
The South Fork of the Nooksack River is 5 minutes away. It’s a great place to cool off on a hot Summer day. Mt. Baker is 45 minutes to the East. Bellingham, with a pretty solid nightlife, is 20 minutes West. Vancouver and Seattle are 90 minutes away, and there are dozens of cool towns, parks and hiking spots in every direction.
This campsite is a great place for a small fire and quiet conversation (not a rager around a huge bonfire). It’s a safe harbor, a weigh station, a jumping off point, and a nature spectacle.
